PERSONALITY: [break][break]

Even with all of the struggles that's followed his life, Ryujin's does his best to remain positive in life. Even before coming to Hoenn, the man is an affable and warm person to everyone he comes across. He can come off as stoic to some on a first glance but is pretty quick to show his true colors. These two traits have allowed him to become a successful detective and negotiator while in Kanto before he resigned from the force. Ryujin is softspoken and enjoys getting to know people and new perspectives, but isn't afraid to show his more authoritarian side if pushed too far. He still believes in justice and upholds himself to a higher degree than most, seeing himself as somebody that should be setting an example. [break][break]

He isn't without faults though. His honorable behavior can come back to bite him as he's more willing to lower his defenses down for some people if the story is sad enough. Ryujin also is very vindictive. If you've ever done something against him, he's going to make you remember it for the rest of the foreseeable future. He also has a perfectionist nature, loudly complaining about drinks or food that is made by his hands or another pair. [break][break]

Ryujin was born to a single mother in the Kanto region, his father having left before he was born. As the oldest child of four, he worked alongside his mother as soon as he was able to help with chores and bringing in enough income for the house. He did a lot of odd jobs while his mother would work day and night to afford a roof over their heads and food to eat. Seeing her family's troubles, Ryujin's ant pulled him and his mother into her home as he quickly became the older cousin to several younger kids. While he did take up mantle as their caregiver while the adults worked away, he normally would come home to cook dinner, help them with home work, do his own and sleep late into the night. He developed his love for coffee by age 9 because of this and some partial bits of dealing with insomnia. [break][break]

While he was a part of the youth roaming around, he found himself entranced in the duties of police offers with what little free time he had. Ryujin was friendly to the many officers around Kanto and would look up to them as sort of role models. So much so that he was sure that he wanted to serve alongside the numerous others to protect Kanto when he was of age. He'd study his red little head off while trying to get the best grades he could with the living conditions he was in. After several years went by, he was finally of age to enter basic training alongside the other recruits for the Kanto regional forces in his hometown of Cerulean City. There, Ryu quickly made a name for himself and had been gaining attention for quite some time. By the time he had gotten through it all half a year later, the boy had been certain that he'd be on the right path in life. He was trained in highway supervision to begin, but his affable nature made him the perfect candidate to be on track for a detective role had it not been for his age. He was put under supervision to shadow different officers, each finding quick use for his silver tongue. [break][break]

Just two years after he had joined the Kanto police, tragedy had reared its ugly head. The rumors of a Rocket uprising in Kanto had been verified and an all out massive takeover was imminent. Ryujin dropped everything to race home to his family but was held back by duty. Uncertain of what to do, family or duty mattered, he made the swift decision to call home and help them get to safety before going into overtime and helping others get to safety. This work ensured that countless people were taken to safety but from the reports he heard over the radio, the League forces were not faring well. They were being forced back and out of their region. While some few were slowly trying to gather up resources for a retreat, Ryujin was a part of the few that could make it out in time to see his homeland under the rule of Team Rocket. [break][break]

After reaching the shores of Hoenn, he was quick to try and locate his family in some hope that they could have managed to get out of Kanto in time, but found his search ended with no answers. Stricken with guilt and trauma, Ryujin left the Kanto police and would wander from city to city. During this stint, he worked several jobs across the busier cities. His stint as a bartender was the longest as his taste led him to experimenting and trying new sorts of blends and recipes alongside Hoenn naturals. While he did drink on his off time, it was rare to see him anything past a mellow buzz. It took some time before he could feel a sense of urgency, as his altruistic nature had returned in full hearing some of the stories of people in need. Dusting himself off from half a decade of pity, Ryujin set forth to find some sense of peace from his failure in Kanto. [break][break]

FUN FACTS: [break][break]

• Ryujin had a Dodrio, a Kingler, and a Primape as a part of his team, but were all wounded heavily as they took part in defending Kanto from Rocket. Ryujin has since found homes for the three of them, wishing for them to have a more peaceful life. Only his Arcanine and Fearow stayed with him. [break][break]

• He developed PTSD from Kanto's takeover and becomes uncomfortable around loud noises and sudden surprises. During these episodes, he tends to shut down and become unresponsive for a second or so. [break][break]
