It was a pretty common response for Ryuji. And to be honest, it was one he heard plenty of times. Despite everything he had gone through at Kanto, the majority of people had just not believed he had been a police officer at times, having him to show an I.D. card that he had kept on him since leaving his home just to show he wasn't trying for a case of stolen valor. "I joined as soon as I could back home. It was something I wanted to do since...I guess ever."

He smirked, watching as Calci would play rough with a poor Bramblin before being caught and causing mischief. Mint went over how the two of them had met on the beach with a well timed snack bag being sensed by an playful Eevee. Ryuji cracked a smile at imagining the two of them meeting that way. He crossed his arms at Calci toying with Ace. The Arcanine looked at his master as Ryuji gave a nod, allowing the canine to show a bit more playfulness. His tail waved back and forth as the fire type shook his rear and took off alongside Vaporeon to sit and wait for Mint to throw him a snack. A little Gothita, obviously that had been spooked by the noise had wandered out of the bushes nearby. Ryuji would toss the pokeball out at the peeking Pokémon before Mint went to ask him about what he had been up to post police officer stuff.

"I've been wandering to be honest. I came here and worked as a bartender for a bit, then a host, and now I'm a private eye's assistant and babysitter at times." Ryuji answered, coming to reach and ruffle the head of his Arcanine. "It's a bit of a hassle at times, but I'm happy."

He waves at a small Phantum, redeyes glowing from some bushes as it peaks out before the happy barking from both dogs scared it off. "Hehe, back out of retirement aren't you?" Mint teased as he looked over at the red head.

Out of all those job titles, only one really draws his attention. "Babysitter? For kids, or pokemon?" he asked. He had done a bit of that at some point. Working in a pokemon daycare was essentially babysitting. "Do you travel or just Lillycove for the babysitting?" he added before snorting as he put away the treats and let Calici roll over as he finished eating his snacks. He gave a tentative pat to Ace before looking back at his companion. "Sorry, you're just a bit too old for what I'd picture a babysitter as."
