Since birth, you're used to high expectations of making something worthwhile in your life. Twins. Your mother and father gave birth to twins. Perhaps two had been a bit too much for them, they loved your older twin Noel. He was perfect in every sense of the word. Because of his own perfections, they expected it of you. (Poor boy, you didn't really have much of a life outside of the academia, did you?) Despite how much you wanted to be free, you knew your best route was to play the part. It's all you could do to make them happy.
[break][break] Did it hurt your parents to see their star child leave? Of course, but they didn't know where he was going or what he planned to do. To you all, you simply knew he was leaving for Kanto. (After its razing, he gave you all a call to reassure you that he was fine. A shame, honestly.) Your parents grieved the fact their dear Noel wasn't around, but what of you? What of Leon? You were no more than a shadow to them, simply their other child that despite your attempts, paled in comparison to the accomplishments of your brother.
[break][break] But you figure if they're so focused on missing their star child, they'll hardly know you're gone. That's when you move to Hoenn for a fresh start, for something new and exciting. And you manage to find what makes you feel whole in enlisting as a ranger. Helping others has always been your strong suit, yet the gratitude you receive in your work feels so foreign. It feels unnecessary for them to appreciate the work you do: it's just work, after all. But you grow to love it. You love the people. But most of all, you love the partners that guide you through the excessive work.
[break][break] Perhaps life never really takes the path one would expect. You certainly never expected yourself to be a burn out mess stuck mourning a loss you fully contribute to yourself. Once a former Ranger who specialized in handling natural disasters, you carried yourself with a sense of grace, humility, and selflessness that allowed for an exceptional ranger candidate. In a sense, you had your life set out in front of you, to be the ideal hero that you only dreamt of being as a child.
[break][break] You lost your original partner pokemon in the midst of civilian evacuation. Ironic it was by the hands of the twin you detested the most. (Rest assured, he got his comeuppance when sliced in twain by Palkia itself.) Your Vaporeon had been the ideal search and rescue partner, and you were quite proud of it. The loss unfortunately left you a shell of your former self, stepping down from your work as a ranger. Even though you've had some time to heal your physical injuries, your mental suffering has left you hollow.
[break][break] Perhaps part of you yearns to return to your life as a Ranger, but you settle. You know you don't have the mental fortitude to protect others, so you focus on the smaller picture and hire yourself out to those who might need a bodyguard. Government officials, celebrities, even folks who simply just think they need the extra protection.
