Straightforward as he may be, the chains of articulation shackled him down from expressing the turmoil that'd brewed these long lonely days. For someone who spent most of his adult life alone, lurking among the shadows, devoid of any personal relationships, to finally feel the warmth of another was a luxury that'd felt worse when forcibly stripped away.

"August keeps yelling at me," he murmured, words curling into a silent hush. Humor tickled its ends. "he tries to force me out of the house— tells me to go and see you already."

and as she settles a little further into comfortability, her body seeks the warmth of his. she ends up leaning into him, shoulder meeting his bicep.

He slumped his shoulders, head rolling forward until it loosely hung between them.

"I didn't know."

A confession that naturally spoke of Felix's feelings on most topics. Oblivious to the world and its intricate, picking out the small hints of detail was a task he hadn't yet mastered. Sometimes it felt like he never would.

Felix welcomed the wave of warmth that washed over him as her body nestled into his. It felt natural, her weight pressing back into his bicep, adding a tidbit of resistance with every rise and fall of his breath.

"I'm sorry, too."

her smile is warm despite the tentative nature of the expression. she still feels slightly awkward, as if she’s not quite certain if their relationship is still a minefield or if the time for detonation has passed.

”i was unfair to you.”

there’s no denial. only acceptance.

and with it, a budding fear.

”are we okay?”

Where Illeana remained tentative Felix emerged with certainty.

His answer came without hesitation or any real thought. It was instinctual by nature, as if the words had already been resting on the tip of his tongue far before she had even beckoned the question.

"Of course we're okay."

Then silence fell. It broke up his words like a deeply etched ravine.

"I love you, illie. Nothing can change that."

it smooths worry from her body, injects warmth and comfort into the veins.

"i love you too."

and she does.

even with differences in allegiances, she's in too deep to turn back now. he's successfully infiltrated her heart, planting roots and they grow with each passing day.

she snuggles a little closer, feeling contentment for the first time in weeks. and quietly, her voice returns as a whisper.

"i was worried you would leave."

she was terrified, really, that she had pushed him past the breaking point, that weeks of silence would turn into months and months into years.

Turning, his hand reached for the carve of her cheek, thumb gingerly caressing her soft skin. Looking down at her, his gaze bled with the warmth he'd been craving to envelope her in. The same warmth that was hers and hers alone.

"I would never leave you."

Not now, not ever.

This promise would be the easiest decision of his life.

Slowly, his hand slid down to her chin, tilting upward until the heat of his breath would tickle her cheeks. So close, he hovered there for a second. From the shine of her eyes to the pinch of color on her cheeks, Felix greedily drank everything in, burning the details of her essence into the back of his brain.

Forever engraved. Forever apart of him.

"I promise."

He leaned in to kiss her.
