From the warning itself it should become very obvious what kind of upbringing Naia had, however to fully understand her family dynamic which would bring such traumatic events to occur one would need to know about her Mother, Shuna Kayode.

Having recently moved from her hometown to Hoenn, Shuna Kayode wanted to prove to herself and her family that she was far more capable then they ever gave her credit for. What started off with a simple Marketing company, she managed to grow it and flourish into an extremely successful business. Of course, she was never above using underhanded tactics to getting what she wanted, it was probably why she felt so strongly about Rocket in the first place, and decided to put her hand into investing their endeavours as an honorary supporter.

That's when Naia came into the picture, or at least the idea of having a child to carry on her business. Shuna was meticulous in who she ended up picking to be her partner, choosing a successful surgeon who could bring both his brains and money into her family. A pleasant surprise, when she found that he too was more than willing to support Rocket as being a "back alley" doctor for those who needed medical attention in Rocket.

Almost everything was perfect in her life, but she couldn't have anticipated her daughter not living up to her exceedingly high expectations.

The pressure started early, rather than going into school like normal children all of Naia's early education was done at home under the iron fist of her mother. She expected her child to be a genius, and whenever Naia disappointed her mother she'd instantly take it out on her in what she called "punishments". It wasn't uncommon for Naia to be locked in her room without access of dinner till she was able to complete her homework, whenever she acted out as any child does she was instantly reprimanded with more physical methods.

Once she was finally freed from being home-schooled her mother enrolled her into an prep school, the crushing expectations and sheer work she needed to take care of dismantled any dream of possibility having a social life at such an institute. It was probably then when she begun to developed a sleep disorder from the sheer amount of nights she spent mostly studying and abusing caffeine to push through days. Only once did Naia try to fight back against her parents, attempting to run away but from how quickly she was brought back did it solidify a core belief that no matter what, she'd never be able to fight her mother.

So she stopped trying.

Nothing changed after she accepted her chains, sleep only got harder and more elusive, the work and pressure only grew. In case she needed to take over for both her mother's and father's line of work, Naia was placed into 4 years of undergraduate studies and then another 4 years of medical school all the while her mother would bombarded any free time she'd possibly have to teach her the ins and out of how to run her company. Now that she'd finally out of schooling, barely graduating with all this mental exhaustion; it's how her turn to impress her parents and show her worth.

But when your whole life has been written for you, how does one act when there is no more script?

MOTIVATIONS

I wonder.. what it's like to be truly happy?

If someone were to ask her what happiness was, she'd just tell you what she observed in life. Two couples smiling hand in hand while they experience their first snowfall together. A child successfully convincing their parents to buy them that snack or toy they really wanted. The fleeting smile of receiving a stranger sitting across the bus after receiving a text.

Everything she has seen had been happiness shared with another, but as someone who doesn't have anyone.. How is she expected to ever get that illusive feeling. Now that she had been given free reign to make some decisions herself she hoped maybe she could find something in life that could give her that spark like others.

Can I ever make them happy?

This motivation can be a bit misleading, in truth she never wanted to make her parents happy but instead she just wants them to loosen their hold on her leash. She truly believes that if she proves herself enough then her parents would no longer pressure her and she'd finally be free from all the suffering she has to endure.

While Naia is logically aware she could never end up being the golden standard her parents want her to be, she can however do her best to at least met half way. And in a world where you can gain fame and protection through the work of Pokémon, Naia's first goal is to make it that she is a fordable foe and maybe then, she could possibly have a foothold her mother couldn't manage in Hoenn.

What's a better Pokémon, than to most is impossible even achieve...

I don't have to be alone.. right?

A very small but easily fulfilled wish, with Naia's unfortunate upbringing, she never had any human friends.
--More like she never had the chance.
With the strong start of being home schooled straight into a prep school and then into post secondary school, she never felt like she had the time or energy to create those ever important connections. Perhaps it isn't too late for her to try and fix it now, maybe her new found freedom could give her enough time to gain herself a friend or two.. or something more.

No Rest for the Wicked

Naia has severe insomnia issues and the majority of her time and energy on her free time is to seek out stimuli to keep herself awake. That would be to find new games to keep herself distracted, improving her headphones and music selection or her most favourite method--

--Plenty of caffeine.

She can be found frequently at cafe's both to indulge on sweets, or to drink her seven cup of coffee that day, however on off days she may end up finding herself falling asleep in random public spaces. As much as she tries to keep herself up, sometimes it is for the best for her to get some rest once in a while. It can make for some nice and wholesome or even goofy encounters.

Trainer by Every Sense

The expectations that were placed on Naia are far too much for one person to fully accomplish, but despite knowing that she still does her best to full in her effort to fulfil her parent's wishes. One of those desires is for her to make connections and positions in life which can be unshakeable, recognizable, and powerful and in the world of Pokémon, Naia truly believes she could somehow impress her parents by become a competent trainer.

That or managing to catch a legendary Pokémon.

Of course the second option is just but a childish dream, and the first one is a bit more feasible; thus having a trainer to help her improve herself in battle, or even gathering the right Pokémon to make a team would be beneficial for one of her goals. This teacher in a sense can be from either League or Rocket, however in the end her new talents will be put towards Rocket. But that could be cool plots in itself.

An Accomplice

Her mother while not the biggest supporter that Rocket has, is someone who does put a decent amount of time and money into their organization, and as such, expects her daughter to uphold that relationship in the future. This sort of plot hook it mainly geared towards those in Rocket, but it would be nice if she could join different minor missions or help them out in certain ways. Even if they only at the time regard her as a wallet.

This could even be in the form in attempts to full on recruitment as currently she and her mother are mainly just supporters and funders. Or even just socializing and making friends.

X's Daughter

This can be taken in two ways; the first being Shuna's Daughter. There can be plot points with people wanting to get in touch with her mother, be it to find weaknesses, gain allies, or perhaps discussing different business possibilities. Either way Naia is a good middle ground to go through as she seems to be a much lower bar in terms of difficulty, especially if someone already had an unpleasant experience with her steadfast and overbearing mother.

The second way would be known as Elias's Daughter, the Kayode's back alley doctor. His role in the family while a physically active is far more passive when it comes to influence in comparison to her mother. Naia is known to being an assistant to her father's procedures during and after her medical school and is even used to deliver medication between her commutes. Those who have been a patient most likely have interacted with Naia in some way and it could lead to new avenues.

RELATIONSHIPS

FRIENDSHIPS

Naia can easily be summed up as emotionally distant.

Naia being raised in that very environment did significant emotional and psychological strain on her entire being. The very choices and actions she made were merely to keep herself going under such circumstances, and little to no thought was ever put into her own wellbeing or happiness. As such for the entirety of her schooling, she didn't feel the need to reach out to others and only exacerbate her situation even further thus leaving her alone. Every interaction she made sure to emotionally distance herself to both protect herself and the other people, and even now with a slimmer of a desire to make more connections, she finds it hard to close that gap.

Human interaction makes her uncomfortable, but it's not unwanted. She's the type to be far more comfortable being an onlooker and reacting to someone rather than being the instigator. Her meek and submissive demeanour makes her far more likely to withstand a huge number of people and personalities. However the notion of friendship or even close friends is far too foreign of a concept to her to fully conceptionalize, which can be very disappointing in those that want to put in the effort...

ROMANCE

This to Naia currently is nothing but a fantasy. Not only is it extremely difficult to emotionally connect to people on a friendship level, she had never once had ever felt the inkling of romance to any other person in her lifetime. This stems down to both physically and emotionally, and became something that Naia has grown to accept with herself, but even with such a pessimistic perspective on such a thing, she still holds the idea of marriage as something magically and special. Perhaps being the only glimmer of childish hope she managed to keep alive, she always assumed that there is perhaps a special person for her out there. One that maybe if she met she'd know to her very core, but it comes down to.. would she want to put someone in her situation?

Maybe, if she ever got into this situation, she wouldn't be able to bring herself to embrace such feelings for their sake.

"Mother Knows Best" Plot Hook

Thus bringing us to a very interesting plot point. Naia's parents wouldn't want her to be without child in the future and definitely would want to use their daughter as a means to make further connections and business deals. It isn't uncommon that as Naia gets older her parents start to bring up blind dates for her to attended all with the prospects of potentially marrying such person.

This can cause a lot of fun plot ideas. There could be the possible blossom of an actual relationship, or even them working together to get their parents off their backs. It could even end up being a completely sour date, or the potential for a new blossoming friendship. There are many ways this can go, and that's the fun of it.
