What she had not expected was Reiner suddenly balking and Mesprit beginning to trill at her - Perhaps angered, perhaps confused or even disturbed as they suddenly find a tidal wave of pink mist suddenly crashing over them.[break][break]

"W-"[break][break]

She's seen this before. There's no use teleporting or attempting to call someone, especially when she's unsure whether the things she might see will be figments of her imagination or reality. And in either case, Mesprit is far too aggravated by the leaking of the Interdream Zone into their Hoenn. They can't just leave without attempting to rectify whatever seems to be happening, right?[break][break]

"Just... stay hidden." Her voice is a murmur, but just enough for the pixie to heed her words. And with that, Mesprit begrudgingly zips back into her backpack, peeking out just a little to keep an eye on their surroundings. "If this mist causes the manifestation of thoughts, do you think we'll find a clue on Azelf?"[break][break]

"Brii."[break][break]

Clearly unamused but willing to let her do as she wishes, Mesprit merely takes a backseat on this expedition. And Reiner grunts, shaking out his mane to numb his nerves. There's nothing left to it, the only thing left to do is trust their gut instincts and keep moving.

Exploring things just for fun was something she rarely got to do. But today was one of those days.

Shoal Cave wasn't exactly one of those places trainers flocked to, perhaps because of the Pokémon that called it their home. Memories of her little visit alongside Laurence Anderson are still very much present in her mind.

Still, clad rather warmly but casual for the occasion, she trudged along accompanied by a soft furred Minccino that sniffed at every possible thing that smelled interesting, even that pink mist that suddenly appeared.

“Morrigan, get away from that. It might be toxic.” Elinor spoke.

The Minccino perked its ears not only to listen to its trainer, but to something else from within the mist?

"We... we'll make it out, right?" She falters, "We... I don't wanna be stuck here."[break][break]

Her grip on Reiner's mane tightens just that bit, but his low growl warns her to pull herself together. Even Mesprit seems to latch onto her fragile state, gently tapping at her shoulder and conveying her thoughts through bursts of emotions. Curiosity, wariness: A typical mix that arises from the pixie sensing the presence of another. The only question is: Are they friendly?[break][break]

"Hello? I- is anyone there?"[break][break]

Whoever it is that she's calling out to, even if they're just a figment of her imagination, it'd probably be a thousand times better for her to know what's out there than wander around with that nagging fear at the back of her mind.[break][break]

"I- if you're out there, please help! I'm... a little lost..."

The Minccino began to gesture toward the mist as it grew large and larger.

“Is someone in there?”

The Minccino nodded.

Then Elinor heard the voice. A familiar voice, though it sounded surprisingly far away. She couldn’t believe it. It would be so unlikely that it seemed almost impossible.

But if someone was in danger, Elinor had a duty to go and save them, be it because of her Ranger status or position as Council member, she would throw herself in danger either way. She bent down letting the Minccino climb into her shoulder before taking on a mask, offering herself what little protection she could from the pink mist before she jumped headfirst into it.

As shadows dance and curl around her feet, she knows that she'll see things if she lets her mind wander. And yet, she can't help but jump when she hears voices echoing around her - The low hum of lightning that slowly grows louder with every second, that angered buzz of wings...[break][break]

"N- no please... Not again."[break][break]

Reiner flinches as she takes a nervous step backwards, his tail curling around her arm as he steps in front of her. But the footsteps grow closer and closer, and in those final moments before something might leap out at them, she closes her eyes, crouching down as she tries to cover her head.[break][break]

"Please don't hurt me!"

The whimpering voice of Eris was clear. Elinor tried to follow it as best she could, and it grew clearer with each passing step.

Unfortunately she couldn’t help but think the worst as she came closer. She had heard what Josh had done to her. And she had heard nothing since.

What if this is the Ghost of Eris?

While the notion was silly, the idea took root perhaps enough for even the dream-mist to react to.

“Eris, Eris?! It’s me, Elinor. I am not here to hurt you.”

Instead, it's a painfully familiar face that she struggles to make out through her blurry vision. She tries her best to brush the tears away, burying her face in her sleeves as she struggles to take a deep breath.[break][break]

"I don't wanna go back there, Miss Elinor..." She murmurs, not even trying to discern whether she speaks to a real person or something just made out of her imagination. "It hurt a lot... I felt really cold..." Her voice cracks a little as she tries to meet the gaze of the councilwoman. "A- and now I'm kinda lost here? And I can't go home? Everything really, really sucks..."

She had hoped it had all been a part of her imagination. But as the little figure came into view, her hopes were dashed as she stood before Eris, crying.

It felt like a dagger had been jabbed right into her heart and then tugged around.

Before she could even say a single word, Eris had already spilled three sentences. Dumbfounded for a moment Elinor could do naught but pull down her mask and say “Hey, hey it’s alright. I am here. Everything is going to be alright.” as she extends her arms offering Eris a hug.

The hug was accepted.

And yet when she felt the cold skin, she felt a sense of worry, and perhaps even an urgency to bring the girl warmth.

But then the cry dragged along words that stabbed her in the heart, just like that day when Josh had revealed what had happened.

“I was not, I promise you. I want to help.” Elinor said. As she looked down at the girl with painful empathy in her eyes.

“I already know what happened. Trust me when I say, I did what I could to make sure he was punished as much as possible.”

And that was the truth, but Josh didn’t need to know that, for she had told him something else entirely.

She does her best to hold back her tears, because she knows that as soon as she allows herself to crack, she won't be able to stop herself. Instead, her ragged sentences are punctuated with sniffles, her tears brushed away so quickly that the fabric burns at her skin.[break][break]

"I asked him if he could call another ranger... and he said he didn't want to. And he tried to taze me- And I thought he was gonna kill me. A- and then he actually-"[break][break]

The atmosphere grows dense with pressure, a faint golden glint peeking from the endless pink fog. A long, slender hand reaches to pat Eris' head, bejewelled twin tails affectionately curling around her arm.[break][break]

"Mes... make it go away..."[break][break]

That crippling sensation of being snuck up on, that itch that slowly infests her wound. Mesprit merely shakes her head and answers with a sad trill.[break][break]

"I only fought back because I had to. I promise..."

Her pleading words were like a dull razor’s edge dragged along bare skin. While surely it was nothing compared to the pain and fear Eris had felt.

A dull sensation began to spread in her body, like phantom pains shooting through her as pressure grew. She wasn’t certain this was her own doing. But whether or not it was, the pain was real enough.

A faint golden glint catches Elinor’s eyes, and she looks toward it, seeing the tail and the vague form of Mesprit alongside hearing its sad trill.

Her heart began to pump, her body began to grow tense, as memories flooded back. She had seen Mesprit before. It had been there on THAT day.

Some part of her wanted to latch on to the sorrow and powerlessness that she felt from back then. But she pushed it away, chained it down as she focused on Eris. She would not succumb like Josh had.

The past was in the past, she could not change it.

And so instead she used all of her willpower to let soothing words leave her mouth. “I know, Eris. I do not blame you for protecting yourself.”

If Eris hadn't already emotionally grabbed her by the heart and started squeezing, she certainly was doing it now.

"Eris, listen to me. You did not do anything wrong. He attacked you." Certainty in her words even if they were biased.

But as punishment became the topic, she felt hesitation move in her soul as much as Eris clawed at her clothes. Hesitation born of agreement. She did not think he had been punished enough.

"If I was the sole judge, it would have been different. He would have been punished to the full extent of the law. But I am not, and unfortunately others thought a lesser punishment was enough." She gritted her teeth at the mere thought.

"Eris, i know it's not enough, please believe me when i say that. But it is what it is. And we have to move on…" she paused "And I would like to help with that. If you will let me"
