Colton couldn’t help but laugh as he watched the Gengar float away. It almost resembled a Gastly with how it’s fur was standing on end from the electricity still sparking off of its body. Normally, he would have felt bad for the Pokémon, but clearly it’s own wasn’t too concerned, so he figured it would end up alright in the long run. He turned his attention back to Arti as she bent over to inspect the washing machine’s interior, smiling again as his Rotom was very clearly still uncomfortable with this development.

”I couldn’t say, honestly. Whenever I got it, Arti pretty much hopped right in and only leaves when we’re working on stuff,” he answered, the Rotom’s look of concern turning to annoyance at the mere mention of being used to wash clothes. ”The idea’s never even come up before but something tells me it wouldn’t like it very much.”

Arti stuck it’s tongue out at the woman, using his pipe to shoo her away lest she start pouring detergent inside. He made a series of indignant buzzing noises that made Colton laugh again until she pointed out his arm. He glanced down at the limp limb, but only gave a shrug with his one good shoulder. ”I think I can manage,” he said before pointing at the Gengar still floating away. ”I’d be more worried about my Pokémon floating off to become east prey for the creatures that prowl around here.”

[attr="class","samknoxw"]Cyg frowns a bit at that. She reaches out to give the Washtom a gentle pat and then decides against it, pulling her hand back with an apologetic frown. “Fair ‘nuff. I was just curious.”

She stands up with a huffed laugh. “Yeah, I can see they have an independent streak. Sorry, I’m used to Banana Phone, and they're just a big idiot.”

The kid declines her offer of help (which is a shame because she really does enjoy popping joints back into socket. It’s so satisfying) and Cyg turns to look at Lisbet, floating off into the nether. “Oh, shit. Zen!”

The Dusknoir appeared in a blink of light, single eye narrowed in a permanent scowl.

“Help a sister out?” Cyg aksed, jerking her thumb in Lisbet’s direction.

The phantom rolled her eye in most dramatic fashion, then faded from view to begin the rescuing process.

“So I guess there’s no chance of converting you to the cause?” Cyg asked, though the pseudo-disappointed huffiness suggested This Was A Joke.

Despite the situation, Colton couldn’t help but feel bad at her response. She had expressed such excitement at seeing Arti and the Rotom was being unnecessarily rude over something harmless. He knocked Arti on the top of its washing machine. ”Don’t be mean,” he said. It rubbed the top of its head with the tube extending from the back of the washing machine, rolling its eyes.

He laughed again as he watched the almost slapstick routine playing out in front of him. At least, the Gengar wouldn’t become Naganadel food now. The sympathy felt strangely placed, considering they had been fighting each other only moments before and said Gengar had fried his Bronzong pretty badly.

Colton looked back towards her at her question, thinking for a moment before shrugging his good shoulder again. ”Unfortunately, no. And I guess the same goes for you?” he asked, though his question was decidedly less of a joke. She was nice, which he didn’t expect, especially considering he had attacked her first, and he didn’t want to risk having to fight her again in the future.

She thinks of everything Team Rocket was tearing down around them and wonders distantly if it was a good trade off for resources and little regulation.

“But I don’t think anyone is meant to stay in Rocket forever. They’re just a means to an end.” She points a finger at him, turning stern. “But be careful. They may preach sunshine and rainbows, but the League will chew you up and spit you out just as fast.”

People like GABRIEL BLACK and possibly also FERNANDO SILPH -- people hiding behind their golden banners and Dahlia and the law.

She frowns a bit, nose crinkling. "Wish we hadn'ta been at each other's throats earlier 'cuz I could've just given you my business card. But. Secret identities, and all that."

Colton studied her face as she spoke, almost trying to look for any lies in what she said. But, he couldn't really deny the validity to her statements. Just because one was a "good" guy, that didn't exactly make them good people. A means to an end, as she had said.

"I won't let myself be manipulated. All I want to do is help people, to try and do something instead of sit by and watch this all play out," he said, resolve filling his face. "I'll do my best, even against things that come from the inside."

Colton didn't really know why he'd promised something like this to a Rocket, but her kindness had seemed genuine. She could have easily steamrolled him and left him to lick his wounds alone, but instead, they talked, coming to some kind of understanding, all born from a little Rotom.

"Maybe I can help you with what problems you've got? I'm not asking you to join the League, but you could get away from Rocket," he said. "You don't deserve to go down with them should things end up that way..."

Rocket would do to him like it was trying to do to Isaac Merlo, turn him inside out and putrefied and raw; but the League would tie him to the tires and run him down just as easily as you could say ‘tax breaks’.

“Maybe some day. But for now I need more funds and fewer questions.” She grinned at him, relishing in the humor of you don’t deserve to go down with them. “You don’t know me. Maybe I’m a horrible person. A practical puppy-kicker.”

By now Zen had collected Lisbet and floated back to them. She held the Gengar under one arm as one does a ladder, or a painting, or any other sort of ungainly, annoying object. She glared at her trainer with her perpetual half-lidded, unimpressed expression.

“Well, I gotta get to going down with this ship. You get that shoulder looked at— don’t let it go too long or it’ll hurt way fuckin’ worse when they get around to popping it back in.” She rolled Lisbet’s Pokeball in her hand to recall the Gengar and see about getting her some anti-paralytics on board.

“If you’re ever in trouble, or want to talk shop, you can go to Petalburg and ask around for the Swan. Don’t die out here, kid.”

Colton's one good shoulder lifted in a chuckle as she downplayed his compliment. "You stopped beating up on me to gush over my Rotom. And then didn't start beating up on me again after I dropped my guard<" he said. "Maybe it's naive, but that doesn't really strike me as 'cold, ruthless killer,' you know?"

Colton decided to not ask about her reasons for staying with Rocket. It was likely a pointless effort to try and pry it out of her, unless he really tried to play up the "lost, hurt puppy" vibe he was assuming she picked up from him. He looked down at his shoulder again, nodding at her advice. "Will do. I'll do my best to go looking for fights where someone knocks it back into place while beating my face in."

Petalburg. The Swan. It certainly wasn't a lot of identifying information, but Colton found himself mentally noting all the same. "I'll do my best not to. Maybe we can meet under better circumstances next time," he said. "I'd hate to be enemies with someone who likes Rotom as much as I do."
