"I hate you people so much."[break][break]

Where in his job description had "pushing a cart full of explosives and other assorted weaponry across an ocean beyond the stars" been written? Well, nowhere, seeing as criminal organisations didn't tend to advertise themselves on job listings. But still! Between fighting runaways, fighting idols, fighting some other guy, and frankly an uncomfortable amount of running around, this was quickly becoming Alba's least favourite part of this hellish day. The stupid thing was heavy, and he was already drenched with sweat, and Porygon's lack of arms limited its cart-pushing ability, and the three other grunts accompanying him had already run off in pursuit of some League trainers…[break][break]

No, no, this was fine. It was better for him to be alone with his thoughts, actually. Alone with himself, and that creeping, cold feeling that something or someone was slowly gaining on him…

A feminine voice appears from right behind Alba's shoulder as two hands slap onto his back, incredible force pushing him forwards into the cart and spinning him around to face Xenon. Why was she here? What was she doing? None of that mattered, she had had a job and now she was abandoning it to help out this poor grunt whose friends all abandoned him. Nevermind the fact that she was also a grunt who had similarly abandoned her comrades back at the base camp, it had taken way too long to get assigned a mission, so now she was taking initiative by helping this poor sucker out with pushing a cart filled with hyper deadly explosives. Hey look at that, we figured out why she was here!
"Don't worry, I'm not the type to linger on the past. Just gimme a quick apology and I'll help you get to where you need to go, you're definitely too weak and wimpy to be pushing this kind of thing all by yourself."

It's like hitting a leaf that had been out in the rain. A leaf that let out a choked noise at the sound of someone manifesting right behind him and shoving him face-first into a pile of incredibly lethal items. Actually, though, it wasn't that uncomfortable once he'd twisted around to look at his attacker/saviour in the eye.[break][break]

Well, at least it was someone on his side. The only things Alba would be able to grab in time were grenades, and he wasn't super interested in decorating his body with shrapnel scars.[break][break]

"Sorry." Nice and quick, just like she'd asked. It was true, he was very weak, and very wimpy. So very wimpy, that maybe he'd be able to get away with fully relaxing into the pile of death and coasting along for the rest of this journey…[break][break]

Hm. Was that faint beeping coming from the bottom of the cart, or was he just starting to hallucinate about the comforts of the laboratories…?

"Mm, a bit weak, but fair is fair I suppose." Xenon mutters as she takes her hands off the nerd and moves alongside him instead, throwing her muscle into pushing the cart with Alba.

Of course he wasn't going to be able to get away just lazing about while she did all the work, a razor sharp eye sticks to him as she starts a conversation anew. "So nerd, what's your story huh? What wild series of events led you to joining a terrorist organization pushing a cart full of dangerous active explosives through an alternate dimension full of alien life that is almost certainly out to kill us right now?" The rampant cheer with which she laid out this sentence was honestly kind of disturbing, as if she were discussing something mundane like the weather or that last League battle with the Alakazam and the Crobat. "Cause me personally? I just didn't see any value in our current society, way too stagnant and boring for my liking. You gotta, SHAKE things up a little you know?" Maybe she shouldn't be shaking the cart full of explosives. But hey, gotta find some way to pass the time right?

The shaking was really starting to make those possibly-loaded rifle barrels dig into his stomach, and the look in her eye suggested she might actually just shoot him if he took too long a break, so that seems like his cue to get back to work! Standing up and putting way too much weight on a couple of buried landmines, Alba hops out of the cart, wiping some sweat from under his mask before (sort of) helping Xenon push.[break][break]

"Oh, interesting! It's good to have strong ideals like that. Always gives you something to work towards." He nodded a couple of times, as if he was agreeing with himself, and then: "I joined because I want money. The murderous alien lifeforms are a personal interest of mine, and the terrorism is… for fun, I guess? There are worse jobs out there. Like working in a Poké Mart."[break][break]

"So, shaking up society, huh. You got an idea of how you want the pieces to fall? Or is this more of a 'twisting the kaleidoscope and seeing what you get' sort of thing?"

She probably wasn't planning on just emptying the magazine of a rifle into his stomach if it came down to it. She preferred to do things a bit more personally lately, pulling out his stomach and feeding it to him sounded much more appealing at this exact moment. Thankfully for him though he was quick to get the hint and was back to pushing the cart with her, engaging in the conversation she had forced on him as they made their merry little way through the fallen ruins of a long dead world.

Xenon nods sagely, eyes closed as she throws a little extra weight into her step. "The second one. Making plans never works out for me, too stagnant, I don't like relying on things I made in the past." She responds, a slight sheen of sweat building on the back of her neck as the pushing continues. "Hey, I feel like you're not pushing your weight here. If you start slacking off I'm going to gut you."

"Oh, you're going to gut me… My mistake." The very real and serious threat against his life doesn't seem to be taken very real and seriously, or maybe Alba's just not very worried about things like potential danger. It does seem to do the job though, as he gets back into the swing of things, the strain of exertion moving back into his voice as he starts actually pushing the damn thing again.[break][break]

She was interesting, this Rocket girl he'd never met before. Maybe something about the criminal terrorist organisation drew in the crazy people— okay, it absolutely did that, but of the few co-workers he'd properly talked to, not many of them were the "burn all the world and see what grows from its ashes"-type.[break][break]

"I wonder… what kind of future you'll manage to bring." Even a wasteland would be worthy of study.

What seems like an eternity passes as the two push the cart in comfortable silence, though really it's something closer to twenty minutes of hard labor in the dark silence of the Ultra Deep Sea. But all good times must come to an end, and so it does as Xenon suddenly stops in place and grabs the cart to keep it from moving any further.

"Hey. You hear that?" She whispers as she looks over at Alba, creeping around to the front of the cart and looking out into the distance. They were approaching the beginning of a slope leading down it seems, and at the very bottom was... shit. The girl creeps back to her fellow grunt and grimaces. "League grunts at the bottom of the hill. Looks like they're coming this way. You want to risk your life over some bullets and bombs, or do you want to handle this the fast way?"

"Nah, I've risked my life way too many times already. Did you know the League has some guy who can control the earth?" It had only been a few hours since his brush with death, but the sweat and adrenaline of everything else had already begun to distance him from the primal fear of that event.[break][break]

"Go for it." He wasn't entirely sure what 'it' was, but had the distinct impression it was the kind of thing their bosses wouldn't like. Still, they didn't need to know the exact details, did they? Without any other witnesses, the truth would be theirs to stretch and retell as they liked.
