There was only one other person who called Nomi by that particular nickname. Isaac Merlo also happened to be someone Nomi had once looked at the same way she's looking at Parker now. He had been blissfully unaware of her feelings for him. It seemed he and Parker had that sort of oblivious tendency in common.[break][break]
Nomi didn't really feel that way about Isaac anymore, which was a relief. She liked ana fell, had never wanted to get between the other woman and Isaac. Did Parker have someone too? Was there some woman she would call later, to come over to her apartment and comfort her, kiss away her pain?[break][break]
The thought made Nomi's chest ache in the worst way, loneliness threatening to devour her whole.[break][break]
"I'm glad I was there, too," she murmured, meaning it. "I know you may not feel this way - understandably - but you're lucky it was Cillian. I'm something of an adopted little sister to him." She managed to smile a little. She felt the same way about him: the older brother she'd never had growing up.[break][break]
Nomi winced as Parker struggled forward, clearly laboring to walk correctly on her injured leg. The Head Scientist warred with herself over whether or not she should help Parker hobble out of the submarine. In the end, she settled for something that would at least keep any of the others from bothering the red-haired woman on her way out.[break][break]
Nomi released her Unown-A. "Alpha will accompany you as you leave," Nomi told Parker. "I know you don't like them," she quickly added, holding up her hands as if in surrender. The Unown freaked Parker out; but that was par for the course with most people. Rarely did Nomi interact with anyone comfortable with the strange symbol Pokémon like she was. "But people like Cillian will know you're with me if they see it. And others will just simply leave you alone because of it."[break][break]
As the Unown-A floated over to Parker, Nomi's small smile turned wry.[break][break]
"Besides, sometimes the bodyguard needs a little protection too."
