After today, things would settle back to normalcy, right? What were the chances that things would end up completely upend before they could even talk about this?[break][break]

All he knew was that it killed him. Cygne was brilliant. Cygne was dedicated. Cygne was kind and hilarious and so easy to relax around. He could spend all day talking about her merits and still have material left over to turn over in his dreams. But because she tried to stack herself up to some monolith version of him that she'd created, she'd never appreciate that.[break][break]

All he wanted was for her to love herself as completely and intensely as she deserved.[break][break]

"Please don't go," Isaac said before Ash could even finish his offer to leave. "I just . . . c'mon, man. I just got you back. You can't just disappear on us now."[break][break]

He could. But only if they disappeared as one. "Yeah," he agreed in the face of Cygne's request. "If you ask me, the less time we spend here, the better."[break][break]

And yet, perhaps at the exit way, Isaac might linger for half a minute longer. But that would be a story for another time.

That awkwardness doesn't just leave him when both Cygne and Isaac say it didn't interrupt them. Ash finds a hand on the back of his head, ruffling through the silver hair. He was so tired. So fucking tired.[break][break]

He hadn't slept much at all since his father. That moment burned into his mind, over and over again. The sheer magnitude of those deeds would never come to light, but he had leaned to the other side of the fence. Now? Now he just feels awkward. There's a part of him that hates to think it, and he's trying so hard not to think-[break][break]

That maybe he, himself, is the problem.[break][break]

It's not a good headspace to be in. But even with it, he has something important to do. He tries to smile. But there's a disruption in him that just can't accept this. The trail of blood sits behind him, the dead hang on his every word, on every action.[break][break]

"Yeah. Let's get out of here. I don't want to be here anymore."[break][break]

Maybe it was Ashley's fault?[break][break]

He hopes not. But as the trio leave, he makes the choice. He needs to distance himself. He needs to see if he's the problem. Not just to Cyg and Isaac, but to everyone outside that apartment space. He needed time to breathe, and think it over.[break][break]

"I'm not going anywhere."[break][break]
