Pivot, snap; lunge, snap. Snap, snap, snap— it was always a rigorous cycle as much as it was a repetitive one. As someone that personally knew the struggle around training oneself from the ground up, the process was ingrained in his mind. As someone that saw so many other people from the ground up, the process was ingrained in his mind. He was well aware about how people were bound to have their off days, and how shaking the rust off after being benched for so long would need a while, but—[break][break]

”Fer fuck’s sake, Ver— yer movin’ like a goddamn geriatric goon tries ta fuck...!”[break][break]

—he’d be even more of a liar if he ever claimed patience to be a strong suit of his.[break]
Specifically with people he knew beyond profession, obviously, but still.[break][break]

And so, in light of that, he found himself sighing a groaning sigh, his face scrunching as he shook his head. He began to shake one of the boxing pads from his hand as the remaining waved in dismissal, and then towards the small group of belongings that were set aside some time beforehand.[break][break]

”Just—... God. Take a minute,” he sighed once more, brows furrowed as he began walking towards those aforementioned belongings. ”I knew ya said ya had rust on ya, but man...”[break][break]

The sound of fist on pad fills the room, and Verity is aggressive as ever - though she'll admit that she could start hitting harder. It's difficult finding a good physical trainer nowadays, especially when most would tell her that she doesn't need one. It's why she's become so picky with who she trains with, after.. many complaints about bruising, and regarding her inability to hold back. [break][break]

It's why she's only a little bit disappointed when she's being yelled at to hit harder, or to move faster. Of course, you can't see it on that ever-changing expression on her face. Truly, the face of neutrality - maybe that's why she can take his impatience so well. It's why she doesn't take any offense when he comments about her rust - she knows plenty well that she's out of touch. Though she still goes on jogs, and still runs track and still does little obstacle courses, and exercises to keep herself fit, she's starting to slip, surely. [break][break]

Maybe the approaching summer heat is starting to make her lazy. [break][break]

She takes a moment after he lowers his hand, and waves. The words don't actually register until he begins to walk, and the albino woman perks up, slightly, and nods her head begore scurrying, hurriedly. "Ah.. right, okay." [break][break]

She's quick to drop onto the bench, pulling her water bottle out and take a much needed drink. when the water's down, and takes the metal to rest against her neck, cooling down the sweat that drips from her bangs. "... Sorry." blood red eyes shift to the side, her lips curled into the slightest frown. Her fingers open and close, forming a fist as she pensively stares. [break][break]

"... Maybe I haven't been exercising enough."

”Spare me the pitied front, Ver,” he groaned, clicking his tongue while sitting himself on the opposing side of the bench. He flicked the cap from his own bottle before tilting his head back. ”Just show me ya can do better when we start again.”[break][break]

His eyes lingered idly upon the bottle before him as he took a drink, though found themselves focusing on her and the expression on her face for longer than intended as he noted the downward tug of her lips. In turn, his brows furrowed further as his face scrunched a bit, and he inhaled deeply before breathing another sigh.[break][break]

”It helps ya stay in shape, yeah, but it ain’t the fuckin’ end all,” he murmured with little hesitance, shaking his head. ”Yer just way more outta practice than usual. Why?”[break][break]

Was she really that out of practice? [break][break]

Disappointment doesn't begin to describe it when she idly glares at her hand with a ruby sharp gaze. When she tries to tighten the fingers into a fist, a brow raises and the other furrows. It definitely looks like she's been getting weaker, even if she feels like there hasn't been much change. Verity is a little too caught up in her own thoughts to fully register the man's words, and when she realizes that she's doing it again, she immediately perks up. [break][break]

She's silent, for a little while. What should she say? That she hasn't been doing martial arts more lately? He'll end up asking why that's the case, and she'll probably end up thinking some more - not like she wasn't already, and she wasn't already wasting his time. Thinking about it, nothing much has changed, recently? [break][break]

"... Oh." She finally speaks, after her gaze fell to the ground in her thought. Red eyes raise to meet hues of amber, and she still speaks, unfazed by a man's impatience. "I went on a date, the other week." still, she speaks in a slightly flat tone "He said I was too strong, so.. I think I got self conscious." [break][break]

Honestly speaking, there were a number of things she could’ve told him, but no matter what, there would always be some amount of judgment. The silence was a bit foreboding, in his opinion, but it wasn’t like he could do too much to speed her response anymore than however long she was taking, so he eyed her for a while longer before looking back down at the bottle he held.[break][break]

He began to tilt his head back for another drink, though paused for a moment as the words met his ears.[break][break]

Staring at one of the many mirrors held upon the walls some ways away, he narrowed his eyes before a small smirk tugged upon his lips. His head moved back the small, slight amount needed in order to properly take a sip again.[break][break]

”Yer self conscious ‘bout bein’ strong.” The words left his lips with no shortage of judgment, the ego accompanying them almost implying a sense of shrewdness. ”And yer lettin’ yerself get down fer someone that’s that threatened by ya?”[break][break]

He scoffed, glaring towards her once more with a sidelong look.[break][break]

”Fuck ‘em. The fuck ya doin’, bein’ intimidated by some bloke that’s obviously intimidated by ya?”[break][break]

Weird, isn't it? [break][break]

Maybe to him, who sees the strength as a good thing. Unfortunately, Verity's too familiar with the golden "double standard", so she makes a little shrug with her lips in response to his scoff. The man is as judgmental as always and, if she weren't already accustomed to it, she would have actually started to feel bad for being worried. [break][break]

"Mhm." she hums, nodding her head. Her fingers tighten a bit around the bottle, before she unscrews it, ready to take another swing. "I told him to just.. work out and get stronger if he doesn't like it." water follows her words, and the chill is met with a hum, then a sigh when she lowers the bottle. "He looked at me funny. I wonder if I shouldn't have said that." [break][break]

With another hum, she puts the bottle to her side on the bench. Her knees are gently pressed together, and her elbows rest against the joints. "There was another guy who wanted to arm wrestle" she starts, eyes gazing up in the air as she recalls "... then he stopped calling me after I beat him."[break][break]

it's slight, but a pout comes to her face as she narrows her eyes. "... do guys really hate strong women..?"

His face scrunched instinctively as he thought on her response a bit more; a gesture that initially started as a means of thought, though almost immediately became fueled by nothing short of an annoyance. Maybe it was on her behalf, or maybe it was just because he was that annoyed at the thought of it all.[break][break]

…Probably both, honestly.[break][break]

”If a guy’s good, they ain’t gonna fuckin’ care ‘bout that shit. May even be rearin’ and ready to go, ‘cause of it,” he said, shrugging in a haphazard manner. ”If they ain’t, they ain’t worth ya fuckin’ time. Simple as that. Move the fuck on.”[break][break]

He's.. forward as ever. So quick to call them weak, so quick to call them pricks (he's right, but she has a bit more tact than to immediately say it). Still, it's a little amusing, even if the cost is his annoyance and irritation. [break][break]

"Maybe." though she says, with a slight smile "you have a point." and there's no point in dwelling on it, not when she already has enough on her plate. Still, it's a little funny, seeing how he's starting to get more annoyed than her. If you spoke to her a couple years back, maybe she would have been just as annoyed. Maybe she would have been as outspoken, or she would have clobbered someone when she was just as violent. [break][break]

".. so he should be fine with me being able to bench press him?" she tilts her head, slightly. though if she's going to be honest, she'd prefer to be the one being bench pressed.

”Look,” he started off, breathing a groaning sigh of exasperation, ”I can only repeat myself so many fuckin’ times, a’ight?”[break][break]

He capped his bottle before setting it aside once more, quickly slipping a hand into his pockets for enough of a moment to fish his phone out. While one hand remained upon it to begin scrolling, the other lifted to quickly ensure the earbud within it was still secure.[break][break]

”Yeah, he should be fine. Nah, he shouldn’t give a Rattata’s flyin’ fuckin ass ‘bout it,” he shot back, his brows and face furrowing and scrunching all the more while the words left his lips. He clicked his tongue a few times before seemingly settling on a song, tapping the button upon his device before tucking it away once more. ”Fine with bein’ bench pressed? Fuckin’ good fer ya— good fer both of ya.”[break][break]
He rested his hands onto his knees for a moment before pushing himself back onto his feet, glaring down towards her with a touch of disinterest.[break][break]

”Either way, that relationship shit’s a waste’a time, if ya ask me. Screw it all— like, actually.”[break][break]

Verity is a little slow. [break][break]

A little absentminded, a bit of an airhead. It's a miracle how he can keep the patience with her, when he has virtually little to none. verity doesn't realize she's making him repeat himself until he brings it up, and it rouses her from the clouds she'll leisurely float on. It only takes her a little bit for the words to register this time, though it's for his sake - so she doesn't keep him waiting again, or make him more frustrated. [break][break]

After all, he's her personal trainer, not relationship counsellor. She already has one, in the form of a poor woman who has to bear witness to all those mistakes. [break][break]

Instead now, she wears a soft smile on her lips as she gets up, arms stretched above her head before reaching to tug at the white locks, bunched up at her scalp. Her hair is still being held together, night and tight, thank god. [break][break]

"time that i can be using to get stronger, right?" she's already rearing to go, making little hops and step~~pies~~ in place "so.. what are we doing next?"

With those words, he breathed a low, sighing breath while beginning to clad his hands within the selfsame pads he’d taken off some minutes prior. His head turned towards her as he returned to the same spot they’d been at before their break, and with a small, silently judgmental and annoyed look (’Really?’ it practically screamed), he rolled his shoulders before holding his hands up before him.[break][break]

”We ain’t doin’ nothin’ next, though,” he went on, furrowing his brows as a faint, coy smirk settled upon his lips. He flicked one of the pads towards her as if goading her on. ”Ya still ain’t got the combo down. We ain’t movin’ on ‘til I say ye’ve done good enough.”[break][break]

he's quite moody. [break][break]

then again, he always is. though brash as he is, and as irritable as he is, it's still nice to have someone with his head on his shoulders - at least, one of them will have their head on tight enough while she has her thoughts in the clouds. "okay." she says, with a slight smile that time around, shifting her weight between her legs. [break][break]

her hands raise up, ready once again to swing and jab at the pads he's lifted eye level. her feet are planted into the ground when she takes a breath and bounces in place, each bounce in face of her punches' recoil. she's always been a strong one - always had a little more trouble than others controlling her strength. she's always thought it was a bad thing. [break][break]

but he doesn't think so. [break][break]

and it's enough encouragement for her to be less restrained when she grips on the cloth around her fists - if only to keep the skin of her knuckles from getting worn from the strikes. occasionally she'll glance between the pads out of concern, wondering if her strength was getting to be a bit too much - followed by another, carefully placed jab. [break][break]

a few jabs and a few huffs later, she gives a ruby glare towards the targets. no, she hasn't forgotten what he's said to and about her before. "i can't have gotten that rusty, though." the woman squints, one jab coming out stronger than the last. [break][break]

"i swear that you've just gotten stronger.." she'll sulk again, with another powerful strike at her pouting words.

”Maybe I did— but this ain’t about me, ya shitter,” he shot back, eyes narrowing into a glare. He held his hands firm, though instinctively peered down as one of the later jabs shifted it from its place further back than he’d anticipated.[break][break]

In turn, he clicked his tongue, speeding up the selfsame combination she already, otherwise knew.[break][break]
