Abner did not ask to be born, much less being born as a second child. Yet his parents forced this fate upon him, and he has blamed them for it ever since. It wasn’t even because THEY wanted him, he was an accident and they made sure to let him know that. When they actually cared enough to pay attention to him.

Luckily for all their faults they were not bad parents, only neglectful.

They should have stopped after the first one. Luckily for all involved parties, Abner didn’t mind living in the shadows. Where they doted upon the firstborn, Abner was allowed a surprisingly free lifestyle. Most of the time they didn’t even notice he was gone.

Such freedom allowed him to easily find his way into trouble throughout his childhood, but luckily he had the wits and charm to get out of most of it on his own. And the few times he could not, his parents did step up to the plate and bailed him out.
