dahlia goode may be all smiles and dimples but julien will not find the same from the one person who holds equal office on all matters foreign. their implicit trust is what allows her to be a figure head–a woman people used to think had no backbone until talked down by her stark rebuttals.

his expectation is met with deadpan obligation. as if, this man, smiles and all, were no different from any other trainer plucked off hoenn’s offbeat road.

“I DON’T BELIEVE SO,” is his open dismissal of his opponent’s introduction. it is imperative that such a narrative is cut immediately, before he can even entertain the main body of julien’s essay.

“as history has shown, you will find an effort backed by silph co. to be tenacious in the face of disaster.” his eye sweeps through the emptying ceremony chamber. “whether it be cave men looking to survive against hostile pokemon or an abandoned region trying to stay afloat against world ending threats.”

“UNFORTUNATELY, our experts are short on time. hoenn demands they wear many hats. the smarter they are, the more this region demands of them.”

this makes the second dismissal fernando publicly ousts when confronted with improper solicitation. while pleasant tones and soft words show him due respect, he cannot ignore the ask behind it. a dire take that would easily be overlook by the unassuming.

a mistake he will not make twice.

“although, i think we can make that happen should kalos agree to allocate rights to REFLECTION CAVE and KALOS POWER PLANT to SILPH CO.”

“AH, so we are in agreeance,” is both his way of calling him out without defacing him outright. after all, how can it be derived as an insult when he parroted off the man’s own words? a faithful reminder to never admit fault. not unless one expects mercy at the sight of submission.

a trait that hoenn has stripped from his person. silph co.’s ceo is no longer a man who knows pride or honor. he is as shameless as the threats that lurk beyond their border. he is a man built to survive in a ever-changing world.

“the same as kalos and galar,” he leads, “just barely short of nothing.”

his nose wrinkles in obvious disapproval.

“unless you consider their proclaimed ‘introduction of invasive species’ as a gift rather than an overlooked consequence of their unchecked immigration.”

“SOME WOULD,” comes a dangerous agreeance that is all too familiar. those unacquainted may fall into the momentary lull of winning some small semblance of approval. but those more intimate, such as a more tenured PENELOPE LIVY, would recognize that such words are meant to disarm deceive.

a small win makes a punishing defeat all the more tragic. only after one has tasted hope can they truly understand despair. a habit fernando relishes in wordplay, whether he realizes it or not.

“but that would discredit and disrespect the agency of those involved. a gross simplification of the tragedy in kanto, the adverse effects it has had on the silph’s legacy, their proactive movements to prevent a repeat, and the open compassion of a region sympathetic to their plight.”

a heavy inhale permeates the berth of his shoulders. inflate lungs puff a chest that must make way for an insidious smirk. one that bemoans confidence at the expense of someone else’s anxiety.

“which is why this region continues to allow galarians in despite the reciprocation of concern and support. this nation is a kind one.”

which is why he must defend it. why he must be the cruelty that suspects malice from others and defends their borders as their greatest villain.

his smile dies with his responsibility.

"but no, demassieux, i would not say the silphs are doing well.”

he adjusts the headband that conceals his missing eye.

“my sister, stormy*, killed in action. my brother, matias, dying from the burden of his role, and myself, tormented by a criminal organization that looks to finish what they started upon my parent’s gravestone.”

he clicks his tongue.

“but, perception is reality, i suppose.”
