Gubli made a soft whining noise as it ducked back behind Kara's leg. She couldn't blame him, really. Her own hand reaches up to shade her eyes as she peered at the open route before them. They had spent so long in the woods, she almost forgot what standing in direct sunlight was like.

Considering all she had forgotten, it's almost amazing that that wasn't one of them.

Her own joke made the girl grin as she leaned down and gave the gible a little pat on his head before scooping him up. "Don't worry, Gubli. It's just the sun. Give it a couple of minutes and you'll be used to it." Offering him a reassuring nod, she strode forward as if to prove it wasn't anything to worry about. "I think I like Red's fire more, though. Maybe not as all-around warm, but at least it only hurts your eyes if you stare at it."

With a wink, she hugged the little dragon a bit tighter. She wouldn't be able to carry him too long, he did weight quite a bit, but spoiling the little guy with ten minutes of cuddles? Kara could manage that.

As the carkol rolled out into their path, Kara gave a soft gasp of surprise. It was big, and looked mean, and she wasn't sure it was a fight they wanted to take. Looking down at the gible in her arms she gave a shake of her head.

"You go left, okay?" she asked as she put her friend down. "I'll go right." They had practiced this a bit, and both squared up to charge the big guy. As it seemed to rev up, Kara shouted, "GO!" and both took off. They ran straight for the Pokémon only to jump to the sides and, as it overshot them, keep running. After about thirty minutes, the pair finally stopped beneath a hillside that offered some shade.

They were a bit further down the road when Kara spotted the grimmsnarl. She had just enough time to grab Gubli and duck behind a small mound. Slipping into the little ditch that had formed, she held the little one close as the pair waited patiently for the big guy to wander off.

In the meantime, the girl whispered soft words and made funny faces, hoping to distract her little dragon friend from the potential danger. She had been told one day he would grow up and be really powerful, but for now all she could imagine was him getting hurt. She had promised she wasn't going to let that happen, that she would protect him.

She fully intended to keep that promise.

One scary Pokémon after another had wandered onto their path so far, but this one? It was so cute!

Kara squealed in surprise as she saw it and already imagined it playing with Gubli and Red. Three little dragon friends all adorable together.

She didn't try to battle it or weaken it. Instead she let the charmander out of his ball and sat on the side of the road, playing with them. It was thirty minutes before the little guy wandered close enough to watch them playing. Another hour before Kara backed off and let the little guy play with just her friends. By the time it was night, the trainer had set up a little camp with the help of some of the other Pokémon and whistled for the dragon bros to join her.

Of course they brought their new friend along.

He camped with them and Kara made sure to share food with him just like she did all her other friends and when it was time for bed, she patted a spot next to her amidst the others so he could join. While he didn't join right away, when she woke up in the middle of the night, she was happy to see he was snuggled right up with Gubli.

In the morning she gathered up her friends and offered the little one a Poké ball of his own. When he accepted, she hugged the little dragon close and named him Camelot. Once he was snug inside his Poké ball and off to his new home, Kara was back on the road, ready for her next adventure.
