[attr=class,text]What an intriguing way to start the visit of a city then by receiving an egg from a stranger. An odd stranger even. Saying stuff like that egg would determine Balder's future, his fate, and what he'll be doing in the future. How could an egg determine that? It's not like it was a legendary egg for a legendary pokemon or something. In this egg rested an unknown and calm pokemon, only waiting to see this brand new world.[break][break]

And that's why Balder won't abandon it. It wouldn't sit right with him. That yet-to-be-born critter had the right to come out in the world, to experience it in his own eyes. But.... How do you hatch a pokemon egg? That was the biggest question that Balder had, since he never really stood around daycares and such. He did hear talks about them, but shouldn't their methods differ depending on the pokemon type? Without knowing who the parents were... How could he select the appropriate method?[break][break]

Guess the best option is to keep it warm... Balder pulled out one of his pokeball, making Blaze the charmander appear. He then gently placed the egg in the little lizard's arms. "Blaze, be extremely with this egg, and keep it warm. If you see you're having difficulty, stop and I'll take it." Blaze nodded a couple of times and hugged the egg as they started walking. Maybe they'll find something to pass the time or enjoy? Who knows how long that egg has till it hatches anyway.[break]

kyle was on his own stroll as well when his eyes spot the familiar face. four canines follow by his heels as he took each stride, trotting excitedly outside their leashes as their trainer went about his way. it was their turn for a walk-- a chore that kyle found increasingly annoying as he raised the number of pokemon he took in.

the egg on his arms suggested that he'll be adding another to their numbers.

"oh. it's the gym trainer."

his attention goes to the charmander with him. he raises a brow at the sight of him being in a similar predicament as him, having to take care of a pokemon egg. he seemed to be the kind of person fit to be a parent and take care of a newborn, if his first impression of him still hold true.

the case wasn't the same for kyle. he simply finds the younger pokemon annoying. nonetheless, he's required to take care of the egg in his arms since it's his responsibility the moment it was put in his possession.

"you're way away from sootopolis. you taking a break from duties or something?"

when kyle had been a trainer under a gym as well, he took several of those for the sake of slacking off from his duties. he usually found some kind of excuse to make up for it, however.

As the duo kept walking through Rustboro, the man heard a dog's bark. At first, he decided to ignore it, as it could simply be a trainer roaming with his dog-like pokemon. But then, the barks increased in numbers, and it didn't come from just one creature. What could be going on? And those barks were getting closer too. Suddenly, a voice rose up behind Balder, making him and Blaze look behind them. "Oh, Challenger-kun."[break][break]

Balder turned around, while Charmander sat on the ground, rubbing the egg gently. "I believe your name is Kyle, right? I actually came here to speak with Alexander Stone. Since he was promoted champion, I was thinking of taking over his gym, but the top brass already selected a new leader it seems."[break][break]

His gaze goes downwards as he had noticed a bunch of leash, only to see 4 small dogs staring at them. One of them, a Rockruff, reminded the man of his homeland. "I didn't know you were a dog walker for other trainers. Unless they are yours? Nonetheless, it's nice to see someone handling them correctly." Balder crouched down and presented his hand so that the dogs could sniff it.

nervous chuckling followed balder's explanation of his presence in rustboro. he was chosen as the supposed inheritor of the gym, though he declined the offer. had he held into the offer for a while instead of denying it immediately, perhaps maybe balder would have had a chance of claiming the vacated position.

he makes no mention of it though.

"the roster changes more often this year compared to the previous years," he takes note. "you'll probably be able to apply for one soon. maybe."

balder brings his attention to the dogs. he was ready to receive the usual compliment of how cute they were or something similar that the next words that came to him caught him completely by surprise.

he starts to wonder if that's how people see him.

"d-dog walker..."

his face turns to his dogs before going to balder. all of them besides the growlithe, curious and playful as far as puppies go, approach balder and take a sniff. the growlithe stays by his side while everyone else start circling around balder as soon as they finished sniffing the hand.

"they're mine," he answers his question. "would have brought some of my other dogs in the gym challenge had the rules been different, to be honest."

that special rule fucked him over, with most of the pokemon he had specially trained over the months being part of a two-stage evolution, and thus cannot participate.

The nervous chuckle that Kyle did made Balder raise an eyebrow, but nothing more. Surely he had his reasons to react like this, and pressing on would simply be a waste of time. Balder smiled as the dogs started to circle him, and making Blaze get closer to his trainer. "Well, who knows, maybe I'll inherit Sootopolis' gym. Or decide to just go and become champion instead of Alexander."[break][break]

The Dog Walker (Yes that is now your nickname) then proceeded in confirming that they were indeed his pokemon, and he would've brought more of them if the rules of the gym weren't so... special. Balder rubbed the back of his face as he sighed. "Yeah, sorry about that. Olivia did set up some weird rules to her challenge. But I did hear that you fought quite well nonetheless. And with how you reacted when you fought me, I'm pretty sure your knowledge allowed you to pull through."[break][break]

Suddenly, as he glanced at Kyle's arms, he noticed the egg he was carrying. "Well, what a coincidence that you got an egg. I hope it's not a weirdo that gave it to you when you entered the city?" As he said that, he looked down to Blaze, who was still holding the egg while the dogs seemed to be sniffing it.

"go for gym leader," he chimes in. "i know of dangerous people who'd attempt champion too."

a specific trainer in mind gave him flashbacks of a destroyed building as a result of a single friendly battle. there were even no stakes involved in it, besides sating his blood lust.

"the gym challenge's fine." he attempts to dismiss the apology since it wasn't really a problem for him "i work better with multiple pokemon in the field instead of singles format anyways. she gave me a triple battle, so it worked out in the end."

prompted by balder, he holds the egg with both of his hands in front of him.

"found this at the lost and found after the lilycove beach party. they said to bring it home it cause they don't want to take care of a baby 'mon."

"Dangerous? If I didn't know better, I'd think you're worried about me Kyle. I'm sure that guy you're talking about ain't that bad." For some reason, Balder couldn't help but think of Mateo as he said that. That man somewhat fitted the "Dangerous but not really" theme that this conversation was going for. And luckily, the man seemed to be alright with how his challenge turned out.[break][break]

"Good thing you were ok with it. I had feared she would do something like a quizz battle or something. Knowing her, she surely placed some restrictions like having one of each evolution stage or something." And then the dog trainer began explaining how he ended up with an egg. Retrieved from the Lost and Found? Were people that desperate to get rid of kids these days? How could the parents feel after all of that...[break][break]

"Well, at least it now has a trainer that's gonna take good care of him. Still, can't help but feel bad for both of these eggs, getting dumped so easily on other people." Balder glanced over to Blaze, holding the egg he had gotten from that weird man earlier. "Who knows, maybe we'll get our greatest partner from one of those eggs." Balder chuckled a bit from this statement.

"that's exactly how it happened," he responds to the statement about the gym match with an excited gasp. "had to make a quick trip to the pokemon center to change my loadout. i wasn't told that that thing was a possibility."

he wasn't told anything at all and went in to the challenge without much preparation. even if he was, he probably won't be bringing anything that doesn't fit his usual team composition.

he won the badge in the end and that's what matters.

"can't be worse than getting a whole batch of newborn mons at a ninety percent discount." basically how he got his team of ill-tempered mightyena. they were undesirable for the coordinating community that the breeder he got them from bred them for. "i got a bunch of mons that way, so i guess this isn't really new to me."

he stares at the egg. he already accumulated so much of his team to form multiple combinations for different scenarios that he wonders how he's going to fit the new one in any one of them. still, he remains hopeful.

"i got my mightyena from that. i'm sure you'll get something equally as great too."

Wait, so she had done exactly what he said? Forcing a 3 on 3 with one of each evolution stage... What was Olivia thinking? Plus having the challengers fight him first too... Overall, that didn't sound like an ideal way to have her gym acknowledged by other trainers. But if the challenger was alright with it... Guess there's nothing more to say.[break][break]

But what Kyle said somewhat troubled Balder. A batch of new pokemons at 90% discount... That sounds extremely weird. While there had been rumors of a black market and such going around recently, the fact that Aero acquired a bunch of pokemon at extremely low cost felt... wrong somehow. How could someone sell his pokemons to somebody else so easily and at such a low cost?[break][break]

Still, Balder didn't let his thoughts show upon his face. Instead, he focused on the man's last words. His mightyena huh... Seems like he was quite fond of him. "I'm not scare about what the egg will result in. One way or another, I'll raise the creature to the best of my capabilities. It was simply the circumstances that led me to acquiring the egg that had me appalled." [break][break]

Suddenly, Blaze started to whine softly, signaling his trainer that he was feeling uncomfortable. Balder proceeded to grab the egg from the lizard's hands, keeping it in his arms. "Well, seems like I need to go back now. Gotta fly all the way back to Sootopolis before Olivia wonders where I vanished and have her questioning me."[/color}[break][break]

their meeting was short-lived, but it was understandable. balder's duties lie somewhere else and time wasn't usually a commodity everyone has an abundance of. kyle doesn't see someone as earnest as balder to shirk his responsibilities like him.

he gives him a casual salute as he bids him goodbye. holding him back would have been an option, but he can't bring himself to sabotage him. such a nice guy that balder is. besides, he wants to finish his walk soon as well.

"try using training as an excuse," he yells as balder exits. "that usually worked for me when i was a gym trainer."

he walks to an opposite direction afterwards, puppies following after their trainer.
