Caelan sized up his competition: a scrawny kid that he almost felt sorry for; it didn't help that Caelan stood a good six (or so) inches above Harper. But then again, experience had taught him to never underestimate one's opponent, whether it was a showdown to the death, or smashing asses together. Caelan shrugged off his jacket, his muscled body bare save for the tight swim trunks that hugged the curve of his butt. A fire burned in his eyes which signified his determination for the win.

"No hard feelings, right? Let's have fun with this." Despite his earlier musings, he couldn't resist wearing a cocky smirk as he got onto the floatie.

[attr="class","body"]Holy, this guy was jacked. Fern looked back over his shoulder pitifully to where jayden cross was matched up with someone who looked far easier to face off against. Shows him to just follow blindly and sign up for something just because his partner had. No, no. He was doing this for mint frost too. That was the important thing to remember before he got rocket launched to the moon by the sheer force of this guy’s glute power.[break][break]

Hm. He could be more confident than that. His kingdra swirled around the floatie in a constant pace once Fern pulled himself up as well. It seemed the other man knew exactly how to smirk in a way that struck his competitive edge, and drown out any intimidation previously felt. Maybe he didn’t have the ass power to back it up, but he was never short in bravado.[break][break]

“Yeah, all good,” Fern replied, Cheshire Cat grin pulling across his mouth as a hand lifted to toss their hair. Every bit as obviously confident as his new rival. “…but I’m in it to win it, sweetcheeks.”[break][break]

It wasn't hard to see that his competitor was a little nervous. Caelan couldn't blame him - the kid was a bit scrawny and maybe it was a little unfair for the two of them to be matched together. Regardless, Caelan wasn't about to complain about his first opponent in the tournament. He watched Glacier, whose laser focus only served as encouragement for him to kick -- or bump -- some butt.

The cheeky grin that Harper flashed him only served to widen Caelan's. "Good to hear. You and me both, kid." His words were followed up by an o o r f from Glacier as she dove under the water. Caelan casually slid into position, as though this were no different than an assigned hit, and at the sound of a whistle, did he push backwards with all his might.

“Ha! I’m not a kid,” Fern shot back, huffing as he twisted around so that he’d was back to his opponent too. “But okay, boomer. Hope you can handle it.” At the cue of a whistle, Fern shoves back as well—hip jutting with what he hopes is a bit more oompf for an advantage over Mr. Senior Citizen.[break][break]
Lir rises up out of the water as he circles the float, regal head held high as he swims through motions of a RAIN DANCE. The cloud spreads above them, the patter of rain slicking up the plastic material underfoot. So long as Fern can hold his footing, it should work out pretty well in his favor.[break][break]

"Not a kid? Kid, you look like you could be my kid." Rain gently fell onto the arena and Caelan took just a few seconds to glance up at the sky. "Glacier. Time to rock." With an obedient o o r p h she dove just under the surface of the water with her tail raised and began to create waves just high enough to start rocking the floatie they were both on. Between the slipperiness and the rocking of the floatie, Caelan seized another opportunity to push back.

His feet skid on the slippery surface thanks to his kingdra’s efforts, but it was supposed topple this other guy, not him!! He catches himself at the last moment, arms shooting out to either side, to resettle his balance. “Oop! Close call~” Lir pokes his head up out of the water and Fern gives the sea dragon a wink—the go signal! In time with another backward bump into the older man, Lir uses brine to crash against the floatie, tipping the weight and attempting to tilt it so that Fern’s end goes up while the other goes down to pull his momentum backward. “My dad, or my daddy?” They shoot a look back over their shoulder, and childishly stick their tongue out at him.

That damn Kingdra really was turning the tides - both figuratively and literally - in favor of Harper. Caelan damn near fell face first into the water and it was only thanks to Glacier countering the incoming waves from Harper's side that he even managed to keep his footing. Half his left foot dipped into the water as he steadied himself, trying to keep them from slipping off the floatie as he attempted to regain his footing. "Damn, kid." Despite being shoved against a figurative wall by such a runt, Caelan couldn't help but grin as he quickly peeked over his shoulder. "Cocky little shit. You're gonna be my daddy at this rate." His grin only grew wider at Harper's teasing, unable to keep himself from bursting out in laughter as he pushed back once more. It wasn't over until it was over, and Glacier had to agree as she continued to rock the waves with surf.
