they've been entrusted to oversee the slateport lighthouse while the keeper enjoys a rare evening off. at the top of the tower, noah and kyle are privy to a sea embroidered by the night sky's stars.[break][break]

noah takes a seat outside the lighthouse's lantern room on the catwalk outside. he dangles his legs off the edge, thick arms draped lazily over the railing for support.[break][break]

"good view, don't you think?" noah says. "we should come here more often. use your apartment instead of letting it go to waste." he pats the empty space beside him.

"finally. a good ending for that wretched event."

there's nothing to say to his fans. the best he offered them was a quick match, which many took. others stayed in the sidelines to cheer. kyle would've been one of them too, if only someone else popular was available at that time.

to take on a new responsibility for the sake of romance wasn't logical at the very least, but it's what gives kyle something to quip about to noah as he joins him on the best seat of the night.

he sets a paper bag just behind them as he clings on the railings, slumping his weight forward with a sigh as he holds his head low.

"you shouldn't have taken the gym leader position then," he berates noah in his usual whiney tone before he his tone changes audibly with the smile. "but yeah. there's a reason why i stayed here before instead of my hometown."

slateport was a good mix of commercial districts and nature. the beachside aspect of it adds a lot of aesthetic and provides a good comfort for the mind should the hustle and bustle of the city prove too much.

"how often do you want to stay here anyways? do you want to make that nice, humble apartment a summer villa?"

"summer villa sounds real nice." noah says. one hand glides over kyle's arm to massage it. "but i'd feel too guilty about the dogs."[break][break]

the brine tickles their noses. the starlight captured by the surf is anything but passive as they dance across the dark navy blue, mimicking the crowds that have gathered for the imminent fireworks show.[break][break]

noah rests his head against kyle's shoulder, heavy with thought.[break][break]

"was the meet your local heroes event that bad?" he asks. "seems tiring."

"depends on the person, i guess. you would like it, i bet."

he had the charm. there was a reason why the gym was the first place new challengers flock to. with such a kissable face as the front of the establishment, who could blame them.

"oh, yeah. i got this for you." kyle turns around to take a keychain from the bag. it's an acrylic of a caricature of him and a mightyena. "they had me give these away for the event. you can have one since you missed the meet-and-greet, hehe."

his die-hard fan is now his husband. it's a scandal for most celebrities, but it shouldn't be a case for him if it only happened once.

kyle continues hanging his weight against the railing, tilting his head to the side as he turns to noah.

"i have more if you want."

noah plucks the charm quick and holds it up to the moonlight. seeing kyle and his mightyena rendered like this, so small and enclosed by the palm of his hand, recalls an old life.[break][break]

it's true that noah would have been one of the first in line at the event. now, he sits beside his own personal hero to share in the night sky and sea.[break][break]

noah fishes out his phone and is quick to attach the acryllic. "i can send some to my family in johto. they'd love these." he grins, so sure of his grand idea. "you know they got boxers with my face on them, right?"

"i want your face in my boxers," he nonchalantly responds before his smile softens to one of fondness. "i still want your merch though."

part of him thinks he got his lines backwards, but shouldn't matter in the end.

his hand gets shoved to his pocket as he takes out a deflated balloon. with no pump around, there's only one way for him to actually show it to him. he hands it over to noah, so he can practice blowing.

"i like the print so i took one of them." he offers no other description since noah's going to know what was printed once it's all blown up. "we can have this for a birthday party or something when we visit your family again."

on it was just a cartoon mightyena. it showed no sign of it being special or commemorative outside of a studded collar and a crooked crown that it wore.

noah snorts. despite the nonchalance, he's easily stirred. a hand sneaks to kyle's thigh as he takes the balloon to inflate. the scent of old rubber, warmed by the summer sun, accompanies the expansion of the print. [break][break]

the gym leader plucks the balloon from his teeth and is quick to tie it. paws connected to little strings dangle from the balloon's body.[break][break]

"a mightyena?" he laughs. "if we brought this home, the dogs might get jealous." noah's hand continues to caress in comforting waves much like the sea breaking upon the soft shore. "they probably already are."

"you walk them so i'm sure they tolerate you."

he takes noah's hand and pulls it closer before he raises his arm to tug the rest of noah to him.

"yeah get closer to me," he confidently orders noah, "and take this."

from the paper bag comes two plastic containers of yakisoba. he gives one to noah, along with a pair of chopsticks, and the other stays on his side of the catwalk.

"this is the last thing i got from there, i promise." he's been giving him trinkets that could be considered trash after all. "i didn't get to snack at all during the entire event, so we're having our private dinner here instead."

besides, the fireworks show was about to start, and just like any movie, food was a nice bonus for every show.

when he's tucked close to kyle, noah drops the mightyena balloon. it bounces lightly across the catwalk as its perpetual smile rolls about the floor.[break][break]

"they didn't even feed you?" noah frowns. "or maybe you were just working too hard."[break][break]

the chopsticks click together as noah shuffles them into position. he plucks several greasy noodles and brings them over to kyle's lips.[break][break]

"i'll feed you then. open up, dude."

has he been working hard?

the realization that he's coping too hard on several changes on his behavior is lost more often than not. he wasn't the type to monitor his activity, but he was the type to bring it up every time to depreciate himself.

weariness sets in as he tries to shrug it off. he wants to live in the moment, with noah offering him food.

"feed me please. i want to get taken care of, thank you very much."

as he takes one big mouthful of the noodles, the corner of his eye spot movement from below. the slateport beach starts to get busy as the preparation of the final event comes.

he ignores it again as soon as he finishes his food, opening his mouth a second time for the next bite.

a laugh ends up as a light huff leaving noah's nose. his lips curl into a thick smile. though the scent of brine has long since been overpowered by instant noodles, noah is still tickled by his husband's levity.[break][break]

"i gotcha."[break][break]

he feigns another scoop of noodles. instead, he meets kyle's mouth with a kiss. it's soft and slow. while he sets his meal by the wavering balloon, noah leans in closer to anchor a hand against kyle's chest.

kyle was actually hungry, but he won't say no to this.

a hand grips noah's shoulder as he returns the kiss. he closes his eyes as he takes in the moment, biting noah's lip as he tries to take over the action. as the gym leader leans forward, the champion pushes back.

his heart races as soon as the moment ends.

"i wanted to do that!" he whines again. "but i was waiting for the fireworks to start. i thought i can stall with food."

he looks at the container of noodles, and then back to noah. "i want more though."

noah hoists another mop of noodles with his chopsticks. carefully, he delivers them toward kyle's mouth, but noah is quick to retract the morsel. with a taunting hum, he eats the portion instead.[break][break]

suddenly, their faces are illuminated by spectacular lights. colours crash and cascade across the night sky as fireworks begin to burst.[break][break]

"took them long enough."

with a smile that makes his cheeks ache, he takes in the mouthful of noodles from noah's chopsticks.

he chews first before taking his own food. "alright, you go eat that," kyle tells as he points to noah's own serving with the unbroken chopsticks of his own. "i can't eat all of that when i bought it for you."

his head turns to the ground as the crowds form by the beachfront. this was part of the carnival still, and the performance has its fair share of spectators, including them.

"do you want to stay over the apartment tonight?" kyle offers as he finally opens his portion. "you seem really excited about it after all."

kyle takes a bite of yakisoba.
