Born and raised in a quiet life in Twinleaf of Sinnoh, Gwen was sheltered and left in the dark more often than not. Her mother remained home in the small town while her father worked in Jubilife, providing for them and giving everything they could ever need. What they couldn't give Gwen, though, was the one thing she wanted more than anything. A sense of purpose.

She began wandering further and further from home as she aged, and when she was 13 she was finally given her first pokemon, a Riolu, in hopes of keeping her satisfied with the small town life. Instead it only made her spark bun brighter.

The duo grew together, and when she was 18 she insisted on setting out on her own. Many kids younger than she started on a trainer journey, why couldn't she? Driven by fear from the Rocket threat, her parents pushed back. Gwen was safer here.

Gwen obtained a job in Sandgem as a barista for a coffee shop, appeasing her parents and secretly began to save up money. When she was 21, she had decided enough was enough. She was ready to leave. Gwen and her partner set out in the dark of night, setting off on their own journey in hopes of showing her parents she was strong and independant. During their travels they acquired an aggressive Archen from a precarious situation, as well as a shy Applin.

It didn't last, however, and her mother confronted her in Veilstone several weeks later. It quickly turned into an argument, and Gwen realized she would have to take drastic measures to prove herself to her stubborn parents. She found a ship and sneaked on board, going wherever the wind took them.

The ship landed in Kalos a week later, where she briefly settled in Lumiose City, picking up another job a a coffee shop. Months passed without speaking to her parents, until once day to her surprise, they showed up at her work. While they still didn't agree with her chosen path, they wished her well and gave her their hesitant blessing, as well as some money.

The family departed without incident, and Gwen set out once again throug Kalos, where she eventually befriended a Noibat. Not long after that she grew restless once again and set out, using the money her parents had given her to buy a ticket on a ship.

Two weeks later they landed in Hoenn. Here, she would find a new adventure, and finally prove to her parents she didn't need them. And hopefully, find that sense of purpose she so desperately craved.
