marcus knows aerial advantage is crucial for the ground troops below, so he does what he can to eliminate league threats from above. PENELOPE LIVY flying above the cave attracts his attention, but he tries to keep his noivern out of her line of sight for the time being. [break][break]
he engages with her eventually, with a dragon pulse from behind. it's an explosive announcement of his presence, if she hasn't noticed him already.

Steadfast against the ripping winds, Staraptor made for a proper steed for the councilwoman. It offered just enough stability to maintain altitude above the cave and allow for her iron moth to continue surveillance over the landscape.

Whirls and beeps jutted out from it's engines as it hovered beside her. Its beedy eyes - black, metallic, and cold - scanned the surroundings once, twice, then three times over.

"Detection: none," it emitted.

Penelope clicked her tongue against the back of her teeth.

"Le-"

Before she could continue her commands, her robotic pokemon whirled again, this time it's voice droning out in harsh screech: "DANGER! DANGER!"

It's metal wings then began to spin rapidly, sending forth a HURRICANE of wind. It offered just enough time for its trainer to evade the incoming DRAGON PULSE, all through cutting up the beam of compact energy.

Despite the way in which her hair swung behind her, sweeping strains across her widened eyes and furrowed brows, a trickle of fear compounded inside her.

the hurricane dispels his dragon pulse in an instant. vicious winds tug at his clothes and yank his noivern sideways as it tries to stick a landing on top of the cave below PENELOPE LIVY .
it's rough and graceless but, by some miracle, he manages to remain on its back and not sprawled out among the stone outcroppings.

"porygon," he commands, voice gravelly and breathless from adrenaline. "discharge. above us."
[break][break]
the porygon materializes pixel by pixel, uploading itself from his phone and into reality. electricity crackles and snaps around its robotic body in the moments before arcs of lightning are shot up into the air.

Rather respond with words and reason, the rocket brandished it's electric blade and took arms again, shooting out an arc of power up toward her.

There was no time to react - the speed of lightning far outmatches any flutter of her wings, even under the best conditions. And so, she was left with no other choice for defense.

"IRON MOTH"

The man made(?) contraption kicked into gear, soaring straight up at a rate just fast enough to soak up the incoming attack.

It shuddered against the pulse of electricity, its engines whirling in loud puffy coughs.

"Reuse the electricity," the trainer urged her pokemon.

With a display of pouring golden light, the IRON MOTH coated the skies in a pulsifying electric terrain.

marcus squints against the sun as he watches PENELOPE LIVY 's iron moth attract his porygon's discharge. lightning glitters across its metal body, then reflect out across the sky. [break][break]
"again," he orders his porygon. "aim for the girl."[break][break]the normal-type's joints spark with electricity as it revs up another discharge. it takes a direct path toward her, gaining strength as it cuts through the orbit of the electric terrain. [break][break]whether it hits or not matters little to marcus — for him, it's a distraction away from him and his noivern as they try to take off from the roof of the cave.

Quark Drive was activated.

Now, in this terrain vibrating with electricity, the engines of the IRON MOTH roared. It didn't just move toward the porygon, whose intent was made obvious, it sped. Wings made of vibrant red cut through the air, so when Porygon prepared itself to discharge, it was readied with a response.

A pulse of hurricane jutted forward, looking to disrupt the cast.

All the while Penelope was allowed to focus her aim else: namely, the rocket who was looking to make his escape.

"Not so fast!"

Purple swallowed the Staraptor's wing as he sent out a AERIAL ACE toward the noivern, looking to targe one of its wings.

porygon lets out a string of beeps — an error code, maybe — as the hurricane scoops it up. the discharge dispels with a crack as the normal-type spins helplessly around in the cyclone. marcus had hoped it would have been a better distraction than what it fizzled out into, but PENELOPE LIVY stays fixed on him as he and his noivern lift into the air. [break][break]
fuck, he thinks, glancing back at the staraptor gaining on them. there's no avoiding it, so he tugs his noivern into it. the aerial ace strikes the noivern harshly against its body. the dragon-type lets out a shriek, floundering from the blow — but not nearly as fatal as a compromised wing would have been. [break][break] with a gust of tailwind, the noivern gracelessly rights itself and tries to get out of the staravia's striking range.

The thrum of battle is rich between her teeth as the AERIAL ACE made it's mark on the noivern.

"Another one," She barked out to her pokemon, directing a mirroring slice of compressed power out to the Rocket yet again. Then another. Then another. Until there were several shreds of purple rending through the air, making light of the collective damage they would soon stir.

the tailwind carries him ahead, but not far enough to escape PENELOPE LIVY or the aerial aces her staravia whips up behind them. [break][break]
"double team!"[break][break]
it's not optimal, but it's better than plummeting into the ocean below. with a screech, his noivern splits into several copies, each severed an instant later by purple energy. his haphazard safety net is cut loose beneath them as the other aerial ace attacks land their mark on his noivern, dropping them through the sky. [break][break] he yells and pounds his fist against the beast's back, but the dragon-type only outstretches her wings near the end of their fall, catching the air with a few desperate flaps before they plunge into the water. [break][break] marcus resurfaces eventually, clutching his side, blood clouding the seawater around him. his noivern returns to its pokeball, unusable.
