Thankfully the Confuse Ray holds true, and in the chaos of everything, the Dusknoir seemingly vanished into wispy spectral energy.

It would take a few seconds before the Dusknoir suddenly moving forward with frigid energy gathering in one of his fists before attempting to clobber the Noctowl with an Ice Punch!

He wasn’t going to interfere with his own Dusknoir’s decisions either; although it would become more obvious the longer the battle went on when he realized he had massively fucked up, because there was some corner in his head that belatedly realized that Noctowl was part-Normal typing…

the immunity to ghost-type moves had been a part of her decision to stay and fight. however, her noctowl was a little beat up from its battle with the paradox pokemon. the super-effective ice punch landed and the bird gave a loud screech of pain. a patch of feathers froze solid, causing it to fly lopsided and dip towards the ground below.[break][break]

lulu’s face turned, clearly concerned they might lose before the bird pulled up at last second, managing to send several waves of hypnosis in the dusknoir’s direction. lulu’s hand twitched for another pokeball, just in case–this time, for her escape plan.[break][break]

And it was now, he would realize, what his belated mistake was.

Normally, Flying-types were just that, right?

Lars had clean forgotten that a vast majority of Flying-types shared a type with Normal… so one can probably see where this is going…

Just as the Dusknoir was about to come close with yet another Ice Punch attack, waves of sudden drowsiness would strike the spectral Pokémon.

And alas, their ability was not anything like Insomnia or something like that, so…

“Nero, get back here,” he continued quietly, knowing that his Dusknoir had a keener sense of hearing than he did—the spectral Pokémon managed halfway before he pulled out Nero’s Pokéball and recalled them back inside.

“I clear fucking forgot about how Normal and Flying always are lumped together so… that would be my bad,” he told her as he shrunk down the containment unit.

“Unless you want me to throw out another Pokémon and we continue, or we can call it a good stopping point here, for now.”

To be far, all the battles were blending together and were getting to be too much already all things considered. After he’d pinched the bridge of his nose, he sighed before popping a particular Heavy Ball to full size and sending out his Metagross.

“Let’s get the hell out of here,” he muttered quietly as he threw himself over the shining silver beast’s body; who then proceeded to fold their four legs in before levitating and going off in the opposite direction.

He was more than just physically tired.
