Though the mysteries of this place should have taken priority, the siren of vengeance’s call was a strong one. Until their organization was scattered like the ruins of his home, Laelaps would continue his hunt. The hound’s figurative paw pads would be worn raw and stained red. Teeth ground to nothing from fights and close calls. Rumors circulated through the communication lines. A dozen different high-priority Rockets supposedly spotted

While preferring stealth to brutish confrontation, Nikita could not deny himself a chance at a potentially vital catch. A Houndoom skull mask had been slipped over his face, the bone-white thing designed to filter out noxious gas. “Bors en route to engage.” The normally isolated man uttered into the radio. “Which one?” The device in his ear crackles back. The detective sighs. “The elder.”

As always, his Houndstone was just a few steps behind—its skeletal toes never touching the craggy ground beneath

As he rounded a crag, he found himself staring at the back of an infamous Rocket. A reputation perhaps due moreso to the man’s connections than any specific accomplishments. A Pokeball was rolled between skeletal, nicotine-stained fingers. With a centering breath, he opened it. There was no taunting or pointless announcing of his presence. This was real life, not a comic book.

A Glalie erupted from the ball, its blue eyes narrowed in determination. "Go." From its frame, a powerful Blizzard erupted—aimed to not only damage the target but to obscure his vision. Perhaps long enough for the detective’s sidearm to be brought into play.

It is an attempt to catch his breath.[break][break]

Tempest pants after his last battle, soaked in sea water. He had pulled himself from the ocean, bleeding and red; a hand is pressed over a rip in his wetsuit, tacky and warm but thankfully not deep. A quick patching up should get the ex-Gym Leader back out onto the field. They couldn't afford anyone laying down for long.[break][break]

Then ice hits his back.[break][break]

Tempest cries out in shock, shivering as ice forms on his body. He fumbles at his belt.[break][break]

A golden Luxray curls around him, doing her back to block from the attack. She glows in unusual patterns before snarling and roaring at the strange man and his pokemon.[break][break]

Tempest does much the same when he turns, flicking his eyes around until he meets the other man's. At least the other understands; there are no words needed for what this is.[break][break]

"Mitten." Is all the warning before she surges forward, electricity crackling over her body. A Wild Charge intended to slam into the Glalie.

The Glalie does not celebrate, nor does its trainer. Such an attack was merely a shot over the figurative ship’s bow. In tropical waters such as this, the effectiveness of a blizzard is limited. Soon enough, the sun punched through the white veil—unveiling the normal landscape again. In the interim, Nikita has shifted from his former position to a closer one.

Unfortunately, it seems the visibility had not been limited enough. The men’s eyes meet across the landscape for a heartbeat. In that moment there was a brief flash of acknowledgment. “I would not have pegged him as a Mitten.” Perhaps it would be too far to term it as respect, but it is something. A similar look flits across the ice-type’s face as the Luray faces him.

At the feline’s snarl, the ice-type merely blanks. “Ignatius.” Hail drops from its breath like icy diamonds as steam rises from its icy exterior. When it charges, it seems as if the creature freezes. But—like his trainer—Ignatius is a deliberative creature. It is loathe to move when it is not necessary. As the Luxray pounces, a bright barrier flickers to life in front of him.
The Protect saves him from the worst of the attack.

Immediately on its heels, the Glalie unleashed the very spirit of chill from his core. The Sheer Cold was a wild, demanding thing that sought to freeze the entire battlefield into submission.

“I do not suppose we can get you to come quietly?” Nikita sounds tired—a state that has become perpetual. Obscured by his mask, only the movement of his bottom lip is visible—the mask’s snout long enough to hide his sneer.

Said very seriously, which adds some strange humor to the situation.[break][break]

Mitten slams against the shield, hurting herself. The ice starts to grow cold and she very narrowly avoids the sudden freeze over as she recovers from her recoil. She shakes her head, a sudden Howl of a noise escaping her as she lunges again.[break][break]

She feints, pretending to go in for a swipe before instead trying to leap to the side of the Glalie, so she can spit out a nasty Toxic to poison the other.

The detective’s eyes flickered to the yellow Luxray. His head inclined in the slightest hint of apology. “Ah.” While he wished to see Rocket eradicated, those feelings did not extend to their Pokemon. Many of the creatures were slaves to the machinations of the organization. They had little say in how they were used nor whose hand would balance upon their yokes.

“Quite. I did not mean the lady any offense.” A plume of smoke escaped beneath his mask—the glow of his cigarette lending the bone an almost hellish appearance.

The shield gave Ignatius a ringside seat in the void. Between those deadly fangs and moist, pink gums was a pit of darkness. He took a moment to contemplate that fate. But only that same, unreadable expression showed. The Glalie huffs as the cat dodges the attack. With a loud crack the ice that had formed shattered—temporarily reflecting the warzone like a shattered mirror.

When the cat attacked, the Glalie spins out of the way. Putting himself right in the path of a noxious, poisonous cloud. “Come now, Ignatius. Surely, you know a feint when you see one.” Nikita scolds from the sideline—-his words a dull punishment to the purple veins that now intersperse his ice. “HSSSSS!” With a powerful burst of energy, a Snow Scape appeared. The area around the pair is now an opaque white, hail falling down around them. The foam at the shoreline begins to freeze and crackle angrily.

In an attempt to buy himself some space, the Glalie lobbed three shards of ice at the prowling cat. A pained breath emerged as the poison crawled up a few inches.

Even if @nikita had attacked first, Tempest was still a man of his own morals, Rocket or not. He would give the other a chance to fuck off before actively trying to kill him.[break][break]

The dance that the Glaclie and that Mittens was doing was a pretty one, all things considered. The snow was a lovely set-piece as it danced over the landscape. It chilled Tempest to the bone, he was so weak to the cold, and it made him almost regret not tossing out his Glaceon. The Shadow pokemon would have been able to handle this a little better.[break][break]

That didn't mean that Mitten was wear or would give up, though.[break][break]

A flash of sudden, dark energy. The crystalline cracking in the air followed by a surge of power. The glowing pokemon was not partly see through, a dark glass appearance. The Terrastalization took hold, helping her duck and weave between attacks.[break][break]

"Spotlight."[break][break]

Mitten's eyes flicked a glowing blue before the light shone down.[break][break]

On Nikita.[break][break]

Not his pokemon. But the man himself. Mitten shook herself out to Wish. She didn't need to worry about the Ice Shard.[break][break]

Because the Glalie's move would head for it's own trainer instead of her thanks to her powers.

Tired eyes flicked to the Luxray as it raced across the sand and surf. The detective sighed. “Unfortunately, that is not an option, Mister Quinn.” Though he did not seem too perturbed by that. While this man likely had nothing to do with the tragedy that’d befallen the Sokolov family, he was a symptom of it. And, healing could not happen until you’d excised all of the tumors.

The man threw his arm up as the bright light of the terralization burst like an ink firework. A strangely contradictory meeting of bright and night. With a growl, he turned back to the battlefield. Unfortunately, that only resulted in him being blinded anew. A hiss in the air and a sudden feeling of coldness were his only warning.

“NNGH!” Blood erupted from his shoulder as the first ice shard speared him through it. With a hiss, he fell into a crouch to clutch at his suddenly cold arm. The other two ice shards smashed into crystalline shards on the tree behind him. Due in no small part to his ghoulish hound’s interference. The Glalie—reeling from poison—rushed forward. But he did not move to attack until the light went out.

Nikita rose to his feet, ignoring the dampness of his dark button-up. ”Well played.” In a flash, he’d leveled his gun at Tempest and fired. But two could play at that game. "My turn."

Gunfire.[break][break]

Temp hissed out a curse, ducking behind a rock. It had brushed his shoulder; nothing too deep, thankfully. His Sygna Suit was useful for something, after all. Still, the raw heat of the blazing metal left a burnt streak on his shoulder than had him hissing.[break][break]

Tempest didn't use firearms. Most he had on him was a knife he used to gut fish. His fists could usually do his talking for him.[break][break]

He needed to get out of here. The blood loss he was already facing from the gash on his side meant he couldn't keep up against that kind of shit.[break][break]

Slowly, a plan started to form in his mind. If he could just....[break][break]

Back against the rock, he whistled sharp and high for Mitten to hear.[break][break]

The Luxray snarled. The Spotlight would last for a little while, at least, which would buy him time. But, to distract the man, she tried to Volt Tackle the man himself.

The bullet went off course. It whistled past the other man’s shoulders before disappearing into the tempestuous waves beyond.Tired eyes watched the darker man from behind his mask. His lips pressed into a thin line—though,this was not a sign of concern. “That wound looks rather severe, Mister Quinn.” Nikita took a deep breath. “If you come with us, they will treat it.”

A look of anger flashed. “Even if you do not deserve it.” While this man was no Underboss, he still had played a role in many tragedies perpetrated by Rocket. Perhaps he’d even burnt another family’s house down in a pursuit of terroristic ends. In Nikita’s eyes, no one who willfully chose to join was innocent. Even the children were warped.

His nostrils narrowed as Ignatius and Mitten faced off against one another. Unfortunately, the inability to mmediately attack left Ignatius on the back (figurative) foot. As time went on, the deadly toxins continued to spread. Clear white ice soon taking on a lilac hue. “Ignatius, it is all right.” Nikita’s left arm hung mostly limp at his side. “I have been through worse.”

And, it seemed, Mitten wished him to feel more. Even if the pain of this attack would not compare to the things he felt when he saw the burnt wreckage of his home, it was best to be avoided. Another bullet was fired at the charging cat. At the same time, Ignatius charged to intersect.

Nikita stumbled back just in time for Ignatius to take the hit. “Tch.” He threw his arm across his face as sparks chipped at his skin. With a ghostly wail—not dissimilar to a keening blizzard—the poisoned Pokemon collapsed onto the ground. The baby blues dimmed before closing. “Thank you, Ignatius.”

With a snarl, his Houndstone prepared a Play Rough.

He forced his deadened hand to wrap around a ball. Its white-on-red surface soon became blood-slicked.
