OVERVIEW

a ranger based in fortree city whose love of nature takes her all over the hoenn region. while ranger duties are first and foremost, mika admits to a sense of wanderlust and adventure that drives most of her decisions. she will dabble in battles, gym challenges, excursions, and anything else that seems reasonable at the moment.

when it comes to pokemon, mika views them as nothing short of companions, and — because of her work as a ranger — extensions of one's self. as such, you will seldom see mika traveling without her trusted talonflame flying overhead. the world is made beautiful by its natural sights and exquisite wonders, so it is mika's core belief that humans owe much to pokemon as a result.

however, despite her line of work and her tendency to travel, mika is reserved and closed-off. it's to the point where even though she has nicknames for her pokemon companions, she doesn't actively use them in front of other people, for the sake of maintaining a sense of privacy even in public. while she doesn't detest or avoid socialization on purpose, she is naturally very comfortable on her own, and only seeks out other human beings when she realizes it's been too long without their presence.

essentially, mika's belief in helping people is the only thing keeping them from going full-hermit. but she's luckier than most to have had several close bonds throughout her life, one such bond being her first love a handful of years ago — a love that mika struggles to relinquish and fails to define.

otherwise, the world is their cloyster, and slowly and surely, she'll take a blade to the lip of the shell and shuck. she just has to try.

RELATIONS

MIKA'S FAMILY - a father and mother, both alive and well. her father is from fortree city in hoenn, and her mother from ecruteak city in johto, though she grew up in hoenn, as well. on her father's side, a love for nature prevails, whether it's being a ranger or protecting the environment or researching pokemon. on her mother's side, a love for the mystic prevails, especially legendary pokemon and their myths, and a firm belief that fate guides us all. ultimately, while her parents are normal and loving and accommodating on all accounts, their beliefs defined mika, convincing her that she is insignificant in the grand scheme of things, and meant to serve rather than seek. this is something that mika themself is not yet aware of, however. 

Julie Solette - mika's first love, though sometimes, she feels like the last. mika does her best to put up walls and create distance between them, but there is a mutual and forlorn affection between the two that makes it difficult for the barriers to stay for long. push-and-pull, give-and-take, rise-and-fall — theirs is a relationship of constant warmth and coldness, and searching for each other in the in-between. mika doesn't realize she holds herself and julie to a certain ideal, one that only muddies the waters and makes it harder to actually let go. but despite everything, she's still julie's beloved mimi, and julie is mika's precious jules.

Noel Parker - a friend that mika first met by chance, but has since kept up with him through battling and exploring the region together! mika admires noel for his determination and conscious effort to grow stronger — the latter which inspires mika to get better, herself. despite having different temperaments, mika finds themself enervated and hopeful around noel, something they will always be thankful to him for. there is a bit of a friendly rivalry growing between them, as well, something that mika honors and respects to the utmost.

PLOT HOOKS

ranger affiliates and peers are always welcome! being a ranger is one of mika's greatest joys in life, and it's their quickest excuse to be around other people. what she lacks in socialization, she more than makes up for in determination, and will always execute ranger duties to her utmost. as such, she regards her fellow rangers with a high degree of respect and friendliness, and enjoys spending time with them.

people with baby pokemon because mika's cherubi is too energetic and naughty for her own good. basically, anyone that's ready to be a tired parent with mika, please come and let the kids hang out together!

pokemon trainers that don't mind indulging mika's talonflame in a fight because her most trusted friend is also her most active one. plus, battles are fun and educational, so it's like killing two birds (but not her talonflame please) with one stone!

athletes, (normal) gym rats, explorers of any kind, y'all are more than welcome to come get your daily gains with mika. need a spotter? are you chill with a six-mile hike in the middle of the day? or better yet, just want to be out in the field like mika does? then come on gamers let's get this bread!!!

rivals, or perhaps even enemies...? it takes a lot to incite anger out of her, but mika has a hidden temper within that she's never unleashed on anyone, and these small things do pile up to something bigger one day. whether it's a healthy rival (i.e. pokemon battles or comparing ranger accolades) or a rocket ne'er-do-well, anyone that can challenge mika in more ways than one is certainly welcome to try!

friends and acquaintances in general because mika could always use more people in her life! despite her reticence, she is a kind person at heart, though perhaps not always the most consistent friend there is...

small romances or casual dates may not seem like something mika is interested in, but the truth is that she is a bit of a hopeless romantic underneath the calm surface! and ever since breaking up with their ex, she's been on the search for another who can spark a light in her life (but met with little success thus far)...

would you like a designated driver? or just a straight-laced friend that can sort out the mess of your life? then mika nakayama is the one for you! she doesn't like to admit it, but she enjoys feeling needed by others and having a sense of purpose in her life, so if you wanna get stone drunk or do something reckless like lasso a wild tauros, this ranger is on stand-by for sure.

down-to-earth people who can wake mika up from her eternal dream of solitude, or in less drastic terms, people that can level with her and tell her like it is: the past is past, let bygones be bygones, she's your ex for a reason. maybe this is someone they can drink at bars with and wax poetic about love and life? for all the retreating mika does into themself, they sure don't leave space for much else, and it's high time someone tell them that.
