alia is a runner. she runs and runs and runs so much that she never knows what she's running to anymore.[break][break]
she wasn't always this lost and confused. she had big dreams once too, dreams where she blazed through this world by creating art that ignited fires and sparked feelings that people thought they lost to the chaos of this universe. but the creative life has never been an easy one to lead; more often than not even the most determined of people are extinguished by the trials of time, rejection, and self-doubt. on top of the burden of supporting her family, alia lost the flame she had desperately hoped to stir in other heavy hearts.[break][break]
eldest daughter of a single parent household, alia learned the craft of anchoring things down at a young age, holding everything together except herself. somewhere along the way of providing for her mother and sick sister, she slipped through the cracks in their foundation and never quite felt like herself since. self-hatred and fear slowly accumulated in her gut, and soon enough it replaced the passion and ambition that once flooded her veins. not wanting to acknowledge the void that was threatening to swallow her whole, she ran. she latched onto the role of caretaker, maintaining an illusion of wholeness - she can’t be that broken if she’s keeping others together, right?[break][break]
she ignores how her spirit aches to pry away its roots and escape the lackluster landscape that it has found itself in. she ignores how in the silence of the night, after long hours waitressing at her local restaurant and taking care of her sister, she can almost hear her soul fading. she turns a blind eye to it all and pours every last drop of herself to her family because that’s what she does best (but if alia was willing to admit to herself, her family was simply a scapegoat for her inability to handle the idea that her all might still not be enough to succeed).[break][break]
so, this was it. alia was ready to run this monochromatic marathon for the rest of her life, slipping further and further away from the starting line where she left her yearning to create all those years ago.[break][break]
life has a funny way of altering one’s course, however. despite all of the prayers and their best efforts, alia’s sister passes away nine months ago. alia’s mother disappears a month after, unable to handle her grief in the home that held too many of their memories. with the two figures that alia spent most of her life orbiting around gone, she was knocked out of her trajectory and forced to confront the demons that she had been escaping. she finally turns around and attempts to find pieces of herself again; but years of fear and disconnection have built themselves into an obstacle so large that she fails to move past it, especially not right after losing the most important people in her life.[break][break]
old habits die hard, they say. so unsurprisingly, alia runs again. she flees all the way to hoenn and signs up to become a pokemon ranger, right back into her comfort zone of protecting and caring for something that isn't herself.[break][break]
but this time, when she runs, the yearning follows her. there’s the tiniest of flickers with every step she takes. flickers of hope.[break][break]
