Mei was not yet asleep when the crash sounded, having returned home not even half an hour prior to the jarring intrusion. Her last client of the evening had been an especially talkative man, and it had taken longer than she had anticipated to extract herself from his post-coital ramblings. She'd returned home mentally drained, and had hoped to fall peacefully asleep without much interruption - but alas, her hopes were dashed the moment it seemed as if their home was being invaded.[break][break]
The escort sighed, rose from the warm blankets she had only just nestled comfortably beneath, and padded quietly over to her bedroom door. She, too, was dressed in a nightgown - but that would not hinder her from incapacitating a trespasser if required. She'd killed wearing nothing at all more than a few times.[break][break]
She released Tyche, the Froslass floating silently beside her. "See if you can find anything unsual," Mei commanded, and the ghost phased through the wall just as Mei cracked open the door. She peered out into the dark hallway and immediately sensed the presence of another person.[break][break]
"Yumi? She called out, the familiar willowy form of her roommate coming into view.

As Yumi crowded in, Mei patted the other woman's shoulder reassuringly. The situation was somewhat unnerving, but Mei did not feel afraid. Not yet, anyway. Had the crash really come from inside of their apartment? Perhaps the wind had just - [break][break]
The sudden ringing of her phone, admittedly, caused Mei to jump back slightly, alarmed. Heart pounding, she met Yumi's wide, panicked eyes, willing herself to remain calm. Coincidence, surely.[break][break]
"Yes, but perhaps I forgot," she shrugged, keeping her tone even. All the same, she backtracked towards her bedroom with light, cautious steps. Peering inside, she found her phone on the bedside table, the screen flickering on and off and on again like a faulty string of solstice lights. Okay, that was strange.[break][break]
"Some sort of haunting?" Mei wondered aloud. It wasn't entirely unprecedented for a stray Ghost Pokemon to enter an apartment complex, after all. She turned to look back over her shoulder at Yumi. "See anything out there in the hallway?" [break][break]
Tyche ought to be able to tell if another Ghost was around, shouldn't she? Where had the Froslass disappeared to, anyway?

Mei snatched up her phone from the bedside table, unsurprised to find that she had no unread texts or missing calls. The flashing ceased the moment her fingertips touched the device. She sighed, irritation rising. She was tired and this was a nuisance.[break][break]
Joining Yumi in the bathroom, she rolled her eyes at the crude reproduction of the classic horror move trope. It was clear they were dealing with a trickster moreso than an actual threat, but that didn't lessen Mei's frustration. "Cute," she commented dryly.[break][break]
Another crash in the living room caused Mei to turn abruptly on her heel, leaving the bathroom without waiting for Yumi's reaction. She stormed through the hallway, arriving to find Tyche in the center of the room, her body shimmering from the effects of an AURORA VEIL. Across from her was...[break][break]

"A Dreepy?" Mei exclaimed, surprised. Upon hearing her voice, the little dragon turned its wide, panicked eyes on her. Mei had been expecting a pure Ghost type, typically the most mischievous Pokemon. But based on the Dreepy's scared expression, Mei wondered if its antics had been more cry for help than fun and games.[break][break]
"Stand down, Tyche," she called out gently to her Froslass, some of her annoyance from earlier melting away. "I think it's lost."

Mei sighed. "I suppose we should," she agreed.[break][break]
She did not love the idea of a Ranger coming into their apartment, however. She and Yumi were careful, their Rocket identities a secret. There were no obvious paper trails or signs of criminal activity. All the same, it felt unnecessarily intrusive. It was irritating enough that a wild Pokemon had invaded during the middle of the night.[break][break]
"On second thought, let's see if we can lead it outside. If we need to call a Ranger, we can do it then."[break][break]
Mei walked up to the Dreepy. "Hey there little guy, why don't we go for a walk, hm?" She kept her tone gentle, but motioned for Tyche to help her. The Froslass cocked her head, then seemed to understand Mei's intention. She summoned a ball of white fire, the WILL-O-WISP dancing around her body in an enticing manner.[break][break]
The Dreepy blinked its big eyes, then began to follow after Tyche, its natural curiosity getting the better of it. Mei followed after until they'd reached the apartment door.[break][break]
The Dreepy seemed to hesitate, suddenly uncertain. Mei sighed, patience beginning to run out.[break][break]

Thanks to Yumi's Hatterene, Mei and Tyche were successfully able to lead the Dreepy through the apartment door, down the hallway to the elevator, and out of the entire apartment complex. Despite grabbing her coat on the way out, Mei still found herself shivering as she stepped out into the cool October air. The Dreepy hovered by her side, looking up at the streetlights with its wide, nervous eyes.[break][break]
"Go on," she urged, shooing it away. "Go home."[break][break]
When it continued to hesitant, Mei finally lost her patience. Pulling out a Pokeball, she held it up in a threatening manner.[break][break]
"Get out of here or I'll throw this at you!"[break][break]
The threat of capture finally did the trick: the Dreepy zoomed off into the night, choosing its freedom over its fear, and Mei let out a long sigh of relief. They wouldn't need to call a Ranger, and she could finally get some much-needed rest.[break][break]
She had a feeling Yumi was already back in bed.
