“Surprise seeing you down and all the way out here,” he hummed at the sight of his companion.

While he didn’t have any Pokémon out, he did have a combat knife (two, actually) strapped to his leg as well as hanging off his belt just in case they were jumped… or if they had to hack their way out of a trap.

“I thought you were dealing with your archeological digs,” he added afterward. “What got you dragged into this mess, anyway?”

Nestled inside his jacket pocket was an enemy map he’d managed to pilfer off from a random passerby Rocket. Don’t ask how exactly that went down, though.

Remiel, too, traveled beside no Pokémon. Instead, he’d armed himself with a katana and tanto blade combo. Both hung from his hip within their respective sheathes. On the other side were the Luxury Balls containing the aforementioned Pokémon should he need them.

“Don’t think I could put my talents to use here?” He inquires back with a smile, avoiding the tendrils of INTERDREAM MIST reaching out to them like they were POISON. “What if we come across a ruin of some sort? On top of that, I’m a veteran, you know. I can certainly hold my own.”

He supposes Lars might have been looking for a deeper meaning behind him being here. But, for now, the exiled prince would enjoy the teasing.

Little did he realize that there may be some truth in the other man’s words regarding ruins and artifacts out here. Considering the rumored stories of there being ruins that may be found in undersea caves around here?

Well, that was entirely a possibility!

“I trust you, then,” he remarked, hoping that the royal would be able to go on equal footing should they get jumped from out of nowhere by anything that was not either the pink tendrils trying to ensnare anyone unlucky enough to pass by, or anything of that sort.

Not today, Satan! he thought as he then summoned his Lucario; an additional pair of eyes to keep watch as well just in case any unfamiliar aura owners came stumbling their way.

“Hopefully, if there are any ruins here, they haven’t been disturbed or anything like that. Because that’s what’s important for your line of work, right?”

"Being an archaeologist is my real métier, yes. I can't tell you how much happier I am to finally be out of politics." Or, TEAM ROCKET, for that matter, he thinks. "But I've been learning plenty with you lot as well. I never imagined being a RANGER could be so fulfilling."

It had almost been a year since he'd joined the AMNESTY PROGRAM. The rangers had helped him accrue trust with the LEAGUE since then, so much so that he'd been allowed to take part in assignments such as these. To say he owed them a debt of gratitude was an understatement considering his history with the criminal organization plaguing the region.

As they begin to travel beside a ridge overlooking an enemy encampment, however, Remiel soon changes the subject. "You're taking point for this mission, is that right?" The royal inquires, scanning the area for a moment before turning to the ranger captain. "We're here to scramble Team Rocket communications?"

“Politicking not your style, then?” he continued with this savage grin on his face. Truth be told, politics really wasn’t for everyone.

(See: his cousin Elinor Anderson who was now living the good life all the way out in Alto Mare, for one.)

“At least you have a lot more time on your hands now, wouldn’t you say?” he cackled quietly, knowing that some part of exploring old ruins also had a part to do with being out and about in nature.

(Maybe that was why the other chose to be a Ranger?)

As they approached the encampment they were supposed to ‘handle’, he drew his lips into a thin line.

“Either scramble, or get something that we can work with and bring it back to the League. Not everything is set in stone,” he hummed quietly.

“So it’s either or,” he continued. “Which do you want to do?”

More time? There was never enough time. But Remiel was certainly glad to be able to spend it outdoors instead of a boring office desk... or dank submarine, for that matter. So he nods in response to Lars' comment and smiles at the idea of going out there again after all this is over. "Something like that."[break][break]

When it comes to their assignment, however, the exiled royal considers their options as they take cover behind a large boulder preceding the encampment. "Well, I don't presume we're going in guns blazing... so let's try scrambling their communications from the inside first. If our cover gets blown, we can swipe their logs before making a hasty escape."[break][break]

Quietly, he summons a LIGHTNING JAVELIN in his hand before setting it down between them. It crackles with somewhat muted sparks as he continues in a hushed whisper. "We'll rendezvous here if things get hairy. Sound good?"[break][break]

He was unsurprised as the other summoned a construct made of lightning—before he had a belated realization as he remembered what the files said about his companion…

That they were similar, in more ways than one.

“You be careful,” he nodded as he pulled out a Pokéball that had a Rotom in it and summoned said Rotom that began zipping around him.

“If you find anything useful, like a map, or a book of coordinates, or anything we can use, bring it along with you—I’ll do the same.”

And off he went in the opposite direction, hopefully not to clobber any more heads than he already had.

"Understood," Remiel nods, accepting the other's leadership for the time being as he watches him slip away with his ROTOM. His own experience as the head of SPECTRA had provided him with a good understanding of the power Laurence Anderson had at his disposal. Despite his accolades and former titles, he still commanded respect from the exiled prince. Particularly in this context.[break][break]

After several assignments on this mysterious island, over the span of a few weeks, Remiel had gotten quite accustomed to traversing the terrain. Though he had his experience as a ranger over the past year to thank for that, too, he was sure. Every step is purposeful; every pause is intentional. He takes cover behind a bush or rock before advancing slowly towards the encampment ahead.[break][break]

Eventually, he finds himself at the backside of a large tent. After peeking through a crack in the seams, he realizes it's exactly what he's looking for: a COMMUNICATION STATION tent.[break][break]

He wonders how Lars is faring.

Meanwhile, on his sojourn through the difficult terrain with his Lucario on rear guard and Rotom zipping around quietly beside him, it wouldn’t take too long for Alpha to let out a low growl of warning—which he took as a sign that they were near somewhere that had people nearby.

“Thanks,” he hissed quietly as he then climbed a tree as fast as he could; while the Lucario crouched down in the undergrowth nearby. The Rotom continued to circle around, before he raised his lips to the zipping dual-type to keep it down—

“Short them out, go!” he hissed, and with a quiet cackle of glee, the Rotom then made its way towards the nearest tent and began shorting out the radio equipment it had found inside.

Daring to move closer to the large tent, Remiel could now see another communications station just across from him. Lars was nearby, and a ROTOM he had presumably summoned was now deactivating the equipment there. Unfortunately, a patrolling grunt was approaching its location from the east. Considering neither Lars or his Rotom were at a good angle to see this incoming threat, Remiel quickly decided to leap into action.[break][break]

First, the royal would a LIGHTNING STILETTO just behind the approaching guard. Then, in the blink of an eye, he would TELEPORT before striking the guard down with the pommel of his tanto blade. The man collapses to the ground like a sack of potatoes before Remiel drags the body away to hide behind some crates. When he's done, he reaches up to activate his mic before whispering into it.[break][break]

"Whatever you're doing, do it fast, Anderson. We've got patrolling grunts all over this encampment."

While his Rotom was gleefully causing mass mayhem, he’d gotten too engrossed with what was happening he almost failed to notice that he’d almost been snuck up on.

His Lucario then looked behind him, and realized that he thought he very nearly missed the sound of something that had almost jumped on him, before he turned and looked at Lars with this ugly look on his face.

“What—” he trailed off, before hearing a voice speaking to him to hurry it up and get cracking because it was time for them to hurry up and leave!

“Oh shit, really? Did you find anything?” he continued as he watched, and waited… waited for his Rotom to return—which eventually happened; though the Rotom was holding something aloft.

The Lucario made to grab it, realizing just what the other Pokémon may have found.

"Yes," Remiel grimly responds, glaring at the small squad of Rocket grunts in front of them. "It appears we've been discovered. Do what you can and go. I'll hold them off in the meantime."[break][break]

When would a mission on this wretched island go right? With a sigh, the black-haired royal reaches for a Luxury Ball at his belt and summons an APPLETUN before him. As he rolls up a sleeve to reveal a MEGA BRACELET, the grunts release their own Pokémon.[break][break]

"If it isn't the traitor himself, hehe."[break][break]

"The boss will give us a promotion for his head, right?"

"Pretty boy here can't be that hard to take down."

Ignoring their comments, however, Remiel commands his Appletun to undergo MEGA EVOLUTION next. Only when it is done does he realize that a WEEDLE from the draciary has stowed away within said Appletun's shell.[break][break]

“Don’t… don’t let yourself get caught, knowing who we’re going up against,” he warned the other; hoping that they would keep themselves safe enough to get the hell out of range should things get nasty.

Meanwhile, his Rotom returned with not one, but several pieces of paper that had scribblings overlaid on maps of what appeared to be territory that Team Rocket had already taken so far.

“Oh, you got this? Sweet, let’s get back and help our companion out,” he continued quietly as the Lucario nodded while he secured the terrain maps in an inside pocket of his jacket; before taking the lead and heading back in the direction where they had come from.

Hopefully they weren’t going to be too late to save the other human should he get in way over his head!

The onslaught of attacks from the three different assailants was overwhelming: even for a mega-evolved RADAGAST. It didn't help that all of these assailants were GROWLITHE, and therefore more efficient in team tactics. While the Appletun managed to HUSTLE and ROLLOUT one of them, the other time leapt in to FIRE FANG it from its flank.[break][break]

The Weedle in the apple would emerge to defend its home, attempting to POISON STING one of these pups. It managed to do so, though it was immediately seized within the fiery fangs of one of them afterward. Remiel could only watch as it was shaken around like a rag doll, burned alive and KILLED before being dropped onto the ground.[break][break]

"Don't bother reinforcing me. Take what you can and run!" He urges his comrade over the mic.[break][break]

“What, and leave you behind? Fuck no, because that’s not how the Rangers do shit!” he barked over the earpiece; while the Rotom zipped around in glee—before the smirk on their façade turned upside down at the sight of another Rotom…

And a match between the two was inevitable; although his Rotom had managed to fire off a surprise burst of Hydro Cannon at the other Rotom!

“Whoa! Watch where you’re—” he yelled as he was immediately drenched from head to toe when someone bumped into him; hissing profanities as well.

All it would take would be for Lars to slam his shoulder into whoever he’d crossed paths with—but the Rocket mook’s hands were faster; having snatched back the folded up maps that he’d hidden in his jacket!

The Lucario let out a bark of dismay and prepared to chase after the other human, while the two Rotom were fighting it out, one firing off a Shadow Ball while the other had lashed back with a Discharge of electric energy—

This was going to get messy to all fuck!
