deep beneath route 119, tera crystals crawl across never before seen caverns. this crystalline virus catches stalactites. caps crumbling ledges before stopping in shocked brilliance. this cave system, newly documented—newly created?—, looks more like the inside of a geode rather than a bowel of the earth.[break][break]

elijah and anahel have been assigned together by rocket to investigate this curious cave. it's dingy. suffocating. altogether tomblike despite the tera crystals' attempt at showmanship.[break][break]

at the mouth of the cave, the apothecary calls out to his partner: "we're supposed to map the place out. see if the league's been down here before us." rough palm pressed against his neck, he gives it a good ol' crack. "if you're claustrophobic, no shame in giving up."[break][break]

he summons a PARASECT from his pokeball, its white eyes flickering here and there.

Another mission. Orders have been coming more and more frequently, however this was the girl's first mission in the intelligence department.[break][break]
She was paired up with man named Elijah Gardener, someone she has heard of in passing due to their rank, but never met face to face.[break][break]
Elijah went over the mission details, before making a comment regarding the nature of it. Anahel wasn't sure if it was a joke or if he really thought she was that cowardly. It was not uncommon for other members to see her as a frail little girl. It was to be expected given her build.[break][break]
"Funny," she said bluntly back before passing him and entering the cave system. This was the first time she ever talked back to a higher rank member of Rocket like that. It goes to show she was starting to get comfortable.[break][break]

Kirlia, already out of her ball, followed behind the girl obediently.

funny. funny how the grunt braved brusqueness. funny how he found himself watching her pass him by. funny how similar she was to him and how frustrating it all was. [break][break]

elijah's parasect scuttles into the cave, leaving the man dead last.[break][break]

a grumble marks his resignation. he moves into the cave, the mouth of it looming low and over him like a swalot's descending maw.[break][break]

"you think talking to your seniors like that is going to earn you any favours?" the man wrinkles his nose.[break][break]

his parasect skitters past the kirlia, raising a claw toward a hint of glowing further into the cave.

Anahel raised an eyebrow at Elijah's rebuttal. Was he really that upset over such a comment?[break][break]
"I'd imagine high rank members would take their job seriously," she said continuing towards the direction Parasect pointed. "Or judging by those wrinkles, are you looking towards retirement?"[break][break]
The girl was already not the biggest fan of the man. His sour attitude brought a side out of her that she has yet to show amongst her colleagues in Rocket. She better tone it back or she was going to get it back at HQ.[break][break]
Kirlia darted forward past Parasect, making her way towards the source of the light.

"you don't retire from rocket." he says. "rocket owns you until the day you die."[break][break]

his parasect hastens its gait. skittering across the old rocks, its little digits clack cold. the bug—or is it the mushroom?—chases its competition through the damp so dearth of sun.[break][break]

"but you already knew that, didn't you? knew what you signed up for?"[break][break]

the two eventually near a tera crystal formation: a radiant marker for the upcoming deep.

Anahel was tired of this banter. She really just wanted to finish this mission and get away from Elijah.[break][break]
Approaching the glowing crystals, Ana could not help but crest her hand on them. They were beautiful, and not like anything she had seen before. Almost other worldly.[break][break]
The girl pulled out a notebook and began jotting down some notes. It was for the best to avoid getting lost in the cave system. Especially if it meant spending more time with moss head over there.

"They are like nothing I've seen before." Anahel tapped her finger on her chin, pondering on what they should do. "We are here to collect information, but bringing a sample back for HQ would be ideal."[break][break]
Now, how should she accomplish this?[break][break]
"Kirlia," she said in an authoritative tone. "Break off a part of this."[break][break]
The pokèmon nodded her head before using Psychic to lift a rock.[break][break]
Smashing it into the side of the crystal, the girl hopped a chunk would break off. The sooner they got this sample, the faster they could leave.

the rock crashes onto the crystal, forcing shimmer to skate across its smooth surfaces. like a winter moon kissing lake verity's rippling lip.[break][break]

a small shard is scraped from the tera crystal's shape. in spite of its size, its luster is remarkable resplendent. the sample is one step closer to the truth.[break][break]

a truth that elijah is wary of what it may reveal.[break][break]

his parasect clasps the sparkling fragment carefully before extending it to the kirlia.[break][break]

"rocket all you hoped for and more?" elijah asks. "smashing rocks with an old man?"

"About what I expected," Anahel said dismissively. "Enjoy watching little girls do your job for you?"[break][break]
In contrast to the tension between the two trainers, Parasect and Kirlia seemed to be getting along fairly well. The psychic type smiled and bowed their head as she grabbed the fragment from her new friend.[break][break]
Anahel bent down and retrieved the crystal shard. It really was a beauty.[break][break]
"What do you think?" The girl held the fragment to Elijah's face.[break][break]
Despite their rotten attitude, the man has been in Rocket for some time. Anahel figured he would have some input.[break][break]
While this went on, Kirlia reached her hand out to high-five her shroomy buddy on a job well done.

"it's horrible." after a high-five, his parasect scutters across more cavern stone to scout. "these terawhatsits came out of no where. it's an omen."[break][break]

krrk! he faces away from the crystal's glow and damns the earth with a loogie.[break][break]

"if i were you, i'd leave hoenn if i could." elijah says. "transfer to tha kantonian branch—if they let your cocky ass. this region's running out of time i'd say."

She ponder on what he meant by this. Was this really a sign of bad things to come? Were the end of days upon us?[break][break]
Standing back up, she patted off any debris that may have fallen on to her clothes and turned to the green haired senior.[break][break]
"Good," the blonde said as she placed the crystal into her bag. "This world is rotten... Imperfect. It is better off being destroyed."[break][break]
Anahel hated this world. It took pleasure in tormenting those who inhabit it. It took everything away from her. Everyone she cared for, gone. Was she left alive just so it can enjoy her struggles? Was her existence all some sort of cruel joke?[break][break]
Most people who were wronged the world resolve themselves to changing it, but Anahel was no fool. She knew the world could not be changed. It can only be destroyed, and built anew.
