After he’d left the Swirlix behind, he then tried to take a different tack on how to do this.

Some 30 minutes later…

He was back, and was actually carting something around before setting it down somewhere, and then lighting the stick to complete the setup.

He’d heard of these things, but hadn’t used any of them yet, so…

Why not try now?

Maybe he would get lucky and find the one he was looking for…

…ew, why did it smell of wet rocks?!

(Somehow, the smell kind of reminded him of the stench of gastro acid…)

It didn’t take too long before the smell of wet rocks finally attracted something…

And he frowned slightly at what appeared.

Sure, Geodude had a solid evolution line and an alternate form from Alola (which made it even scarier) but imagine that beast if it had a Mega Evolved form… especially the Alolan one… wouldn’t that be terrifying.

Unfortunately, it was not the one he was looking for today, so he would let the literal sentient rock waddle onward as he continued to wait from up in the tree.

Yes, he had a plan.

(No matter how silly it sounded in his head.)

The next thing that came by was… unfortunately not the thing that he was looking for; although it looked to be one of the newer ones that were supposedly starting to propagate across the region…

“Huh. No, that’s not it,” he hummed quietly as he let the strange-looking crustacean (wait, it had to be related somehow to Krabby and Crabominable, right?) scuttle away…

Hopefully the next one that appeared would be the one he was waiting for!

Unfortunately the last Rock-type that would approach…

“Onix… sadly, not you either,” he hummed from his perch in the tree. As the living serpentine pile of animated boulders curiously sniffed around looking for that ‘petrichor’ smell, he sighed.

Well, the good news was that he had several more of these strange incense containers to use, so he would definitely be camping out here.

(Little did he know that he would be meeting that Tyrantrum again…)
