Silph had him working like crazy. Which okay, yeah, that's what he signed up for sure, but a break was definitely warranted. Maybe that's why it had been exponentially easier to convince him to show up at this party.[break][break]

His college days were long over (okay, FINE, not that long,) but he had some friends in the grad program yada yada, house party, yada yada, everyone hasn't seen you in so long, it'll be fun, something or other.

And now here he was, dressed up in what could be classified as probably kinda slutty but also in sort of a good way, blinking, bright reindeer antlers fastened to his head...and nary a buddy or pal in sight.[break][break]

Em grumbled as he planted himself by the snack table, shoving pinwheel sandwiches in his mouth while alternative between gulps from a cup of questionably cheap boxed wine. Whatever, at least he could stake out there, indulge his munchy habit and maybe eventually be buzzed enough to lose himself in the sea of body crush that littered the house. All of them dancing to the thump of too loud, somewhat fuzzy house music over speakers that were working overtime.[break][break]

If noodly, drunk flailing could be considered dancing.[break][break]

At least it was warm enough due to the sheer number of people packed in there that he didn't feel all that cold in the tight, crop top he had on. It was sort of wild, this bolder outfit. Maybe he was just acting sullen, maybe a tiny part of him did want to party a little more, after all.[break][break]

And then he spied an all too familiar head of tousled dark hair that could only belong to Sen Hasegawa and did a swift heel turn back to the snacks until his cheeks were stuffed to dedenne level proportions. Nope. He was definitely sullen and sulking for real. And also now panicking.

The smell of body odor and cheap booze aside, Sen loved parties. He didn't even need an excuse to show up. Of course, he hadn't known about the party until the time of and he had floundered to find any appropriately holiday-themed costume to wear to it. Albeit, it was cold enough that he was regretting just wearing a tie without a shirt. "God's greatest gift" was a cheesy costume, but he did not really care.

The intent was really the same regardless. No one was there to look chaste for the holidays and they all had the same thing in mind for it. He was not opposed to skimpy dancing, drinks, and certainly not to free food. However, he'd not expected the red-head to be there. It was barely a glimpse. Maybe his brain was wired to pick him out of a crowd.

The best thing he could've done right then was to keep on walking. There were better things to do and certainly better people. Though, even with that thought, he faltered in his stride and stepped back until he could catch a better look of the little gremlin. Em was hunkered over the snack table, clearly trying to purposefully overlook the glaring headache in the room (that being him, of course).

"Little Red, didn't expect to see you here." His eyes lingered, "And wearing that."

Of course Sen picked him out all but immediately. Because Emerson couldn’t have nice things. If it were any other person, being noticed so quickly might’ve made him preen. With Sen, it only stoked a flicker of irritation as he turned himself back around to face the taller man again (or so he told himself.)[break][break]
If he’d been self-conscious about the tight fitting clothes he’d been wearing before, it doubled as Sen eyed him. His fingers picked absently at the fluffy, white fringe of the red crop top. The thick, reindeer bell collar suddenly felt like a step too far. As did the matching shiny, pleather short shorts and the thigh high socks. All of it too much effort. Except for the antler headband, that was fine.[break][break]
He probably would’ve fuckin’ died if he’d thought to add a fluffed reindeer tail to the back.[break][break]
“What about it?” he huffed, cheeks reddening against his will at the ~~pet name~~ nickname that had been annoyingly assigned to him. The choice had been funny at the time– Rudolph the red-haired reindeer. Now, he wanted to evaporate.[break][break]
“At least I’m wearing something. Real creative of you.” Em’s eyes flickered down, and back up to Sen’s face in what he hoped was a look of judgment. And not just blatant ogling of the other’s shirtlessness which had already been an image that stubbornly refused to be scrubbed from his mind. His arms folded, hip subconsciously popping with his attitude.[break][break]
“Don’t you have other people to inflict your presence on?”[break][break]
It was cheap bait, even if Em didn’t fully realize what he was doing. The inadvertent effort there to goad Sen into an argument, which meant that Sen’s attention was on him, and not somewhere else, as he’d questioned. His chin tipped up defiantly, and the loose, half-hearted braid he’d attempted earlier slid off of his shoulder.

He wouldn't bother pretending that Em was somehow pleased to see him. That wasn't the manner of their convoluted relationship, if that word could even be extended that far. They were generally messy, but at least they were never boring. As loathed as Em was to see him, Sen was pleased to say the least. His night would not be boring.

"Nothing, it's hot." He shrugged, admitting quickly. Sen wasn't the type to mince words unless there were simpler ones to get to the intended point. "A trash hermit like you... just wasn't expecting it is all." Dressing skimpy wasn't something he expected, but he was pleasantly surprised.

Sen smiled at that, "It's done the job and had the intended affect clearly." As long as Em continued to stare at him like that, it felt worth degrading himself a little. Not that he would feel even slightly degraded regardless of what he did or didn't wear that night.

"Wow okay, if that's the case then I'll go inflict myself on others. Since you're not interested at all, not in the least, not even a little?"

He nearly balked at the blunt response. His eyes went found, and if he hadn’t already been flushed, he certainly was now. “I know how to dress!” he squawked back at him, and because life hated him, the bell on his neck jingled merrily as he shifted forward.[break][break]
There was some truth to Sen’s claim, though. Emerson didn’t typically dress in such flaunting ways. He was more apt to be found in loose clothing that swallowed him up and hid him away. Normally this sort of attention made him uncomfortable, but when it came from Sen, it was provoked a confusing mingle of haughtiness and satisfaction.[break][break]
Em’s face scrunched up in a defiant pout, and he pointedly looked away when he was caught staring. Not that it was all that difficult to catch him in the act, blatant as he was being. “Yeah, I’m sure you like to think so,” he grumbled, arms folding tighter across his chest.[break][break]
And then the situation threatened to tilt out of his favor. The idea of Sen leaving his bubble was both appealing and unpleasant. Finding someone else to spend his time with was inevitable, but it made something ugly coil up in Emerson’s belly. Green-tinged, though he wouldn’t give Sen the satisfaction of admitting it.[break][break]
He stepped closer, almost toe to toe with the taller boy. His chin tilted up, bottom lip puffing as amber eyes narrowed at blue ones. He was not sloshed enough for this. To blame any decision on drunken indiscretion. What he wanted was to be unbothered, and apathetic. Let Sen wander off into the party like he’d just insisted.[break][break]
“Not even the tiniest bit.” But the firm retort wavered. A wobble in his voice that told on him, edging toward coyness rather than coldness.[break][break]
Stupidly, he wanted the attention. The heat of a stare on him, even as he attempted to rebuff Sen. How far would he go in a bid to pull Em’s favor? He had to wonder.
