fernando does not let up in the face of adversity. if the steelix will not crumble before him then he will make it succumb to the limits of its constitution. the command for them to tangle in melee range grants his gyarados both the time to steady itself and the ease of aiming a point blank attack.

the gyarados reels its head back and another forceful expulsion of water launches at high speed. the impact of the HYDRO PUMP carries enough force to shatter rocks. steel may prove more durable but the pokemon's ground type can only handle so much saturation. the question is whether the gyarados can take it out before it gets beaten instead.

the STONE EDGE hone in on the gyarados and its large frame proves too bulky to maneuver around the attack with such short notice. several of them hit the mark and by the way fernando's pokemon get pummeled, the steelix makes short work of its opponent. the pokemon persist only out of sheer spite, truly the rage incarnate. it fires another blast of HYDRO PUMP before falling to its injuries, recalled with the touch of a button.

"that's another one down from me, alfric."

[attr="class","spiral"] the rain sets the perfect condition for his next pokemon. the darmpness of the arena will allow the pokemon's attack to be boosted in either of its typing. fernando raises his next pokeball up and reveals his third choice: stunfisk. the flatfish is ejected from its pokeball and sits on the gym floor like a door mat, dwarfed by the much larger steelix. despite this, the fish seems unbothered, apathetic even.

"MUD SHOT."

fernando's stunfisk closes its beak repeatedly before firing off several projectiles of mud straight for the steelix. rather than aim at the face, the stunfisk opts for the pokemon's giant body instead, using its relative size against it by making it an easy target. the RAIN DANCE continues and the mud drips everywhere while in the air, dirtying the gym floor and setting up for its next move.

[attr="class","spiral"] the mud splatters everywhere and the stunfisk doesn't let up. the SCREECH rings true and the pokemon shudders inwardly in reponse, feeling a creeping chill overtake its body, but that won't stop it from following up with another MUD SHOT. the sloppier the better and the more the steelix resists the more slick it'll find the area around it. with an annoyed squabble, the stunfisk clicks its beak together before another projectile of vomited up earth comes out.

[attr="class","spiral"] the lapse in balance the steelix falters with is just the opportunity the stunfisk needs. the moment the pokemon refrains from attacking, the stunfisk CAMOUFLAGES, melding into the same brown coating of the mud and slowly disappearing in to the messy battlefield that fernando's created. with the cover of the environment, the stunfisk's objective becomes to aim the shot rather than try to change the terrain and with it comes more purposeful MUD SHOTS straigh at the steelix's over-sized head.

[attr="class","spiral"] Fernando eyes perk at the Toucannon — another Pokemon that he's never seen before. Curious, his primary concern is to scan it with his Pokedex while the Pokemon engage in battle. His Stunfisk, just as unaware, has no idea how to handle the bird until it unleashes a stream of BULLET SEEDS. Both trainer and Pokemon are caught off guard by the flying Pokemon's grass attack, catching the Stunfisk with several rounds as it struggles to slide against the slick stony surface of the battle field.

It doesn't take much for Fernando to put one and one together and just by appearances, he surmises that it's some type of flying type. "THUNDERBOLT," he commands, sounding off right before the electricity booms after him. A concentrated bolt of electricity trickles from the Pokemon's surface as it arcs toward the Toucannon.

[attr="class","spiral"] Fernando watches with a vested interest when Cait's Toucannon rests onto her shoulder. What kind of technique would require a trainer to partake as well? It isn't until the call for the move comes out does Fernando realize the situation he's in. The BEAK BLAST promises a terrible power and when it rips through the air to demolish his Pokemon, he can only narrow his eyes in muted surprise.

The conclusion of the attack leaves his Stunfisk unconscious, fainted belly-up with residual scorch marks left from the heat of the blast. With an impressed smile, Fernando returns his Pokemon and fetches for his next Pokeball. This time it's another small Pokemon, both a Hoenn native and one he's yet to use in battle. A dizzy Spinda lands on his side of the field and it stumbles in place, pacing in its own circle as it starts its own TEETER DANCE.
