mei's affections go over freya's head, miles away from the love language she's most intimate with. she's never cared much for flesh. no, she's always reached through that barrier of skin, past tendon and bone and grasped at the fires of the soul. and always, always has she been burned.

she has no qualms lifting her legs - albeit with a tight-lipped grimace as pain spurts from her hip - and draping them over mei's lap. the comfort of touch isn't so new to her, not anymore, but it's still strange to feel the rhythmic circles on her shin.

"i've already lost one family, mei. i don't intend to lose another." she will wait, forever if she has to.

the waiting is manageable, at the very least, by the pill bottle on the coffee table. she reaches for it and shakes one of the capsules into her hand, swallows it down dry. she grabs the remote while she's at it and then nestles back into her pillow, finally relaxing.

"he'll be upset, you know, you coming around here without telling him." she pauses her netflix skimming. "i'm correct in assuming he doesn't know?"

They folded into one another, Freya's battered bones cradled by a compassionate forbearance. Mei didn't much care what movie the other woman picked, but she did care about the bags under Freya's eyes and the way she felt too thin, too brittle. She needs water.[break][break]

"Let him get upset," Mei laughed, though the smile didn't quite reach her eyes. "I don't fear his anger. He's already angry at me for forcing him to talk about it, anyway."
