To be fair, there was no Safari Zone back home in Alola—this was always going to be his first thought coming to this place—however the lure of… so many Water-type Pokémon in this place was always going to be beautiful to him.

So, either way, once he’d paid up the admission fee, he received four Safari Balls in return—

Wait, wasn’t this a mistake? After several confused minutes of explanations, he was then let through to the interior, surprised that he was qualified enough to have four Safari Balls rather than three…

Anyway!

His main ‘target’ would take some time to look for, which was why he was here in the first place…

Unfortunately the very first one he would encounter would be—would be more than enough to set off all the alarm bells in the world, because…

“Oh, are you kidding me?!” he screamed to nobody in particular, looking up at the skies and shaking his fists because holy hell, what was that and why did it have to appear now?!

There was no way in hell he was going to touch this Pokémon with a ten-foot pole; especially after what happened during that fateful shopping trip recently…

He then turned tail and made in the opposite direction; hoping to find something else, anything but that!

Around the time he spotted the tree-topper Pokémon (what, it looked like a star, can you blame him?!) he was already strolling down the path accompanied by his Absol.

“Cordy, what is it?” he asked, before watching her white fur stand up on all end while the Staryu’s gem shined for a few moments before it fired off a burst of Psychic energy at the Absol… only to belatedly realize that it had made a mistake!

“Oh, that’s interesting. Get ‘em!” he continued as he jumped out of the way while his Absol then leaped forward, bringing down a Night Slash from her horn while the Staryu immediately switched gears and retaliated with a powerful burst of Briny water.

The two would continue to trade blows for a few minutes, before a final Night Slash knocked out the Staryu—and out came the first Safari Ball!

The next Pokémon that they would encounter was hanging off a tree, creaking quietly as the wind blew around it…

All it took was for the Absol to affix her stare at the Burmy before she shook her head and looked over at where Jack had finally managed to come out of the undergrowth, before he followed her gaze.

“Oh. But it’s… it’s too peaceful,” he breathed quietly.

Those were the words that the Absol needed to hear, turning tail and heading towards another part of the Safari Zone.

They were still pretty far from their target (Lapras), but somehow, they would get there.

They would then come across—

“Hey, what—” he stammered, before the powder-white Darumaka suddenly came screaming in with a Hammer Arm attack aimed at the Absol!

“Not nice!” he yelped as he barely got out of the way; while the Absol had all the wind knocked out of her due to the force of the attack.

She was not going to go down that easily, though!

Charging forward with a subtle Swords Dance boost, Cordy would meet the incoming Superpower attack from the white Darumaka head-on, before swinging her head horn as hard as she could in a retaliatory Night Slash, bouncing off the smaller Pokémon.

“Yeah, you… you go handle that!” he exclaimed as he got up, while the two continued to try and knock each other off their feet.

However, his Absol would emerge victorious with a surprise Sucker Punch before he flung the second Safari Ball at the white Darumaka.

Odd.

He thought he was going to be sliding on thin ice the way he was skidding along—and the culprit behind the slippery ground became all the more apparent…

“WHOA!” he yelped as he skidded along, before his Absol dug her claws in, and then quickly unleashed a Psycho Cut attack; neatly slicing up the incoming Ice Shards that the strange, rotund Pokémon had thrown their way.

“Thanks, Cordy,” he gasped as he finally found some purchase on the ice, before the strange one came barreling towards them; but not before a well-timed Night Slash put it in its place; causing it to Bounce upward.

“I am… getting out of strike and blast range! Cordy, you handle that!” he yelped as he dove aside and the Cetoddle came crashing down from the Bounce earlier.

Another Night Slash would knock it on its side; and he would immediately take aim with his third Safari Ball before the other Pokémon had a chance to recover…

He crossed his fingers and hoped he’d be able to catch this one.

Finally, fucking finally, his quest would come to an end as he—

“There you are,” he breathed out—and right then and there he heard his stomach rumble… shit, why was he hungry?

He was hungry for some milk and cookies the moment he approached the Lapras—with his Absol trailing behind him in silent wonder.

The wonder was suddenly cut short the moment the Lapras squinted at the Absol before suddenly opening fire with Ice Shards, multiple of them, and like—

“Oh, come on!” he exclaimed; as his Absol then charged forward with a Night Slash and dodging the attack as it came barreling towards them.

“Alright, do it!” he exclaimed as he dodged out of the way and the Lapras suddenly Body Slammed the Absol; before the two exchanged blows for a few minutes.

It was one final Psycho Cut that did the Lapras in, before he threw the last Safari Ball he had.
