pain tears across his skin as the fire scorches his skin. his screams echo across the walls of the cavern as jayden sinks to his feet, agony revealing the brutal milky whites of his eyes as he lands onto the floor.

from the deep void comes a sudden burst of ice that spreads too fast to avoid. the best he can do is to pull his coat over his face, turn to the side, and hope for the best.[break][break]

but as shards of ice slice through the fabric of his coat, drawing blood, he realizes he had underestimated the extent of jayden's powers, and overestimated their control over them.[break][break]

so a pokeball bursts open, and with the appearance of his milotic comes a shield of PROTECT.[break][break]

he whistles sharply, sending his typhlosion through the storm as it slams into jayden with a QUICK ATTACK.

jayden cannot see, cannot think, cannot feel.

[break][break] agony rips through him like an inferno and there is nothing except for the ground beneath his feet, granite crumbling under his palms as he grips the earth for support. he grits his teeth, trying not to think about - and failing - about the torture he endured in his childhood. in kanto.

[break][break] "there's something wrong with you, jayden."

[break][break] HATRED spikes in his heart.

[break][break] THEO BECKETT had wanted to kill him once before, why not now? he had said that he would be a liability to rocket if he did not get his avatarship under control. was this his way of ensuring rocket's success? was this just a feeble attempt at pretending to care for him, only to secure his loyalty, once more?

[break][break] the reminder of his darkrai mark burns him, even through the scalding pain, as ice spins around his body, shooting projectiles dangerously outwards to defend him from the hurt.

[break][break] suddenly, the typhlosion slams into him. cutting through the icy barrier and right into jayden's chest. his body is flown across the room like a ragdoll, hitting concrete. he inhales sharply. he blinks, blurry vision shifting from blistered white into violet once more. burns scald his body, but at least the ice has melted.

[break][break] "i'm sorry," he gasped, standing to his staggering feet. his mind whirled with feeling, struggling - and failing - to grasp for something. "again. do it again."

as his SYGNA SUIT clicks on, syncing with his milotic, they continue with INFERNAL PARADE and an eventual DRAGON TAIL that slams the admin into the ground before another burst of ice can form.[break][break]

[break][break] the HATEFUL ice that fights against the fire is otherworldly, cobalt crystal coalescing around his arm and forming a rock-hard barrier. it is like the never-melt ice in the silent icelands, a jagged line of blistered blue stalagmite gathered around his palm before shooting out in daggers towards the typhlosion.

jayden can't help the way he breathes in sharply at the reminder, hearing his mentor's disdain spoken outloud into the air, transforming thoughts into words.

[break][break] despite always being aware of it, the unspoken truth about their predicament weighed heavier as it was spoken aloud. uninvited, resentment began to stir within him — not at theo, but the circumstance. dmitri, who had placed him in this position, and in a lesser way, rocket for entangling all in this mess.
