Once again she finds herself pulled into the darkness, once again she stares down that hall of stone, once again she hears the voices of the Unown scratching at her ears and digging their way into her mind. But this time she would not face it alone.

This time she was accompanied by the "Visionary" Naomi Sato, one of the Head Scientists of Rocket and the current Avatar of the Unown. While she cared little for past events, even Xenon couldn't fully deny this woman's history and relevance towards what she sought, having published a public paper on Paradox Pokemon and of course being a very influential figure within Team Rocket.

The morning most likely started like any other for Ms. Sato, waking up, making breakfast, getting cleaned up. What was most definitely unexpected was Xenon tracking her down almost immediately upon leaving her home and dragging her to the RKS Research facilities, requests for explanations or reasoning or even how Xenon had found her so quickly brushed off with the same nonchalance as one might brush off a question about the weather or favored music. It was only halfway to the actual facility itself that Xenon even realized she hadn't introduced herself, her name given quickly before Xenon moved on to the next part of her ramblings on the RKS machine and why she needed Naomi.

Overall what this sudden intrusion into her life boiled down to was this: Xenon wanted to study how the Unown within the RKS system would react to the newly crowned champion of their species, testing the limits of the simulated universe and just how far they could be pushed before there was a crack in the system. And this was definitely the best starting point in that regard.

Nomi had not been back inside the RKS Machine since her altercation with Holo. It wasn't that she feared encountering the woman again - quite the opposite. It was simply that she had been too busy, primarily with the mysterious island that had popped up off the coast of Dewford. If anything, Nomi was extremely keen on finding the DRK Triad again - be it Holo or one of her colleagues. They were Hoenn's true enemy, after all.[break][break]
The eager young woman who had asked Nomi to take her into the RKS Machine was vaguely familiar. It wasn't until she finally introduced herself that Nomi remembered where she'd seen her before: she took part in the SPECTRA trinity trials. There wasn't time to look up her performance results prior to their RKS journey, but curiosity would certainly lead Nomi to investigate afterwards. She seemed enthusiastic and intelligent, though.[break][break]
All around them, the familiar sight of the Ruins of Alph loaded, pixels transforming into realistic rune-carved stone. Kallistatus hovered by Nomi's shoulder, a living Unown inside of a simulated haven for its kin. It seemed especially on guard, which made sense - it, too, was on the look-out for Holo, its former master.[break][break]
"Welcome to the Ruins of Alph," Nomi said pleasantly to Xenon. "This part of the simulation will attempt to entice us further into the cavern."[break][break]
A buzzing began to sound from Nomi's pocket: her phone speakers echoing the mysterious melody of the Unown. She was very familiar with that song now, having heard it, much more potently, in the Unown Dimension.[break][break]
"You wanted to see what would happen if I came here," Nomi recalled. "It's an interesting proposal for an experiment, one I have, admittedly, not had much time to test myself. What exactly did you have in mind?" She smiled. "I can attempt to warp the reality of this place, for example."

The SPECTRA trials were all but forgotten for the young(?) woman who pursued the future so vigorously, it had been fun to kill a god but ultimately nothing had come of it. It was just another past experience to be shaken off, a pointless dalliance that only served to exhibit her talents to those upper echelons who could not bare to dirty their hands by coming down from their ivory towers. A meaningless assessment that only further padded papers that would be shuffled around for years to come.

"I dislike ruins. History. The past is best left buried in favor of what comes next." Xenon remarks as she takes out her phone, a similar buzzing noise emanating from her speakers in unison with Naomi's. The song was foreign yet familiar, dissonant yet beautiful, a gross fusion of extremes that shouldn't be possible to create. The scientist appreciated it in its groundbreaking nature, it was very ultramodern to break established conventions without care for the laws of reality.

But their siren song was not what Xenon was here to study, her interest lied in Naomi herself. "I believe we should start with a simple test to establish the baseline of your power within this simulated universe. So... why not start by painting this drab corridor of rock and shadow into something a bit more ultramodern?" This was the place where Naomi had first established her connection to the Unown, even if this was not "proper reality" her powers should be available to her within this world. And if they were not, than that too is an worthwhile piece of data worth establishing in this experiment.

Nomi considered Xenon's distaste for history. Looking ahead with a creative eye was necessary in order to push the limits of current technologies, but it was also important to learn from past mistakes. Nomi couldn't help but think of GIDEON GRAVES, her favorite university professor. He would argue that ancient secrets could inform future survival, and she had come to see the wisdom in that sentiment.[break][break]
She did not argue with Xenon, however. The other woman's proposed experiment was a solid one, and Nomi nodded in agreement.[break][break]
Stepping forward, Nomi focused her attention on Kallistatus. Change the landscape, she commanded the shiny Unown-K. It glowed a vibrant blue, and all around the two women, the scenery began to warp and change. Like water falling into a serene pool, ripples began to form, spreading outwards along the pixelated reconstruction of the Ruins of Alph. In place of dreary stone, Nomi constructed a laboratory - similar in design to the ones on the Rocket submarine, that she spent many long days working within. Fluorescent lights, bright resin flooring, sleek work tables, glass beakers...it all formed around them, as real as the ruins had seemed.[break][break]
"It worked," she observed, beads of sweat forming along her forehead from the effort. "I - "[break][break]
But before she could finish her thought, the ground opened up beneath them, and Nomi toppled into the darkness.

Everyone falls through and lands in a decrepit underground hall. The walls feature engravings of what appear to be Unown. One wall spells out a message through the Symbol Pokemon's depicted bodies: the more there is, the less you see.[break][break]

The world shifts and bends under the psychic weight of dozens of Unown, reality reshaping under the watchful eyes of a thousand until these dusty ruins began to shift. Like a pebble dropped into the surface of a lake, it starts as naught but a minor wave. The floor ripples and shifts as Nomi focuses on the digital world around her, rock and stone shifting into the clean white tile and polished metal of a proper laboratory, darkness fading away as fluorescent light bulbs appear upon the ceiling and illuminate the cavern up to a certain distance. Xenon smiles and claps as she looks around curiously, but the moment she takes even a single step forwards the illusion collapses on itself.

The floor falls out from under them and Xenon yelps as she instinctively reaches for a Pokeball on her belt, but she hesitates as she observes the darkness they fall through more closely. There are eyes in the darkness following her, innumerable Unown watching their chosen Avatar curiously as they plunge through the digital sea, the building blocks of the universe staring into her soul. They land in a deeper level of the cavern, ruins untouched by man for centuries, mysteries begging to be uncovered as Unown squirm about the walls and form into sentences warning them. But Xenon has no eyes for the secrets of the past. Her hand shifts to an empty Pokeball and she unclips it from her belt, haphazardly tossing it into the swarm and hearing something click as the Pokeball is filled and drops to the ground. Looks like she'd get something out of this place after all.

Nomi stood, brushing herself off - even though, as always, there was no actual dirt or debris on her clothing. Every time she experienced this particular simulation, it astounded her how realistically it felt to fall through the ruins into what should be a pile of rock and rubble. The RKS Machine continued to awe her, no matter how many times she entered it.[break][break]
Around them, Nomi could see the reflected light of watchful eyes: the simulation's Unown. Sometimes, she knew, real Unown seemed to be drawn to this place. She could feel the unique tugging on her soul when an Unown was drawn to her. Kallistatus always knew, as well.[break][break]
The sound of a Pokeball clicked shut, drawing Nomi's attention back to her companion. It was too dark to see Xenon clearly, but Nomi had the sudden intuitive sense that the woman had managed to catch something down here. One of the living Unown? It would make sense, and Nomi didn't disapprove of the attempt. Another Unown allied with Rocket was for the best, after all.[break][break]
"The more there is, the less you see," she murmured, repeating the familiar mantra as if in prayer. "It's a warning. The same one every time."[break][break]
And each time, it felt relevant.[break][break]
Around the two women, the simulation began to ripple and pixellate, heralding a shift in scenery.

Thousands of headstones surround you, but there is one rock with a fissure running down its center. It is the only stone illuminated by the full moon above.[break][break]

It finally notices you. A SPIRITOMB emerges from the cracked stone, its malevolent smile set against a spectral swirl. Souls whip in and out of its shape...

"I'm more than alright. I feel like I just gleaned something very important just now..." Xenon mumbles as she walks through the swarm and picks up the filled Pokeball, clipping it to her belt and pondering on the ramifications of such a thing. So the Pokemon in here were real... at least real enough to be captured and recognized by the Pokeballs she carried. "Do you ever wonder what these worlds we're even traveling to are? We call it the Simulated Universe, but how do we determine what's simulated and what's real? How do we know we're not traveling to alternate realities that just happen to repeat?"

It's a question she doesn't expect to be answered as they move on to the next stage, something besides that god forsaken man for once, though the realm they enter this time might be a tad more foreboding than the burning city as they step into a graveyard. Countless tombs surround the pair as they walk through the dead of night, gravitating towards the only light presented as the moon shines bright on one monumental stone jutting out of the ground. It was cracked open like an egg, or perhaps a pried open coffin would be more apt as a ghostly purple mist seeps from the broken stone, malevolent green eyes peeling open and staring down at the girls.

"Let's test your powers some more. Can you think of a way to purify this unhallowed ground, lay the dead to rest as it were?" Xenon's eyes dart over to Nomi, curious as to just how creative this girl would be in the circumstances.

How do we determine what's simulated and what's real?[break][break]
Though Xenon moved away to get a better look at their new surroundings, Nomi's brow furrowed as she weighed the other woman's question. Even if Xenon had not been expecting an answer, Nomi wanted to give it the consideration it deserved. It was a good question, and one they should all be thinking about with a careful vigilance. Lulu Flint's work with dreams, the recent development with Tera energy, the paradox Pokemon, the RKS Machine...it was all related somehow. The heralds of a new age...[break][break]
"Oh?"[break][break]
Nomi looked up, pulled out of her reverie. They were standing in a familiar tomb, the thousands of headstones making the ground look like an uneven toothy maw. Xenon was watching her expectantly, asking if she would, once again, alter reality inside of the simulation.[break][break]
"I can certainly try," she answered, nodding.[break][break]
How to cleanse this place? She surveyed the details carefully, eyes focusing on the single beam of moonlight filtering in from a hole in the ceiling. That could work.[break][break]
Beckoning to Kallistatus, Nomi envisioned the moonlight filling the entire chamber, washing over each grave with a purifying brightness. In a flash, blue crystals appeared on the walls of the cavern, glowing and pulsing. A brilliant blue-white light, gentle and healing, filled the entire space.[break][break]
The light illuminated a spiritomb as it drifted towards them. It stopped in its tracks, and seemed to shimmer within the light. Nomi strained, doing her best to exorcise whatever evils lay dormant in the tomb.

Xenon never particularly liked expectations. When people expected something of her, it was usually because of something she had done before that they wanted to see done again. It always bothered her, being held up to some kind of standard based on the past, she didn't like those kinds of chains that bound people.

But there was another way of looking at expectations that the Ultramodernist found somewhat more bearable. To look at somewhat and hope that they could surpass themselves, to trust that someone could face what comes in the future and meet every obstacle without faltering. That kind of expectation wasn't so bad in her opinion.

What she asked of Naomi Sato just that, a trust in the newly crowned Avatar's ability to demonstrate her abilities. Here, in the seat of the Unown's power where her own strength should be at its greatest, in this simulated reality where the world can change at the drop of a hat, Xenon trusted that Naomi could meet this challenge in her own unique way.

And just as Xenon expected greater of Naomi, she was sure that Naomi expected greater of her as the pure moonlight lands upon the ancient stone and whips the spirits within into a frenzy.

Xenon scoffs at the ancient ghost as she releases her Malamar into the grove and crosses her arms. "The only five hundred years I care about is five hundred years into the future. Get back in the grave where you belong." A tentacle wreathed in darkness slashes the ghost in two as it reaches out to bind their destinies together, but this girl's fate isn't meant to be tied down in dark tombs and rotting graves. "Good job with the moon trick. Feel like you're getting the hang of that Avatarship?"

She remembered the first few days, how jarring and uncomfortable it had been - her vision constantly switching to her Unown unexpectedly or crystals manifesting out of nowhere if she lost control of her emotions. Now, she had a far greater understanding of her abilities, and what it meant to truly be a part of the Unown Collection. She had offered them a family, and it return, she had gained a profound link to the moment of creation, transforming her perspective on the definition of reality.[break][break]
Xenon's comment about the future piqued Nomi's interest.[break][break]
"I wonder what 500 years in the future will look like..." she contemplated, as Kallistatus blasted the Spiritomb with a HIDDEN POWER. Soon, the simulation began to ripple and fade once more, transferring them to another scenario.
