mary mews and points her head towards the delibird waddling through the snow. it's cute, julie had to admit, but not really something she'd be interesting in having. mary wiggles in her arms and she raises a brow, loosening her grip. "did you want to... take a picture with it?" the skitty meows and julie releases her to let her wander... only for the skitty to jump in response to the frigid landscape. back up in her trainer's arms she goes. "yeah, i thought so," julie comments in amusement, mary huffing in reply. they continue their meandering.[break][break]

the water glimmers, sparkling with the kisses of snow. it's the perfect atmosphere for something magical to happen, both trainer and pokemon watching for whatever breaks the water's surface. it begins rippling and julie unconsciously goes up on her tiptoes to get a better look, eyes wide with wonder but what awaits her is... "oh. a staryu." she didn't mean to sound so disappointed, and as if feeling pity for the lack of excitement, she sighs. "well... i'm sure if there were more than one, it would've been beautiful." a silver lining for a 'what if.' it's a shame she holds no interest for the mundane.

well, it was a pleasant walk. the thing is, well. julie doesn't get frightened easily, no matter how much she plays it up. most reactions when in the company of others tend to be exaggerated. after all, she's the very cute and very weak julie solette! but this. this yelp she lets out is very real. [break][break]

she doesn't hate any pokemon, but bug type do tend to give her the heeby jeebies. which is to say, when the burmy dropped in front of her as she passed by a tree, her skitty let out a squeak of anguish, both from how tightly julie squeezed her and how loud her yelp was. once they've jumped back a safe distance (back to the waters, it seemed), she shakes her head in apology. [break][break]

"i know, i'm sorry! i just. eeyuck." she shivers lightly, and mary lets out a sigh. er, yeah. guess that was a miss too.

oof. she was starting to get a little bored... and maybe regretting starting her trek through the cold? but then! but! then!! a little darumaka appeared! a regional variant too! don't get her wrong, she loves the darumaka from unova too, but the galarian one was just so... not dopey, but... well, basically it was cute and she wanted it and— oh, did it want to play too?[break][break]

"well, if you'd really like to." [break][break]

her skitty mews in response and hops out of her arms, wiggling her tail at the excitement of playing. the darumaka hops from one foot to the other and she watches them chase each other around, darumaka occasionally lobbing little snowballs at the skitty. a part of julie was hoping she'd be able to heat up from a battle, but well! this works out too. [break][break]

once they've had their fill, the two pokemon wander up to her, mary meowing happily. "... i suppose that's one way to go about it," julie says with amusement, squatting down and gently tapping the darumaka with a safari ball.

the cetoddle waddles about, quite literally toddling here and there in mild confusion. it looks... lost? julie frowns. she isn't entirely sure what to do (if its group is nearby, she didn't want to take it away from it) but... [break][break]

while she's lost in thought, her skitty pushes out of her arms, letting out an enthusiastic mew! as she looks up at her trainer then towards the cetoddle. julie tilts her head, but the second mary starts dashing forward, she sighs. right. of course her pokemon would want to check on it. she isn't entirely sure where her pokemon got the gentle curiosity to her (though, perhaps julie was well aware and didn't truly want to acknowledge it was from the vlogger displayed for the world). [break][break]

the duo trot up to her eventually and julie looks down at her pokemon a seriously? clear on her face. mary huffs an argument. let's take care of it! it got separated from its family! she can understand even without the constant meowing. cetoddle looks up at her with its big ol' eyes and... [break][break]

she sighs again. [break][break]

"just this once," she warns her skitty, though they both know it won't be the last. cetoddle perks up and mary hops with joy. [break][break]

the pokeball is tossed at the lost child.

with the way her skitty had been dragging her about, she forgot what she even bothered entering the safari zone for. the thing with julie is... well, she doesn't go out of her way to catch things. it's more so for the experience, and while she had been recording, it was this she was waiting for. all her previous attitude would be cut clean (snip, snip!), but the appearance of a lapras? oh, her heart can sing alongside the water-type. [break][break]

"it's nice to meet you," she greets, smile somewhat shy. the lapras tilts her head, as if to ask are you going to ask me to come with you? julie laughs at that, clearing her throat awkwardly. she knows how intelligent the species is, and it's solely because of that that she's careful with her words. [break][break]

"only if you want to," she clarifies, though quickly adds: "but i would like for you to come with me. if you would like to." the lapras smiles, and she knows what the pokemon is asking. [break][break]

what's in it for me?[break][break]

"well—" she is swiftly cut off by her skitty, the meowing insistent, lapras responding in turn. julie must look incredibly silly, the way she's standing there dumbstruck as the two pokemon converse. at one point the lapras even laughs at what mary says (which has julie raising an eyebrow because what in the world did her cat even say? she wants to know, though a part of her doesn't. considering she's a childhood pokemon... well, the amount of dirt she has was staggering). [break][break]

eventually, the lapras returns its attention onto the human, as if she was a mere bystander. it leans its head forward, and julie only stands there bewildered. her skitty meows matter-of-factly, as if asking what julie is waiting for. [break][break]

uh... what?[break][break]

her skitty meows again.[break][break]

confused, julie taps the pokeball on the lapras' head, vaguely wondering what mary had said to convince the pokemon to come along. of course, if she had a translator, she'd find out that all mary said was she had runaway from home and just wants to see the world in all its grandeur (the finding self was just an add-on, which lapras had thought was funny). unfortunately, there was no such thing and julie is hopelessly lost and confused.
