Abigail isn’t one to be a jack of all trades. Not someone who’s overly ambitious or has too many hobbies, but when she wants something— she’ll get it. That’s why she’s bound and determined to make strides on her newest ambition: Pokemon battle. And to do that she needs to train.[break][break]
Of course who better to help her out than family?[break][break]
She detaches a Pokebell off from her purse and summons the creature inside. It’s Fletchinder, who proudly flaps his wings— ready to start the mock battle. [break][break]
“No need to go easy on me. I know the basics of battling.” Wolfgang knew just how much she despised being treated as if she were glass.“We’ll start with a 1v1. Sounds good?”

"y'er the one needin' to go easy then," he tells abigail. "it's been a while since i've had action."

he takes a pokeball out from his waist and releases the pokemon inside. the typhlosion comes out stretching and about to yawn before a sharp bark from his trainer calls him out.

"oi! stay awake!"

wolfgang grumbles as he waits for his pokemon to slowly take up his position.

there had been a time where the typhlosion can almost be labeled as ferocious, but retirement from such life has turned it domestic. with the way hoenn is heading, wolfgang can't have it keep that lifestyle.

"he's always like this. you wouldn't know i used him for battles before."

There’s still a lot Abigail doesn’t know about her older brother. A mysterious figure in many ways but not in the cool way, in her eyes anyway. It’s difficult to impress her. One thing i for certain, she almost always fawns over the adorable Pokemon he has. This fire type was no different.[break][break]
“What? You have a Typhlosian? No fair, I want one.” [break][break]
She always had a soft spot for fire types. Fletchinder cleans at its wings waiting for the battle to start.[break][break]
“Tell you what, just because he made such an impression on me you have the first move.”[break][break]

"what's wrong with that?" he challenges back. "be happy your brother's boring, or else you might not have enough time with him."

that's how he was during his stay in johto.

keeping it chill and lowkey was a lifestyle had appreciated once he was out from rocket. being 'normal' was nice despite the peace being disrupted every once in a while on hoenn.

at the very least, the chaos provides a nice smokescreen for his background.

"you could get one of those new typhlosions in the market," he tells abby. "purple flames are your color, right?"

unlike the one he has, the hisui variants were much more useful.

"anyways, let's start with eruption."

a burst of flames akin to an active volcano shoots out from the typhlosion's back. it flies up and starts raining down embers as the pokemon performs the move with ease.

this was the standard during his stay in rocket. he supposed it should be normal on hoenn too if his sister called him boring.

“Oh because we just love to spend every waking moment with each other.” She sticks her tongue out. [break][break]
But deep down, she is happy he’s out of that horrendous lifestyle. She doesn’t admit out loud that she indeed wants a Typhlosion of her own, not wanting to copy every aspect of her older brother’s aesthetic. Less she be teased to death. [break][break]
She watches the embers rain from the sky as if in slow-motion. Cool and calm, she guides her Pokemon through it.[break][break]
“Fly through them using flame charge.”[break][break]
With the fire around its form acting as a barrier to the falling embers, Fletchinder spreads its wings and flies, using FLAME CHARGE and heading right for the Typhlosion left wide open.[break][break]

"smokescreen."

the flames on the typhlosion's back start to burn, creating enough dark smoke to cover the entire area. it leaves nothing visible in the eye, and worse was actual smoke that induces coughing.

he was used to it though, given that his time in azalea was filled with neighbors making charcoal and a smelter for apricorn balls.

"you always have the option to visit me at lilycove," he tells her amid the coughs. "isn't it nice that your brother finally moved to a place with actual modern buildings."

the fletchinder may have hit its mark as the typhlosion set things up under a black screen, but it would find the typhlosion hiding with the reduced visibility after it rebounded.

The stench of charcoal fills her nostrils and it reminds her of a completely different time. The polluted ghettos of Unova and the undesirable people who lurk around every corner. Every region has a place like that. Despite the unpleasant memories resurfacing Abigail keeps her face stoic, brows furrowing slightly as she coughs into her hand. [break][break]
“You can visit me too, you know. Just so it doesn’t look like I'm that same little girl chasing after her broody older brother.”[break][break]
Fletchinder clearly struggles in the smokescreen. Gale wings, however, seem to still be in effect. [break][break]
“Use Acrobatics.”[break][break]
It’s a reckless move and perfect for the enclosed area. He’ll hit his mark eventually. The cuts of strong gusts of wind slash the smoke in areas, quickly disbanding it. Better think fast, brother dear. [break][break]

the smokescreen wasn't so that her pokemon couldn't hit his. it was so that hers wouldn't be able to dodge his.

"rollout."

the fletchinder clearing it out invalidates the effort, but time wasted on doing it was time wasted not positioning to dodge an attack. the typhlosion rolls up to a ball and revs up before shooting itself towards the bird.

the bird could eventually hit the typhlosion, but doing so comes with consequences.

"what can i say? i'm a busy man," he teases with a shrug of his shoulders. "welcome to the corporate world."

he had deadlines to meet and papers to work on. the best days are often the ones where fieldwork was necessary, but that's often accompanied by the danger of hoenn's natural weirdness.
