they sit in their office, tip tapping away at their keyboards. compiling everything they learned within area zero had been easy with the amount of people submitting their data, but at the end of the day, office work was office work.

"AAARGH!!!"

the sudden outburst disturbs no one but the only other person who likes to work overtime.

it had only been him and james in their entire floor. while the other was openly a workaholic, wolfgang's extra hours was more of a product of keeping him company.

"this is all we do nowadays! have they found the boss yet?"

impatience brings out the hyperboles out of his expressions. he swivels out of his desk and into the open floors of the empty office as he waits for a response.

a hand grips james' face.

"don't even try. you're goin' to make it weird, i swear."

it loosens, draping down from his face until he retracts it back to his side.

his heart beats faster as the thought of it settles. the current situation differs from what he is used to, but there was no other way he could see their relationship ending the moment they got too comfortable with each other.

perhaps wolfgang still doubts himself that they can make it work, but he ignores it for now.

"yeah, go do that. i like the food you cook."

he doesn't lift his head up when he answers.

"that's what follows when two people tell each other that they like them."

wolfgang drags himself up afterwards, staring at james underneath him as soon as words leave his mouth. he grows red, but he hides it underneath a stern exterior.

"you don't look cute when you try to act big," he tells him before pinching his cheek. "but you looked cool for a moment there. i'll take it."

he softens up and smiles.

"want to get up for real this time?"

wolfgang immediately scrambles from the bed and goes to hug james. he likes the feeling of his warmth, slamming him back to his bed under his weight.

"good."

he hasn't been able to do it for the longest time, and there's something nice about holding someone in your arms that isn't replicated by simply sleeping with them.

wolfgang relishes in the moment, talking with his face on the bed.

"don't take it back," he tells him. "you're the only one i want to try this with."

he growls and flips him over once more, grabbing the pillow underneath him and throwing it at his face with force.

"about last night, idiot!"

or maybe he shouldn't call him that.

now that his head has cleared, events got him flustered more than ever. aggression was a smokescreen that effectively hides the awkwardness of the butterflies in his stomach.

"it means i like you."

"what the fuck happens now?!" he asks, suddenly panicked. "do you actually mean that?!"

wolfgang needs confirmation. he never had a serious relationship, and the closest thing he has experienced are hookups. he can't consider james a hookup.

they find themselves together in his room once sun was up, bundled up and in each other's embrace. lost in a trance throughout the night, reflection only comes up once they stir awake.

wolfgang is the first to wake up. he sits at the corner of the bed, rubbing his eyes as he tries to make sense of last night. a sense of regret lingers, but not for reasons that concern him.

"oi, baker boy." he nudges james beside him. "wake up."

he looks at him the same way as any other day. despite the confession, he doesn't feel weak. he surmises it's always how he felt.

"we gotta talk."

his brows furrow, but the smile remains.

"then here's your invitation. i don't mind if it's you."

wolfgang finally lets himself get lost in the moment, succumbing to his thirst. he throws himself onto james, caressing his skin with his lips in a surprisingly gentle manner unbefitting his demeanor.

this wasn't on his agenda for the night, but it wasn't off the table either.

he enters the room with his permission, going straight to his bed to drop him there.

wolfgang pins james down, arms settled on his either side, framing his face for his fellow aeos scientist to stare at.

"do i look like i'm the type to snoop?" he asks.

his face dips to return the kiss that has been interrupted earlier, pulling out just to take his shirt off and continue his statement from before his urges took over.

"have you taken a peek on mine?" he asks in jest.

the normalcy of the interaction is welcomed, but acts in the moment after all distractions have been set aside.

he shares a look with him before surprising him by picking him up. wolfgang raises him from his legs, carrying james to the corridor that leads to their rooms.

"i haven't been to your room before," he tells him. "want to get more familiar with each other there?"

he grins, excited. red flushes through his face as he feels the beating in his chest hasten. anxiety comes with the development between two roommates, but he leaves complications of his own feelings to the wolfgang of tomorrow.

he snorts at his answer.

"cute."

from the other side of the table, he grabs james from his chin. he plants a kiss on james's lips, but in the midst of the moment, drags himself across too fast.

the clinging of their bowls atop the table reminds them of where they are. the moment is ruined, and all he can think about is how messy will it be if they continue.

"we should put these away first, huh."

the same pink colors his cheeks, but he never lets go of the smug look on his expression. a sense of victory is felt, enough to make his heart race for the first time in in a very, very long time.

he stands up and leans over the table, face close to james. he pushes the bowl aside, forgetting the note to himself to wash it for the both of them.

"isn't it nice that i feel the same?"

he had always put a damper on it, not wanting to ruin one of the few relationships he has fostered since getting to become his own self, but james has ruined it all. he has put him in a position where it was the only right choice.

"are you sure you want to say that in front of me?" he teases further. "i'll kill you if you suddenly tell me that you're just kidding."

it doesn't take him long to finish his meal. it was more of the better tasting food he has had for a while, especially after days of takeout and fast food.

"i'm that special, then."

he says it like a statement rather than a question.

wolfgang leans back from his chair, watching james finish his bowl. eyes glare at him, his lips moving to a smirk as he proceeds to tease the chef.

"then what does it mean, baker boy?"
