"this is where we planted them, but..."

the place was just cold before. that had been tolerable, but he wasn't sure how much the sudden influx of snow would damage their part of the land that one of kyle's neighbors on verdanturf let them use for their garden project.

cian had always been keen on flowers before, most notably crystalblooms, but they had to switch it out to more common plants since they're more difficult to find now.

"did you see it yet?"

kyle looks around, but everything was covered with white and crystals. it messes up his perspective when the surrounding environment was different.

try as he may, he can't seem to find the flowers they planted all those weeks ago when the weather wasn't this bad. he sifts through mounds of snow, pushing them away with his gloved hands that still feel the cold.[break][break]

his torracat isn't doing much to help. it lays plop on the ground beside him instead, watching like a supervisor.[break][break]

maybe they're not dead yet, he thought.

"maybe if we use the powers of tera crystals, our imagination of our flowers will bring them back to life."

thought it wasn't like they had proof that they're dead. as long as the body isn't found, there is no validity in the claim that their beloved children of the earth are no more for this world.

"well, i could also try bringing them back to life if we do find them," he points out. "i wonder if it works with flowers too."

he mirrors the sadness in kyle's voice, not needing to pretend because he's also genuinely sad at the loss of their flowers.[break][break]

dropping to the ground, he starts pawing away at the snow, shoveling as fast as he can to get to the ground. his torracat does the same except much slower.

kyle tries to join cian and his cat, but his hands quickly grow cold even with gloves on. he's tempted to cut himself and let the power of ho-oh run loose, but he still doesn't have complete control over that to be confident about it.

"aren't your hands getting cold?" he'd ask instead.

he looks at the tera crystals, and then cian's pokemon. an idea comes to mind.

"have you ever touched the fire on the crown when a pokemon terastalizes to fire-type?" he asks cian. kyle certainly hasn't yet depsite utilizing the mechanic multiple times.

"do you think it's warm enough to melt the snow, but not enough to, like, incinerate them?"

cause that was the reason why they weren't letting the litten use its fire-type moves.

that's a lie. his hands have been freezing since his second paw at the snow, but he's too proud to admit otherwise. which is why he's so glad to hear kyle's suggestion.[break][break]

standing up, he reaches into his pocket for his TERA ORB, taking a while to pull it out because he can't really feel his fingers.[break][break]

eventually, his torracat FIRE TERAS, and as predicted, the heat it radiates is warm enough to start melting the snow.[break][break]

was he really that smart or does he just have common sense?

"that's how i got the position, i guess."

maybe that was what sets him apart from the rest of hoenn's best. while they may have the actual academic knowledge, the social standing, the silver tongue, and other advantages in life, he got the best gift of them all: common sense.

it's a shame it doesn't work anymore when it comes to hoenn's natural disasters.

"at least we can save the blooms now. come on, let's dig it up."

with the source of warmth nearby, kyle doesn't shy away from going all out with digging anymore.
