the sudden growth of tera crystals in the vicinity had caused the ground to turn unstable. the earth has fallen on some places, revealing packets of tunnels underground.

"you said you're down to explore with me, right?" he asks one last time.

it shouldn't matter though, since the fact that cian was already here meant it was too late to back down. kyle supposed the words only left his mouth for the sake of being cliche.

the ground slopes down to a tunnel, lit up by tera crystals. it could be one of those terastral tunnels that popped up all of a sudden, but an investigation from actual authorities such as them was needed to make sure of the label.

"mister michael, i think," he answers. "he's the one furthest in his challenge, if i remember correctly."

he makes his guess based on records he has access to, which wasn't fair and goes against the spirit of the game.

"why did you ask?" he pries. "are you going to rush yours and beat him?"

the tunnel goes deeper until the light behind them was replaced by the natural illumination brought by the crystals from the ground. kyle starts to wonder if there will be interdream mist welcoming them soon.

"i don't think i'm the person to trust when it comes to 'rushing'."

kyle is a person that takes his time. despite it, given certain conditions and specific situations, he will be inclined to rush content. work, however, wasn't one of those.

his shoulder slumps, given the increased weight on top of them.

"i'm sure you can finish it on your own pace. i'm not even sure what i can do to help you rush it."

probably to rig appointments and schedules, which he probably has the capability to do.

he grumbles, but in a way that plays with the bit they were doing rather than genuine complaining.

just as the conversation is about to die, the tunnel they are traveling to starts to widen, only to be met with a wall. it seemed like solid rock at first, but a close look shows that it's a result of a cave in.

"looks like we're at the 'end of the tunnel', am i right?"

he doesn't laugh, but he makes the joke, likening it to cian's journey to attaining the champion rank while simultaneously being literally at the end of a tunnel.

kyle knocks on it.

"do you think it's safe to blow it up? it looks like there's something behind this."

he looks at his clothes. he's not sure if he's ready to get them dirty.

"better than getting caved in, i suppose."

he looks at the pokemon he brought, trying to pick one that would fit the situation. his hand finds a lycanroc, who he instructs to drill run its way to the other side.

it barks once it reaches the opening from the other side. kyle gets down the hole and climbs out to see the spacious interior within.

"huh. who would've guessed?"

a dug up room welcomes them, involving fossils and other mining tools. it looked like an abandoned secret base from the looks of it, and with the tera crystals around, it wasn't unlikely that the reason why it was ditched was the dangers of the terastral phenomenon.
