he feels familiar somehow. he's bad at names and with faces, he can only recognize them after talking with them a lot. kyle was certain that he hasn't talked with this person before, and yet familiarity strikes.

perhaps another case of deja vu from the galar dream?

his poochyena barks, sharing the same expectations kyle has with a friendly fight through the syncing of his sygna suit.

“You can call me Jack. Everyone does,” he greeted back; although there was also that feeling of déjà vu hanging around the other man—why did he look familiar, too?!

Unlike most who may have forgotten about the time they spent in the alternate ‘pocket’ universe of a backwards Galar, Jack could unfortunately recall most everything—even so. It was the curse of being a lorekeeper, sometimes.

You had to remember every single damned thing—and that alternative Galar experience was definitely one he wouldn’t easily forget!

Him and his Absol eyed the Poochyena across them; however he knew better than to underestimate another Pokémon, especially if it was a smaller one.

“Good luck.”

And maybe, just maybe, he’d pull through somehow?

even if the flow of the conversation crashes on him to take the awkward first move of a fight, kyle's poochyena has a useful tool to force it to the other person.

a series of provoking barks taunt the absol into attacking first.

"good luck to you too."

he fixes his collar, activating his sygna suit in the process. the poochyena's plan feels like kyle's in that moment as the sync between the two gets better.

Oh, this was going to be another problem—the belated realization that the Poochyena was also a Dark-type so this was going to be, indeedy, one hell of a climb if he wanted to pull out a win from… somewhere.

“Cordy, let’s go!” he cheered the Absol on as she got ready with her preferred starting move—a Swords Dance in preparation for the slugfest that was coming in the next few moments!

the poochyena realizes that taunt has no effect on this absol. the pokemon changes its approach.

it doesn't move still. instead, it makes a wish for the next turn.

yellow eyes stare at the absol as it dances for a show, careful for its next move as the sygna suit syncs both trainer and pokemon with the same feeling.

Never underestimate your opponent, they say.

Which was why the Absol never took her eyes off the little Poochyena. She knew better than to just rush in recklessly—however, if they stayed still too long the people might start wondering if they were just having a staredown contest!

So, she had to take the next step forward, before releasing a surprise Night Slash from the head-horn that she had.

Just to startle, to see what reaction she’ll get from the canine…

there won't be any progress if the poochyena doesn't do anything proactive. kyle doesn't let the pokemon know, however, and lets it attempt any of its moves as it wants.

when the absol closes in, the glint of his eye conjures a future sight that could help it dodge against incoming attacks. kyle would've set a delayed attack, but he wants to see what his poochyena has in store for the fight.

he's not sure if he'll have time to unleash the move's power, even if his wish manages to stall enough for it.

Despite the fact that both Pokémon on the field were Dark-types, he knew he had to do something otherwise they would be at a stalemate! Hoping to avoid the inevitable, the Dark-type then went in for an unassuming Sucker Punch attack; hopefully that would get a reaction from the canine Pokémon!

(Or that was just his wishful thinking at this point.)

surviving another exchange might give the poochyena a chance to strike back, but they're on borrowed time at this point.

"well, you just do your best, kilo."

there's no tactic to follow this time around. it's just hit without getting hit harder. the poochyena knows that one wrong move will be enough to take it down from the match.

it charges forward to play rough with its opponent.

There was little variance with what he had to work with—as the last move was something that would deal absolutely no effect to a fellow Dark-type, he realized that it was time to turn up the heat as they say.

Throwing the strange orb towards his Absol, a few moments later the funny balloons had appeared once more; before she took that as her cue to charge forward with a surprise Night Slash attack in her powered-up form, meeting the incoming Poochyena head-on without fear in her stare.

“Go Cordy, go!” he continued to cheer his Dark-type on from his side of the field.

the chance for the come back passes, and the beep on his vital gear awards him with enough vitals for a loss.

kyle looks at his pokemon. he would have teased him more, but he can only do it so much before he inevitably destroys the pokemon's mental during the fight. there were more matches in the tournament to go, after all.

"hey, that was fun." kyle picks up his defeated pokemon before moving out to heal. "good luck with the rest of your matches!"

This match was just as hard-fought as the one he had with , and the Absol’s last attack coming out of nowhere was the one that cinched his next victory in this current match—

“Hey, nice battle!” he called out while the poppers went off along with the commentators announcing his win, and flashing his face on the screen for everyone who was watching the match to see.

“You also have a pretty neat dog, you know,” he added before they were all swept off the arena and it was cleared out for the next match.
