This tournament was turning out to be a great meet n' greet spot.

"Hey! I'm John! Pleasure to meet'cha, mate!" He intoned cheerfully as he arrived at their designated battlefield with Scyther in tow, taking a moment to stretch mid step with a hefty grunt before coming to a stop before the taller youth. "That's Kama; don't mind her, she's gotten some new habits over the tournament's duration."

He must've been referring to the seeming yoga the scyther was engaging in.

"Just think of it as warming up." He said with a chuckle. "So. Ready?"

The trainer wasn't one for pleasantries. Especially not small talk. He'd play the part if he had to, but only because it fed into his own goals. Even if he wasn't willing to admit it, there were other benefits to meeting new people.

"She seems tame. This is Balmung."

A lazy finger from his right hand is used to introduce the charizard stationed in the arena. The introductions were finally over.

"Ready."

Exhausting a few flames from its throat, Balmung confirmed his readiness to his bug-like opponent.

Man of few words.

"Then let's begin." Doug said, swiping his arm through the air. "Mind the fire and get in there, Kama."

Raising her gaze to her opponent, the scyther hissed before launching forward into a mad dash. Its feet tore the soil out with each stomp, covering the distance between herself and the dragon in an instant before suddenly ducking to the side and attempting to strike at its thigh.

TL;DR:
Kama used Acrobatics.

The insect was far too fast to keep up with. If they wanted to win this fight, they needed to make their blows count. Not every move would succeed, but those that did would apply enough damage to guarantee a win.

"Take her out."

Instead of running, the charizard just stood there, appearing open and defenseless. He doesn't even budge. Once the bug-type was within range, that's when he decided to react.

Unlike other charizards in the tournament, Balmung was melee-focused. He excelled at close quarters combat. Getting within range was the worst mistake the scyther could make, especially when it's at a type-disadvantage.

Balmung quickly shuffled to the left as Kama's blade came down, but he did not dodge the attack entirely. The insect's sword left a gash, but it was minor. This was all according to the dragon's plan. If he moved too far, then he would put himself out of range. Balmung immediately retaliates with a fist covered in electricity before the bug-type has a chance to get away.

Caught off guard by the dragon's surprisingly swift response, the bug was launched back, her scythes coming down to stab themselves onto the soil as she flew away.

Grinding to a halt, her body briefly twitched and trembled as paralysis kicked in, making its grind its teeth.

Doug pursed his lips. That wasn't looking good... Kama already had a big type disadvantage here...

Best fix that quick then!

Without any shame, Doug immediately pulled out the Dynamax, retrieving Kama into her pokeball before making it increase to massive size— and releasing her back into the field, the unfortunate status now gone.

With a hiss that became a roar due to sheer size, Kama took a swipe downwards, her claws scrapping against soil.

Smart. The trainer knew exactly what to do. This was the best possible move he could make in his current condition. Even if Roy didn't say it outright, he commended the trainer's expertise through a smirk. The sudden shift in the battle's pace encouraged the trainer to follow-up with something similar.

"Show 'er what you got."

A clenched fist brought to his chest initiated a transformation sequence in Roy's partner pokemon, just as the scyther multiplied in size. What started as a pink glow, erupted into an infinity of colors that engulfed both the trainer's hand and his pokemon. Instantly, the dragon morphed into a hellish creature consumed by a cerulean blaze.

Without taking a moment to embrace his new physical form, the demon begins his next attack. Exploiting the insect's oversized exterior, the charizard avoids the devastating blow by resorting to airborne tactics. In the process of gliding through a slot between the two giant scythes, the hellfire beast coats his entire body in the blueish flame.

He whistled as the other trainer answered in kind, turning up the heat as he brought out the Mega evolution.

Doug preferred bugs, naturally, but as a born and raised kantonian, he could not deny the appeal of Charizard as it flew through the air, blasting against Kama with overpowering force.

Kama was nowhere near as enchanted, her large silhouette stumbling as she was blasted with draconic rage. With a furious yowl, she swung her arm to bat the dragon to the ground, the large appendage swinging at it.

Like before, the dragon acts like a rocket-powered aircraft as it outmaneuvers the titan's attack. He dips towards the surface of the arena and then immediately shifts towards another direction. Managing to maintain his momentum in the process, the mega-powered pokemon covers itself in the cerulean blaze as it sets up for the same attack as before.

Again, he launches from his place in the air like a meteor. A long tail of fire trails the dragon as it comes crashing down on his opponent.

Roy applies no command; he only watches. Balmung has taken the lead. In this form, speaking to each other is purely for show.

It seemed like the typing disadvantage would prove an unsurmountable obstacle for Kama.

Well, no reason to give up without a fight.

Spinning in place as she couldn't go anywhere any longer, Kama generated a torrential of winds around herself, throwing several walls of air flying about in an attempt to throw the Charizard's flight into turbulence.

Unfortunately for Balmung, he no longer had his Mega Evolution to rely on. Everything he had was used on that last attack, which left him in a state that's far less powerful. In spite of this, he wasn't ready to give up. Victory was in sight. Even if there was nothing left to give, he'd find a way to make it work.

"Finish it."

Before the dragon can react, a sudden storm devastates the arena. The vacuum seeks to remove his ability to fly, but the charizard avoids this technique by climbing to a higher altitude. Still, Balmung receives a bit of damage to his exterior during the process. With his body consumed by an inferno, the dragon comes down like another meteor. If this move connects, it would be the one to end it all.

Balmung used Flare Blitz.

As many before, the battle ended in their opponent's favor.

Doug crouched besides the shrinking Kama's figure, laying a hand upon her as her body finally assumed its true size. Her wounds began to disappear in an instant, knitting together until none where left.

He smiled.

"You did well." He said to her, before helping her up to her feet. He turned his gaze over to their opponents. "Thanks for the match— you were great. Best luck in the tourney!"

Both Balmung and his trainer were lucky to have the type-advantage. In any other scenario, they would've lost to the killer insect and its giant blades. However, Roy would never admit this. At least not blatantly. His ego was far too big for him to be so plain. This pride of his pokemon and its mastery of Mega Evolution would even shine through his posture.

"Well done."

That's all he could muster in reply. He meant this to both the trainer and his pokemon, but it appeared aimed towards the scyther instead. They were both worthy opponents.

Without recalling his charizard, the competitor returned to the city streets.
