"'ello, gym leader Logan!" He greeted cheerfully from his end of the battlefield, his Scyther glancing back at him before giving Lam an appraising look. "It's nice to finally meet'cha!"

Gym Leaders who would stick around were hard to come by— he had high hopes for Lam.

"Think of this as a little testing from a senior— uh, don't think about the age." He said, waving his hand in front of himself with a grin. "Let's have fun, eh?"

“Hey!” Lam had never met this guy before, but he wasn’t surprised to know he was a familiar face. And really, he knew he’d seen the other somewhere before. His mind scrolled back, trying to strike on the right memory.[break][break]
It wasn’t until he spoke up again that it clicked—the recollection of scanning over files of previous gym leaders pinned a name to a face. “Sullivan, right? Glad to meet ya too!”[break][break]
A light, amused laugh followed, and he waved his pidove out onto the court between them preemptively. “I look forward to it—truly!”[break][break]
It was always an interesting and valuable thing to learn from the people who had filled these positions before him, no matter the age. “I’m all for a good time.”[break][break]
It was the preferred lens for how he viewed battling, after all. As a community-building sport.

With gentlemanly words exchanged, they could get the battle well in hand, with Doug performing a dramatic arm swipe as he uttered his first order.

"Go, Kama! Show'em what'cha got!" He boomed cheerfully as his Scyther stepped forward, stretching her neck briefly before nodding at her opponent.

Once she got confirmation they were ready, she nodded again.

And then she lunged forward, launching in a speedy sprint towards the bird. She didn't really have any moves that would be effective against the flying type— brute force it is.

Blurring out of view as she suddenly leapt high in the air, her wings spread wide before folding against her carapace, dropping her down towards the pidove in a high speed dive.

TL;DR:
-Kama is using Acrobatics!

Lam nods approvingly at the appearance of the scyther. “Nice choice!” Though his gym didn’t specialize in a specific type, so much as it did a style, he still had his own particularity for flying-types. Even the non-birds.[break][break]

He made a mental note to work with his own scyther a bit more, based on what he observed in this match.[break][break]

The scyther is quick and strong, but somehow elegant in her movements as well. A well-coordinated display before she dives down toward the little pidove.[break][break]

“Oop! Watch out for those blades, Pops!” The bird chirps, attempting to tuck into a barrel roll to flutter out of the way. In the shadow of the larger pokemon, the pidove flickers from view, the SHADOW SNEAK allowing her to reappear behind her opponent to try and knock her off-kilter.

The bird pulled out an unexpected move, catching Kama off guard and knocking her off-kilter.

The bug attempted to recover swiftly, spinning on her heel while sweeping with her leg, attempting to strike at the tiny bird.

Pleased to have caught the scyther by surprise, the pidove hoots and continues to flutter around the swing of her scythe-like arms. [break][break]
She’s not watching for the other pokemon’s legs, though, so the knock catches the little bird and sends her tumbling. Not that she stays down for long—using the close range to turn up the heat.[break][break]
Her wings beat and she pushes out a blistering HEATWAVE at her opponent.

In and out, do your damage and get out of the way. Kama managed to stick to those basics well without getting tripped up for once, and it awarded her with a hit on her opponent and a clean evasion.

Now, she just needed to not let it get to her head and ruin her chances.

Accelerating away from the heat wave, the Scyther leapt in the air and spread her wings before swinging her scythes down onto the field below, sending walls of air hurtling to her opponent.

The scyther managed to sweep away from the swelter of Pops’ attack, leaving the little bird to zip after her doggedly. Perhaps not the best call, as the other pokemon doubled back to propel large gusts back at the pidove.[break][break]

It swept up her wings and sent Pops tumbling back through the air. But she wasn’t about to give up so easily. “Bring out the big guns, Pops!” Lam called up to her as the pidove rose higher into the air.[break][break]

Z-energy began to furiously gather around her before she plummeted headfirst toward the scyther like a meteoric mini missile.

The sudden Z-move always caught them off guard. Kama found herself hurtling back, battered as her opponent bashed into her like a missile, her body skipping along the arena like a stone over a lake.

But hey, if Logan was going to get involved, he may as well do it too!

"Show 'em what big really means, Kama!" He said, raising his pokeball towards her.

Nice pun there, brain.

Kama fell back unto the field just a tad bit bigger— though looking no less dizzy from her earlier experience, her feet stomping around as she stumbled for some balance.

“Yikes!” Pops pulls out of a successful barrage of her z-move, only for the scyther to swell up in size. Lam grimaces comedically, but the pair are not deterred.[break][break]

“Lucky for us, we’ve seen dynamaxing in action a couple times already!” Maybe that means they’ll be a bit more prepared for it this go-round.[break][break]

The pidove brings the heat again— another blast of HEATWAVE comes when the bird shoots up, to spew the rippling swelter at the scyther’s snout.

Kama's next slip up almost felt like a cosmic joke. Like a god of misfortune slapping at their knee and laughing at her for even trying.

Stumbling dizzily, the land-locked giant shook her head violently before angrily swiping her arm broadly across the arena, generating a powerful vacuum of winds around herself.

Shes pleased when she manages to send the scyther off-kilter— the heat lingering as she careens away. But her little wings struggle to keep up when the rapid spin of air threatens to suck her right back toward the slice of the bug’s sharp blades.[break][break]

“Ground yourself!” he calls up to the pidove, hands cupping his mouth. “Get heavy!” or as heavy as a pidove can.[break][break]

Pops tries the same trick that she attempted on a Genevieve Cromwell’s dynamaxed sandshrew earlier. As the wind pulls her, the bird throws her whole weight into a dive for the scyther’s massive forehead with the swing of her body like a DRAGON HAMMER.

The dragon hammer crashes against the wildly spinning Scyther— but perhaps due to it becoming a contest of strength between a small bird and a titan, it went into Kama's favor, her beyblade technique managing to repel her opponent.

Against all odds, Kama's desperation move actually had actually worked, bringing the scales of the battle a little closer to evenness.

But the question was, could she actually bring it home?

As she grind to a slow stop, the panting Kama couched low, before raising her arms high in the air and bringing them to generate a large shockwave. Go, go, go!

Yikes, they’d lost much of their lead thanks to the dynamaxing. Thus far, anyone who dynamaxed had wiped the floor with him.[break][break]

So even if he doesn’t pull out a win this time either, he at least held his own a little bit better! Silver linings, right?[break][break]

Poppy’s feathers begin to glow as she darts to and fro in a desperate attempt to flee the drawing pull of the giant scyther’s blades. Light radiates from her until, in a last ditch effort, she launches a SKY ATTACK against the other pokemon.
