Two words that carry much weight, spoken with the gravity they deserve. Before Kyle donned the champion’s mantle, Alexander wore it with honor. He died for Hoenn. Like Navy, he rose up to fight again after that death. There’s kinship there, two men that peered beyond the veil and lived to tell the tale.[break][break]
But there is more to it than that. Both his brother and Kyle speak well about him. Gabe called him the champion Hoenn deserved. Kyle fought with the man while he simply sat on the sidelines.[break][break]
“Glad you’re still around. Hoenn needs all the help it can get.”[break][break]
There’s dark days ahead. It was spoken of in prophecy. Yet Hoenn has its defenders. That’s what they’re here to show people. Soon enough, it’ll be showtime.[break][break]
“My brother thought the world of you. Probably bothered Kyle a hundred times to get your autograph.” A huffed smile accompanies the word, the sound of old memories tinting the mood brighter.

“I’ve been in a crisis or two in my year.” Which might be an understatement, were he not talking to the one they once called champion. He’s been through far more fires than most. “Don’t get how you guys do it again and again. Guess I’ll learn the hard way.” There’s quiet resignation in the smile now. he knows who Michael Navidson is referring to, expectedly, as his role as advisor has allowed him access to an abundance of information he often pulls from and uses. it amuses him that they happen to be a silph as well, mirroring his own conflicted relationship with a particular councilman.[break][break]

"i did."[break][break]

his answer is kept brief.[break][break]

"but i didn't rely on commissioner goode. i took matters into my own hands because those situations require a more delicate approach. one wrong move and suddenly you'd find yourself falling."[break][break]

which he suspects has already started to happen but he hopes he's wrong. Michael Navidson seems like a good man.[break][break]

"you wear your heart on your sleeves, navy, but for your own sake, i hope you learn to be a bit more deceptive."

“Didn’t believe Melody when she told me how political it could be, holding an Elite Four seat.” He smiles, despite himself. Alexander isn’t wrong, but his advice is hard to swallow. [break][break]
Unless he lies by omission, it is hard for him to deceive. That he never went down for the great crime of his life is a matter of luck, a sadly common story where an investigation slipped through the cracks. [break][break]
“Guess I could stand to learn how to lie better,” he admits, before nodding out front, where an eager crowd awaits, “but I don’t ever wanna lie to them” [break][break]
There’s more he wants to say, much more. Unfortunately, as with so many other things in life, they run out of time. The announcer goes into a practiced speech that will lead into both of them getting called out onto the field. They’ll wear their smiles, they’ll play their roles. Hoenn will go on living, and Navy will stay a bad liar.
