Beau fumbled with his key, frantically attempting to shove it into the doorknob. He could already feel the bag he'd hoisted under his other arm already starting to give, soaked through by the sudden downpour that appeared out of nowhere during the two-block jaunt from the corner shop to his apartment.

The dark sky above flashed with light, followed swiftly by a loud crack of thunder. With a mumbled curse, the key finally found purchase, and he stumbled through the door, kicking it shut behind him. Ugh, he was soaked.

A low rustling sound reached his ears, and before he could react, the bottom of the bag he'd been holding broke clean through, sending an array of fruits, vegetables, and other sundries bouncing and rolling on the floor. Not cool. Well, cool, because it was more eco-friendly than plastic bags, but still. Not -that- cool.

He crouched down to gather up an apple and a cluster of bananas, then felt his phone buzz in his pocket. Brow furrowed, still crouched, he carefully maneuvered the apple, holding it agaist his side with his forearm of the otherwise banana-occupied hand, digging for his phone.

Klaus??

He straightened quickly out of surprise, taking a step backward and promptly losing all traction on the puddle of water created by his rain-soaked entrance. He went sliding backward, landing flat on his back with an 'oof', produce flying from his grasp.

He took a moment to review the dull pain in his back and the one-word message on the small screen, then tapped out a quick reply and hit 'send'.

Beau made no move to get up from the floor, tilting his head at the phone quizzically as though it could provide him answers on its own. Unfortunately, as none seemed to be forthcoming, it was up to him to type out another message.

thats cool. ive never been outside hoenn. did u see prism tower?? my mom sent me a postcard with a pic of it once and it looks awesome.

He nodded in satisfaction as he pressed the send button, then blinked as a fallen apple rolled into his head accompanied by a wheezing cough. He lifted his gaze to see the sideways form of Chaos glaring balefully at him, and he snatched the apple away from the smaller pokemon with a huff, buffing it off hurriedly on his shirt.

"Come on, brah, that's not a toy, you know better!"

Having properly admonished his oldest friend, he realized that he hadn't actually answered Klaus' question and fired off an even less-legible reply one-handed, taking a bite out of the apple from his other. Hey, floor snacks.

Chaos snuffed angrily above him, and pit-pit-patted around Beau to nudge his phone angrily. Apparently he disagreed.

Beau rolled his eyes and added another message.

Beau finished the apple in another three bites as he waited for Klaus to respond, though not before breaking off a chunk of soft flesh that he tossed to Chaos. The Snubbull snapped the treat up eagerly with wheezy panting, turning in a quick circle before trotting off further into the apartment, apparently satisfied.

An insistent crick in Beau's neck alerted him to the fact that he was, in fact, still lying on the floor. With a groan, he hoisted himself slowly to his feet, brushing the water from the back of his shorts futilely before his phone buzzed.

The response was almost enough to dampen his spirits, and he started writing back reflexively.

Would but I already lost to the rain once today. Floor 1, Beau 0 lol

The follow-up message that arrives as he hits send is enough to buoy him right back up, however.

Collecting his fallen groceries from the floor was the work of a few short moments, and Beau busied himself unloading his purchases onto the counter while he most definitely did not wait with a slight flutter in his chest for Klaus's response to his breakfast invitation.

Some fruits and vegetables were to be expected, but today's haul also included flour, milk, eggs, and chocolate-peanut-butter protein bars - purchased the first time because they were protein bars and purchased all subsequent times because it turned out they were just plain tasty. The groceries went into storage with little fanfare, and then his pocket buzzed again.

A broad grin split his face, and he pumped his fist in the air with a "Hell yeah!", prompting an irritated huff from Chaos in the next room.

Blueberries, huh? He thought he'd just got some from the store earlier this week, but he'd better make sure. Beau crossed to his fridge, one foot almost sliding out from under him as he moved through the puddle by the door. "Yikes. Hey CHAOS! What'd you do with that mop, little brah?" He called into the living room. After a moment of shuffling, Chaos came trotting sullenly into the kitchen, nosing into a corner and causing a wooden mop to fall over and smack the opposite counter from the collection of cleaning implements stacked haphazardly there.

"Oh, sweet," Beau commented, lifting his eyebrows as the mop presented itself. Chaos turned a satisfied circle before curling up in the middle of the floor, and Beau negotiated around him carefully as he began to clean the water from in front of the door. As Chaos begin to snore, Beau's thoughts wandered - he wondered what kind of movie Klaus would bring, because he didn't really know the other man's film preferences. Not that Beau was much of a screen buff himself, but...

A loud crack of thunder caused the lights in the apartment to flicker, and suddenly the entire space was plunged into darkness. Through the pitch-black of the kitchen, Beau could hear the rain pouring outside and the Snubbull's uninterrupted snoring from his spot on the kitchen floor.

Despite the circumstances, he couldn't help but smile in the dark. He had a breakfast to look forward to.
