He grinned wide at his friend, rising from where he had been sitting with his Scyther to spread his arms wide.

"And I've heard nothing 'bout'cha at all, Matty!" He declared cheerfully. The trash talk was intentional. "Was beginning to think you were skipping this year, Mr. Elite!"

Two tourneys in a row as 4th place sounded rough.

"Don't worry 'bout me; we're taking it easy this year." he said, reaching besides himself to pet his aged Scyther.

Unlike him however, the Scyther did not look at all at ease, narrowing her eyes at Matias dangerously, all but speaking to him.

'Run your hands. RUN 'EM UP.'

There was a strong dichotomy between trainer and pokemon going on here...

"So! How's the tourney been for ya? There's a lot of new cool kids running around now. It's been fun getting to experience the new talents!"

"I'm leaving the crown for the newbies to pick up." Doug said with an unnecessary flourish, sweeping his ponytail off his shoulder sassily. "But don't worry, I'll make it entertaining for ya."

Kama turned her gaze up as their opponent lumbered closer— gigantamax wasn't new to her anymore, but it would've been a bold lie to claim it wasn't still intimidating to be forced to look so far up at one's opponent.

Worst yet– this one decided to start with a bang.


Kama leapt off to the side in a rush as lightning descended from the heavens, the electricity far too close for the rushed maneuver to prove fully effective.

With seared chitin on her left side, the bug-type clicked her tongue before reeling back her arm and punching forward, sending walls of cutting wind hurtling towards the towering cat before beginning to rush around the arena, keeping her eyes on the prize.

There was no humility to be found in this neck of the woods.

Speaking of humility, though— Kama found herself, indeed, swatted like a bug by the towering meowth, yelping as she flew through the air from the sheer force.

Her wings spread wide in response, a growl leaving her throat as she attempted to rush the Meowth's face instead, seemingly deciding that if she couldn't keep at bay, she would bring it too close to bear instead.

He stuck his tongue at the other man.

"Cause you're a try hard! Starting off already gigantamax'd, jeez." He chastised the other man, before suddenly raising his arm towards a bouncing Kama. "No sense of showmanship whatsoever."

The circuit had truly lost out greatly when he retired, left alone with all these folks who cared absolutely nothing for entertaining the masses watching.

"People are paying good money to watch, y'all!" He said as red light shout out of his pokeball, enveloping his Scyther.

"Make it worth their while!"

Kama expanded to out to match her opponent, releasing a deafening roar that made the seats around them quake before returning fire on her opponent with gargantuan walls of wind, the claps that thundered across the battlefield ringing louder than sonic booms.

"Not at all, mr. Elite." He said, sticking his tongue out at the man again. "Have you seen the price for your tickets, you bastard? The people here are paying a premium to see their vaunted Elite 4 fight, don't make it boring."

Doug had felt his stomach do flips and turns when he saw the price for tickets of his next match. Not all rounds were priced, but ones with big names like Matias? One could only be glad it was going to charity...

Kama tanks the thunder, her massive size making the blow a little more bearable. Her eyes glow with a red haze as she launches sharp blows in response, swinging at the Meowth's face with numerous jabs.

"Tch." And people called him naive. "Someone didn't check the Premium packages."

As if a for profit, publicly traded company would leave any money on the table while investors were breathing down their necks. The tournament held yearly all around the world. Such logistic nightmares were not undertaken unless money was being made hand over fist.

The shadow claw rakes against Kama's dynamaxed armor, her scythes raising to try and diminish the power behind the blow— before the other launches back a powerful jab, attempting to counter.

Kama responded by very pointedly jabbing her her pointed snout into the meowth's face, her scythes swinging up to push aside the the hand at her throat as rocks battered against her form.

Doug meanwhile fiddled with the tech he had only recently learned he was supposed to be using, cooing in surprise as the VR displays popped up, informing him things could've been going better for Kama.
