"Mr. Ivanov." Gwyar said with a smile as he arrived to his end of the battlefield, his Corviknight following a mere few moments later, landing besides him with the subtle clanking of steel armor. "It's good to see you looking well."

Hoenn's longest serving gym leader looked good, specially given everything going down in the region.

"Has the tournament treated you well?"

Honestly, the last time he’d met the man across from him, was in a very similar tournament; only instead of having the flashy gimmick that this one did, it was an all-out brawl; Pokémon to Pokémon in a display of technique and skill.

(Or was it during the time they’d been dragged into cyberspace? So much had happened, really!)

Spying the Corviknight the other had brought along, he couldn’t help but crack a smirk.

“Well, joining the tournament later than the most is probably going to kick my ass, but we’ll see how things pan out,” he cackled as his Braviary, who was already on the opposite side of the stage, was busy trying to pull out a few errant feathers that were stuck in a wing joint.

“So far though? It’s been very crazy!”

"I can imagine. Hoenn attracts new talent with frightening frequency." They could only hope the new folk would help the region, not antagonize it.

"Shall we begin?" He asked, before nodding at Lancelette.

The Corviknight hadn't faced another avian in the tournament so far, but if anything, it only made her more confident.

Not having to get close to the ground to attack gave them a lot more freedom to maneuver as she pleased.

With a flap of her wings, Lancelette took to the skies, rising rapidly before awaiting for her opponent to do the same. Soon as the match was called to start—

She dashed towards the Braviary, her wings glowing like steel.

TL;DR:
Lancelette used Steel Wing.

With that, both avians took off into the skies above the arena; which forced the drones to fly to keep up with them since the action wasn’t going to be on the ground—

The shining, glistening metallic wings of the Corviknight were the clue for the Braviary to suddenly conjure an avalanche of boulders in the form of a surprise Rock Slide!

The boulders struck her, for Lancelette stubbornly stuck to her flight path, flying through the rocks with a certainty that few other avians could afford.

Her steel armor dented and clanged against the projectiles, but held firm as she reached her opponent swept past, before quickly maneuvering around to face once again, a dark aura surging around her before dark shadows surged towards the Braviary.

TL;DR:
Lancelette used Power Trip.

Oh, boy.

Was this going to be another wash-out battle where he couldn’t do anything? Surely not…

Things weren’t exactly going too well today, all considered that the Braviary saw dark shadows coming from the Corviknight—he didn’t want those to touch him, either.

Even if this was going to be difficult, the Braviary would then caw loudly; fighting through the pain before approaching the Corviknight and attempting to drag them into the sky with a Sky Drop attack!

Gwyar was nothing if not pragmatic— the way he immediately raised his gauntlet in the air the moment the tides of battle took a clear turn to their side proved as much.

Z-energy filled the air as Lancelette was enveloped in a red haze, her body accelerating to blinding speeds as she began to barrel roll towards her opponent like a bullet, body glimmering like pure silver.

TL;DR:
Lancelette used the Z-move: Corkscrew Crash.

Today was absolutely not his day… what was going on?!

“Kyouya, what’s the matter? Snap out of it!” he would holler from his side of the field as every. single. attack of his Braviary hadn’t landed at all so far!

And now things were going to get even worse when—

The Braviary had a few seconds to react before he was flattened by the incoming attack from the Corviknight; squawking in a panic and causing an avalanche of boulders to come falling from the sky in a surprise Rock Slide attack—anything to stay in this battle!

Otherwise, was this going to be his first clean loss?!

Lancelette landed besides Gwyar, her breath labored, her armor dented and cracked, and her feet woobly— but she remained very much strong and conscious, preening her feathers and raising her head tall before her trainer.

Gwyar smiled, reaching over to pet her neck gently.

"You were flawless." He told her, making her smile brightly as the crowd grew louder around them.

Turning to her opponent, Gwyar marched across the field to give his salutations to Ivanov, nodding at the younger man.

"Thank you for the match, Mr. Ivanov." He said simply, smiling as he held out his hand to the man.

He could only watch as the Rock Slide had been obliterated by the force of the Z-move and—

The tiniest sigh escaped him as his Braviary landed belly-down, knocked out cold before he climbed to the stage.
