The tournament truly was a gold mine of talent!

"I'm John Sullivan— pleasure to meet'cha, mate!" He intoned cheerfully at the man across the field, doing a two fingered salute as his Scyther marched forth into the battlefield. "And that's Kama."

His scyther huffed, swinging her scythes through the air before lowering herself down into a ready stance.

Scrap!

"Let's make sparks fly for the crowd."

[attr="class","kazu2"]Kazuya stepped up to the starting line. His goggles were quickly slotted into place as the overhead display activated. His eyes swept across the man and his Pokemon. The Scyther earned a nod before the white-haired man faced John. “I’m Kazuya.” The speaker that gives him his voice buzzes as it loses signal. [break][break]

The bear snorts at the Scyther’s display. He flexes his muscles as he takes a few steps forward. Large, meaty fists slam together in a show of strength. An expectant glance is thrown his partner’s way. With a silent chuckle, Kazuya introduces him as well. “He’s Natsu.” As the other man speaks again, the mercenary smiles. [break][break]

“Let's make sparks for ourselves.” Sure, some part of him was still a glory hog. But he wanted to show that his time in prison hadn’t broken him. He was still worthy of standing beside the best, even if his team was gone. Now, he would see the fruits of his training.

Man of few words and a me first mindset.

He didn't dislike it at all.

"Let's, then!" Doug said, all in as he swept his arm through the air with a smile. "Kama, get in there!"

Kama needn't anymore. She had seen her opponent's response before and had already decided she was going 100% from the word go.

Launching forward, Kama rushed the massive bear fearlessly, lunging at him.

The mercenary prefers to allow his Pokemon to act on instinct. He was a supervisor. Interjection would only happen if he noticed his young friend flagging. We will get there.. As the bug launched forward, the larger man froze. It’s brief.[break][break]

Opponents who put themselves in hitting range were much easier to deal with.

Like a bulwark, the Bewear doesn’t move. His beady, near-sighted eyes just stare down the Scyther. Tiny, needle teeth peek just past his upper lip. A huff of air escapes as the Scyther draws closer. The second it’s within arm’s reach, the bear throws a mean right hook of an Ice Punch.

Whether it was overconfidence or the surprising speed of her opponent, Kama got herself knocked back by the other's mighty fist, the icy knuckles denting into her chitin plate and leaving a frosty surface over it.

Lesson learned.

Her scythes blurred as she leapt further back, sending cutting walls of wind towards the giant bear from a distance.

[attr="class","kazu2"]The hit earned an approving smile from Kazuya. A deep rumble in the older man’s chest serves as high praise. With a determined huff, the bear pulls his icy fist back. A shake of his hand sends shards of ice scattering. By the time they hit the ground, they’re already puddles. A fitting reminder of their subtropical climate.

But there’s no time to gloat! Kama bounces back pretty quickly. And, judging by her change in tactics, it seems a lesson has been learned. The scythes lift like an executioner’s blade, wind swirling around their tips. Golden eyes narrow as he spots the subtle beginning of a flying-type attack. “Move.” Slow and lumbering, the bear does his best to obey. Those weapons slice at dark fur, leaving angry marks behind as he manages to stumble half out of the way.

A few shambling steps bring the Bewear back within range. Or, at least as close as he can get without causing issues. With a bellow, the bear unleashes its Strength in the Scyther’s direction.

A lesson learned is swiftly unlearned after she lands a hit, her eyes narrowing as her opponent lumbers towards her.

That was the only ranged option in her arsenal, and the bear pretty much shrugged it off... Whatever, Kama was, if nothing else, all too willing to get back into a close fight.

As the Bewear unleashed its power, she surged forward whilst trying to duck under the blow, swinging at the same time.

Kama is using Counter!

[attr="class","kazu2"]Again, the pair meet in a clash of chitin and muscles. From his spot on the sidelines, Kazuya watches with a critical eye. Though his partner is strong, much of his movement is instinctual. The attacks lack finesse, relying on raw strength to get the job done. His swings rarely follow all the way through. This robs him of momentum. Then, there were his attempts at defense—only display as the blades drew close.

Natsu does not as much parry as just rely on his fur and muscles to deaden the blow.

Under the assault, the bear staggers backward. A hiss erupts as a gash opens on his left arm. Reeling in pain, that x-shaped guard cracks as one of its arms disappears. “Strike back!” Little ears perk upward as his taciturn trainer’s voice grows in volume. This is only possible by dialing up the little device at his side.

With his now gushing arm, Natsu tries to retaliate with an Ice Punch.

Kama was like a shark that smelt blood in the water.

The counter attack came, yet another power ice punch landing onto her arm as she raised it for a block, freezing her limb solid.

But she remained steadfast despite the freezing pain, her eyes gaining a crimson glow as an aura surged around her. Her scythes glowed crimson, overflowing with infinity energy as a storm began to rage around them— before she launched high into the sky, blurrying out of view before coming back down into the arena like a missile.
TL;DR:
Kama is using the Z-move: Supersonic Skystrike!

It was like watching the muscles of a Liepard ripple as it launched itself at a Zebstrika. “Good match.” The mercenary’s voice echoes beneath the howling winds. It is likely not heard. Even the highest setting on his digital voicebox is far below the volume of a shout. [break][break]

The Bewear isn’t quick enough to dodge the Z-Move. Both Natsu and his trainer are aware of this. Yet, they do not outwardly panic. “Endure!” The stocky ursine nods as the Scyther’s flight nears him. His body lit up with a gold shield as he lifted his arm to block the attack. He is driven to his knees, but the fighting type remains conscious. This does not stop his last heart from vanishing with a few half-hearted blinks.

The watchers erupt into applause as the match reaches its conclusion. A respectful nod is thrown the Scyther’s way. “Enjoy the rest of the tournament, Mister Sullivan.” Looping a hand beneath the winded Bewear’s arm—ignoring the ichor that now stains his shirt—Kazuya guides them off the battlefield.
