Maybe Homer Simpson had parenting all figured out after all.

Doug's jaw tensed at the question, the movement of his adam's apple foretelling the chewing out that was to come.

But it just died in his throat before ever coming out, his shoulders rising and his hands gesticulating as if he were rehearsing his words, stopping himself each time from saying a less than perfect version of his message.

In the end though, his shoulders sagged, his eyes rolled, and his arms fell to his sides as he clicked his tongue.

"No. Not unless you want them to." He grunted, crossing his arms over his chest, looking both tired and frustrated.

Unlike Eris, Doug hadn't seen the footprints before. And seeing them did little for miffed self.

Mysterious, unidentified pokemon and legendary pokemon were often one and the same in Hoenn.

A deep, unsettling sense of discomfort rose in the pit of the young medic's gut, his lip curling south. The longer he stared, the more gnawing the discomfort became. He could feel goosebumps rising along his skin...

Slowly, he reached into his bag for his a recorder.

"We shouldn't stick around here." He said suddenly, frowning. "This area registered abnormal levels of Dream activity."

Was he?

It felt like a taunt to his irritable, now offput self, but he wasn't that immature.

His temper couldn't override what he knew about Eris.

"... Not sure." He said after a moment, his hand moving to hover over his chest. Even before his palm laid, he could hear his heart thrumming in his ear, as if he had ran a marathon just a moment prior.

And getting louder and louder... he released a shuddery breath.

"I... You... Y-ya might be right." He finally muttered, brow furrowing deeply, before he suddenly held out his hand to Eris. "For real— let's get the hell outta here."

The cavern's walls felt a little too claustrophobic now.

"I'm fine." He mutters, lip curling as an unfamiliar, near nothing weight settles on his shoulder and tiny paws bap at his cheek, brushing away at his volatile emotions.

There is an old irritation in being treated like a child, but it's too silly to hold such a thing against Eris.

"I'm beginning to hate this place..." He mutters, squeezing Eris' hand gently while looking around the caverns wearily.

His pride was gonna be bruised after all this...

And unfortunately, it didn't seem like the way out would be an easy one either.

He saw it from the corner of his eye first. A wispy smog he had long grown familiar with. The familiar visage of Dream Mist.

He brought them to a stop, stepping closer to Eris as goosebumps spread over his skin.

A booming roar came thundering down the cavernous walls, sending loose formations to the ground as pebbles quaked.

"..." His hand slid over to his belt, eyes narrowing as numerous dark silhouettes slowly appeared within the mist, taking form...

"Probably." He says, brow furrowed deeply as his hand nonetheless reached under his arm for a net ball. "I'm in my work hours, though."

He had to deal with all of it before it had the chance to catch someone else by surprise. If there was one thing that hadn't changed about him even in Galar, it was a strong sense of duty.

Two pops came after, his Accelgor and Orbeetle were soon flanking him as the two net balls closed in his hand, the other squeezing Eris' own gently as he glanced back at her, considering.

He could try instructing her to run.

He would have to be pretty dumb to think it would work, but he could try.

Or.

He sighed, scratching at his mass of long hair before offering a tired grin at the girl.

"Could ya help me out?"

Eris was a strong, talented battler, and hey— at least she was within eyesight if she was helping him.

With Eris making Reiner take center stage, Doug decided the best support would be one that didn't get in the way of the Luxray's wide-spread attacks.

"Go, Sandy!" He shouted, a net ball flying through the air before a Wormmadam suddenly took the stage, flying through the air. "Have Reiner take a step back for a sec!"

The Sandy Wormmadam spun through the air before suddenly accelerating towards the ground as if gravity itself had suddenly increased a dozenfold, wedging herself into the soil beneath like the tip of a pickaxe.

It promptly cracked, ground upheaving about her to consume numerous of the paradox apparitions and throw others in disaray.

"Go for it!"

Yet another reason to heal her eye.

"I'm hugging you!" He warned Eris, his arm reaching out to grab the girl by the scruff of her neck before yoinking off the floor, hoisting her in his arms as he performed the devil's tap dance to avoid enemy fire.

"You okay!?" He screamed over the salvo of shadow balls and acid sprays. "Is this fine?"

He didn't usually pick up Eris unless with her permission!

Seeing her trainer under fire, Sandy's eyes glowed red, her temper flaring as the cavernous walls around them all trembled, before sharp boulders began to upend and surge all about, attempting to pierce the paradox pokemon.
