It's another long night riddled with work, sleepless nights, and 48 hour energy drinks. And, worse of all, Rory was used to it. It'd become nearly ingrained into her weekly regime. Something even her calendar now accounted for.

And so, when the clock struck 12am, she already knew where to head off to: the kitchen.

Hair bundled up into a low, messy bun, the scientist's lips split into a yawn as she shuffled through the rocket's emptied corridors, turning the corner sharp enough to not notice the shadow already hanging around the countertop. It wasn't until her torso was already leaning forward, nearly smushed into the ground, that a leg came into view. A long, lanky, familiar leg.

Her reaction was immediate.

A sharp, shrillish shriek ripped out from her lips. It was so terribly powerful that it sent her body toppling backward, until her ass slammed into the tile floor.

[break][break] luckily, caden was quick on his feet. long legs strode forward and grabbed her wrist, pulling the girl to him with one hand and clasping a palm over her mouth to muffle her screams with another.

[break][break] "don't be so loud," he started, only to inhale that familiar whiff of lavender oil that brought him a familiar reminder of days long since hidden away. "... rory?"

The scene was something out of a novel.

In moments she went from stumbling idiot to adorably awkward heroine, all through the baptizing of his hard chest pressing into her back.

"Caden!"

Although muffled, his name came out in one sudden puff of surprise. She hadn't seen him in what, months? Which was forever given the dangerous times they were living in.

After another heartbeat of a second, the realization settled in, staining her cheeks a bright strawberry red. All it took was discovering whose muscular arm was stretched across her waist and Rory was dizzy all over. If he let go, she'll fall back toward the ground again, no question about it.

Shivers chased his voice, running down her spine with ease.

the feeling of her breath against his hand sent a shiver down his spine, one that made something hot slide through him in a way that he hadn't expected.

[break][break] "a snack?" he echoed, his voice catching the air like gravel. he blinked at her, not quite realizing how close they were, or how enraptured he was with her, even still.

[break][break] when she looked up at his eyes, they'd find them to be molten silver.

[break][break] hot enough for a leaf like her to melt in.

[break][break] it was only her voice that drew him away, and he blinked, finally pulling away from her grasp. he unfolded from her, putting an appropriate amount of distance between them both.

His voice is something out of a period piece. Low and secretive, with a ribbon of tease weaved through it. More than anything, it reminds her of Simon - her current fictional crush. Cold, isolated Duke of the North type character. The type of guy she wouldn't dare dream of, because like all fantasies, they're riddled with red flags, both left and right.
