The weather had been pretty awful the previous night and Knight had woken up a few times because of the wind and thunder. The next morning, he was asmused to see a small group of Mareep on the Slateport side of Route 110. He stood with his hands on his hips and considered how he'd herd these 'mons by himself. He counted six Mareep and shook his head.[break][break]
"What do you think?" Out of their balls were Fitzwilliam, his Farfetch'd and Gideon, his Karrablast. Fitz seemed ready to poke a Mareep or two with his oversized leek but Gideon was just as puzzled as Kay, "I don't have rope or anything... Should I use something as bait?" But he didn't have anything suitable with him.[break][break]
One of the Mareep tried to take a bite out of Fitz' leek and it made Knight snort, to see how his Farfetch'd dealt with it. A swift smack to the nose from his leek which earned a sad bleat from said Mareep, "Be nice, Fitzwilliam. They're lost and far from home. We have to help them!" He dug into his school bag, which was mostly filled with one (too large) book but he managed to tug free a rather crumpled straw hat.[break][break]
Knight stuck it on his head, "Alright... Let's just..." He shoved gently at the Mareep closest to him, which baa'd and then went back to eating a tuft of grass. What the heck! He wished Loot Guard was here. [break][break]
A Ranger would know what to do!

Having come to Slatesport for a bit of shopping after a ranger mission, he was on his way back home when the sound of a voice reached him. Trading a look with Mirage, he pulled on the Hisuian Zoroark's reins, guiding him in the direction he had heard the voice from. Soon enough, another teen, perhaps a bit older than himself, came into view, as well as around six Mareep.

Well, that wasn't good. Some Mareep must have escaped from a farmer, probably due to the door that had happened the night before.

"Do you know who these Mareep belong to?" he inquired, guiding Mirage to the older teen's side.

While he awaited the other's response, his gaze flickered over the Mareep before coming to rest on the Farfetch'd and the Karrablast, neither of which were really considered herding pokemon. Though it wasn't like he had any room to talk, since he didn't have a Yamper in his possession or some other Pokémon known for their herding capabilities.[break] Knight Naito

"Oh, hey -- Woah. Cool 'mon!" Knight took in the sight of the trainer using the Zoroark as a mount... At least, he thought that was what the Pokémon was. It seemed a bit different from the normal one. Kay didn't dwell on that for too long, however, as a Mareep attempted to eat the end of his t-shirt![break][break]
He managed to free himself and then shook his head, "Not sure but there's a farm not too far up this road. I figured I'd herd them that far at least and see if the they belong there?" Knight attempted another shove and the Mareep did move a few steps but then stopped to eat grass.[break][break]
That definitely let Kay know it had moved less due to his efforts and more because it wanted more grass. Awesome. "Do you have any idea how to get Mareep to move?" He asked the newcomer in the hopes he'd have more experience with this kind of thing.[break][break]
Who knew it was so hard to move Mareep!

If things were different, he would go into full lecture mode. After all, it was clear he had never seen the variation of Zoroark before. However, since things weren't different and they had some lost Mareep to contend with, he decided to leave the lesson for another time.

He scanned the Mareep before scanning the area around them. Good, nothing dangerous seemed to stand out. Seemed aside from finding a way to herd them, they wouldn't have to worry.

Seemed like their best chance. "Good, we'll start there then. And if these aren't the farmers' Mareep, it's possible he'll know who they belong to."

Always go into a situation with a contingency plan. Never assume your first decision is the right one.

At the question, he eyed the Mareep thoughtfully. "Perhaps we could offer them something better than grass food-wise and get them to follow us that way," he suggested.

Knight kept staring at the Pokémon in awe -- a Hiusian Zoroark! Woah! "How did you get him? Did you catch him somewhere?" He always liked to hear about people's Pokémon stories so hopefully this guy wouldn't mind talking about how he met this particular 'mon.[break][break]

"That might be a good idea... Hm..." He looked around and then gasped loudly. He sprinted over towards some trees and spotted something that would definitely help them out, "Hey, Fitz, use Brutal Swing and knock down some berries!" [break][break]

His Farfetch'd didn't seem too thrilled at being used to knock down some berries but he didn't outright disobey either. There was just a bit of huffing before he swung his long leek at the trees and Kay gathered the fallen berries in his arms.[break][break]

"Nice!" Knight went back to his new friend and offered him some, "I think they're interested!" He laughed as one of the Mareep wandered over to try and nibble at the berries Kay was holding. [break][break]

This might just work after all![break][break]

He took a few steps in the right direction and grinned as the Mareep, and a few others, started to follow with the promise of fresh berries to eat.
