Calling it "The Great Chasm" really didn't do it justice.

Seriously! Mitsuru had only been here for about an hour, and yet she'd already walked through a grassy plain, crossed a raging river, and traversed a cliffside path. Every few minutes, she'd stumble upon some strange new environment to explore. Even now, she found herself in a dense jungle, pushing through the foliage as she forged ahead. Every step made her feel like she had walked a hundred miles. Although she'd been cautious at first, she soon found herself completely absorbed by her surroundings. This place was amazing!

N-not that she was here to see the sights, mind. She was here on a mission, not a vacation! Still, she had to admit, this was a welcome change from the constant greys of Slateport. Being surrounded by such lush nature provided her brain some much-needed visual enrichment. Even now, she couldn't help but wonder what strange and wonderful new biome she'd stumble upon next!

So, eager to find out, she pushed ahead, stepping out of the jungle--

--And right over a sheer cliff.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"

poochyena's ears perk and twitch out of the blue. its gaze soon follows, moving to peer up the side of the cliff.[break][break]

then, he hears it; the growing 'aaaaaaaaAAAAAAA—' that threatens to splatter all over them should he not intervene. eyes widened, he takes a step back and calls out an order.[break][break]

"alter gravity!"[break][break]

the vague order is understood by magearna. MAGNETIC FLUX activates, altering the magnetic fields to disrupt gravity to slow Mitsuru Kagami down enough for him to catch her.[break][break]

they stumble to the ground, topped over by momentum and shifting weight.[break][break]

...She's not dead...?

After a moment of hesitation, Mitsuru slowly peeled open her eyes and confirmed that yes, she was not dead. Somehow, despite plummeting a hundred feet, she hadn't been spread across the ground like jam on toast. Instead, she had landed right on top of this surprisingly soft stranger. It was a minor miracle, but she'd managed to escape her brush with death, coming out the other side with only a few small bruises and one big fright.

As soon as she realised this, the first thing that she did was hug the man beneath her as tightly as she could.

"THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!!!!!"

Then, after about a minute, her racing heartbeat began to slow and the rush of adrenaline began to fade. With the fear of immediate death now firmly behind her, her own self-awareness was allowed to creep back to the forefront of her mind. And as soon as it did? Her face went beet red as she broke the hug, quickly stood up, took a few steps back, and bowed.

"S-sorry, I, I, um, um, um... Ahem. What I meant to say was, thank you very much for saving me."

the display of gratitude is appreciated even if the physical aspect of it isn't. he understands where they're coming from, however, as he'd likely do the same to whoever saved him from dying again.[break][break]

by the time he decides to return the hug, she's already pushing away and standing back up to her feet. he follows, chuckling as he does so.[break][break]

"oh, don't mention it. i'm just glad to have caught you."[break][break]

he shrugs a shoulder, feeling the strain of the impact earlier, and glances up the side of the cliff.[break][break]

It's a good thing Mitsuru was already embarrassed, because it helped to disguise her face turning from beet red to deep crimson.

"How did I fall?" She repeated. The mere asking of the question was enough to make her freeze up like a Deerling in the headlights. Holy heck, this was MORTIFYING. She couldn't answer that! No way! What was she supposed to say, huh? "Oh yeah, I wasn't paying attention and walked right off a cliff like an stupid idiot, hehe, oopsie~"? No, no, if she told him the truth, he'd think she was completely hopeless! But then, what else could she do? Lie to him? After he saved her life? No, no, she just couldn't do that, either. But if she couldn't tell the truth, and she couldn't lie, then what was she supposed to tell him? "Oh, well, that's... That's a funny story, actually! You see, I was walking up on that cliff above, minding my own business, when suddenly--"

CLANG!

--A gigantic hunk of metal suddenly fell from the sky, cratering into the ground a few metres behind her. Mitsuru let out a panicked yelp as she dove forth, scrambling away from the unidentified falling object and to relative safety. And of course, by "relative safety", she meant "behind the kindly stranger with the strong-looking Pokemon".

"W-w-what the HECK was that?!"

"this feels like something out of a sitcom," he mutters, commenting mostly to himself as he steps forward, assuming his role of protector even if he'd rather not.[break][break]

without waiting for her confirmation, he approaches it.[break][break]

...Does this feel like a sitcom? Mitsuru's watched more than a few, and nothing like this ever happened in Friends or Full House. Then again, she did recall something similar happening in 2 Broke Girl$...

"Wait, REALLY?"

He's actually approaching it? Even after it fell out of the sky and everything? Nope. No. Nuh-uh. He's GOT to be crazy if he thinks she's getting near that thing! All of a sudden, being behind him doesn't feel so safe anymore, so instead, she watched his approach from the next safest place she could find - Behind a nearby rock. Which, if she knew this guy's name, would've made for a great pun! Alas, she didn't.

As Alexander examined the metal debris, he'd quickly find it wasn't debris at all, but instead, a Paradox Pokemon. The banged-up husk of an Iron Hands didn't answer. Instead, it lay dormant in the hole of its own making, covered in dents and punctures from the force of its impact.

Had it also fallen down from the cliffs up above?

the state of the IRON HANDS fills him with nothing but pity. his expression falls as he lowers to the ground, kneeling beside it as he carefully examines it.[break][break]

Salvageable?

Mitsuru blinked. Seriously? Was he actually going to try and repair this thing? She blinked again. Then again. Then, one more time, just for good measure. Like, seriously seriously? Yet no matter how many times she blinked and no matter how hard she questioned, it seemed that the stranger was, in fact, seriously serious.

Nope. No. Nuh-uh. She could tell where this was going! He'd repair that Iron Hands, and then it would wake up and go berserk and probably end up punching her so hard she went flying off ANOTHER cliff. She had to put a stop to this! Preferably, from the safety of behind this rock.

"C'mon, don't be silly!" Mitsuru forced her to laugh, as though the entire thing was just a bad joke. "How would you even fix it in the first place? What, do you think a bunch of spare parts are going to just fall out of the sk--"

Then, as though Arceus themself has thrown it, a wreck of an Iron Moth fell from the sky and hit Mitsuru in the head with a THUNK.

"GUH...!"

And just like that, she hit the ground, unconscious. Today just REALLY wasn't her day, was it?
